Carmen's Crew falls to Fail Harder in The Basketball Tournament third round
Carmen's Crew's attempt to repeat as The Basketball Tournament (TBT) champions came to a halt in the third round Tuesday night, as they fell to Fail Harder 68-62.
Missing the injured William Buford, this was likely the worst game an Ohio State-derived team (either Scarlet and Gray or Carmen's Crew) has played in TBT. The team just never quite got out of the gate in this one. Carmen's Crew led 2-0, and cut the lead to one late in the fourth quarter, but other than that this was pretty much a blowout. Fail Harder led by 19 at halftime, and while Carmen's Crew did play better (especially on defense) in the second half, Fail Harder still led by 14 when the Elam Ending began.
Of course, the Elam Ending can make for crazy things, and Fail Harder was unable to find the last bucket for a while. Five straight empty possessions during the Elam Ending meant that Carmen's Crew--playing their best offense of the game in that same time span--cut the lead to 66-62 and were within two possessions of stealing the victory themselves. It couldn't last, though, and a baseline jump shot from Darius Adams sealed it.
Carmen's Crew was the top seed in the Indianapolis regional, and is the sixth top regional seed eliminated in this year's TBT. No No. 1 seed has won its region yet, and only two are still alive in regional finals.
This year's Carmen's Crew team had the fewest direct Ohio State affiliations of any Carmen's Crew roster so far (only four players attended Ohio State). The team has had fewer direct affiliations as the years have gone on, though William Buford was still a leader of this year's team until he got hurt. Maybe next year's roster will be more Buckeye-centric. Either way, let's hope 2026 is more like 2024 than 2025.

Another Big Ten football media days is in the books, and now we can focus our attention towards the start of fall camp and the buildup to the start of the 2025 college football season. Ohio State will be defending its College Football Playoff national championship and will look to add a couple of goals it missed out on last season -- winning the Big Ten and beating Michigan. That's not as easy as it used to be with the addition of former Pac-12 schools from the West Coast -- Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC-- and with Michigan and Penn State rising up to become national powers as well. The Big Ten has closed the gap on the SEC and created one of its own as the best conference in the country, and it should be another fantastic season in 2025. So, who has the advantage in making the Big Ten Championship game? Ohio State and Penn State are expected to be the best teams this year according to most of the media, but that's not what Jake Butt from the Big Ten Network thinks. In a segment on social media, Butt provided his picks for teams that will play in Indianapolis, and he omitted Ohio State, picking Penn State to tussle with Oregon instead. It's all opinion, of course, and it's not like the Ducks aren't a program to reckon with almost annually now, so there's that. But Butt not identifying his alma mater, Michigan or the Buckeyes, is an interesting take, especially considering Oregon lost as much talent as OSU. But never fear Ohio State fans, Butt did mention Ohio State as one of the teams that will contend for a College Football Playoff spot -- so there's at least that. Ohio State defending its title and having a shot at a conference crown will largely depend on the production it gets at the quarterback spot and how well the defense plugs some of those gaps lost to the NFL. It won't take long to see how those questions are answered because the Buckeyes open up against Texas in Week 1. Let the countdown continue. Urban Meyer and Mack Brown predict the winner of Ohio State vs. Texas in Week 1
We're a little over a month from the college football season kicking off, and this year it opens with a bang, especially if you are an Ohio State fan, because the Buckeyes host the Texas Longhorns in Week 1. It's a game everyone has been pointing to in the offseason, and for good reason. There's a great chance that it'll be a top-three matchup and a rematch of the classic College Football Playoff semifinal from last season. It's a little too early for us to dissect this thing and provide a prediction, but that has stopped others from weighing in on the game, especially as the season draws nigh. The latest to pontificate on how this one will play out are two guys with ties to each school. On a segment from the Triple Option podcast, former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and former Texas head coach Mack Brown each provided a prediction for the game. To nobody's surprise, really, each went with their rooting interests and allegiances. For Meyer, it boiled down to one player that will be the best on the field. 'They have Jeremiah Smith, the best player in college football, and I don't think it's really that close,' Meyer said on the podcast. 'You can roll up on him, you can double him, and you can slow him down. But you can't stop him. … But they have other weapons. They've recruited so well at the skill positions there.' For Brown, it had more to do with the experience at quarterback and when the game is going to be played that will swing the balance. 'I didn't like that it's the opening game for either team, especially when one loses in the (College Football Playoff) semifinals and one wins the national championship and loses its quarterback,' Brown said. 'We had Louisiana-Lafayette the week before we went to Columbus and to the Shoe (in 2005), so we had a warmup and won 60-3. So we at least had the routine of getting on the bus and getting all of those new players together and Friday before the game and pregame — you're not gonna have that. You have that young quarterback at Ohio State (Julian Sayin), and this is Arch Manning's really big deal and it's gonna be in front of millions of people. 'I like Texas because they've got Arch back and Ohio State's inexperienced at quarterback. And I like the fact that it's at noon for Texas. I played at 8 o'clock at night (in 2005)." Well then, that doesn't give us much insight into this one really, does it? You'd expect both to lean towards their emotions and look for a reason the team they want to win, to do just that. Not to take away from Meyer and Brown, but we'll continue to look at those in the media that don't have some ties to each program to see how they feel. In fact, ESPN's Heather Dinich has also already weighed in with a prediction. Let the countdown continue ... CBS Sports predicts first Ohio state football loss on 2025 schedule
With conference expansion and an expanded College Football Playoff, the prospects of going an entire season undefeated is becoming an almost impossible task. The best team in the game last year was Ohio State after going on the most impressive postseason run in the sports' history, but even the Buckeyes had two losses before figuring that all out. Big Ten football media days just finished up last week, and with it, we've seen a lot of focus on some Big Ten predictions across local and national coverage, including teams' win/loss records and more. And while Buckeye fans would love to believe Ohio State will go undefeated next season and beat all teams by at least two touchdowns, that's simply not realistic. CBS Sports' Brad Crawford published a piece predicting each Big Ten team's first loss of the 2025 schedule, and OSU fans probably won't like where he believes the Buckeyes will falter for the first time this fall. According to Crawford, he believes Ohio State will lose the season-opener against the Texas Longhorns on August 30. "Two new coordinators. A first-year starting quarterback. A rebuilt defensive front seven. It might take time for the reigning national champions to gel, but there's no easing in -- not with Texas coming to town," wrote Crawford. "The Longhorns also have revenge on their minds after Ohio State kept them out of the title game last year." It's hard to throw too much shade at Crawford for this. Rarely is there a season-opener as challenging as what Ohio State will face when it hosts Texas, but the game is on the banks of the Olentangy in the 'Shoe, so that should give the Buckeyes a significant boost. The game could really go either way, but don't be surprised if the Buckeyes can still take care of business in one whale of a first game of the year.
