TH receives 85,000 appeals from depositors for 2025 haj season
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar expressed hope that Saudi Arabia would consider Malaysia's request for an additional 10,000 places.
"We submitted the official request to the Saudi Arabian government last month.
"Last night, I sent a text message to my counterpart, Saudi Arabia's Haj and Umrah Minister Dr Tawfiq Fawzan Al-Rabiah, to check on the status of our appeal.
"I believe the Saudi Arabian government will give due consideration to our request," he told reporters after presenting food baskets to 100 underprivileged families in Kuala Sungai.
The programme was organised by the Kedah chapter of the Malaysian Youth Council, in cooperation with Yayasan Taqwa under the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP).
On Monday, TH's chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Syed Hamadah Syed Othman said the board had submitted the request for an additional 10,000 haj quota to Saudi Arabia through the government.
He was reported as saying that the first flight to the Holy Land is scheduled for April 29, with the final departure on May 30.
Meanwhile, Na'im said that those who had filed appeals would be considered if depositors who had been offered places to perform the pilgrimage this year were unable to proceed due to various reasons, such as health issues.
During his working visit to Kedah today, Na'im also said he would be handing over two houses to underprivileged families in Baling under Yayasan Taqwa's Bait Al-Falah project, followed by the presentation of aid to 110 recipients in the district.

He said that the government takes such cases seriously and will not tolerate those attempting to exploit umrah pilgrims, particularly senior citizens and civil servants, emphasising that strict action, including legal measures, will be taken against them. "I am deeply concerned and sympathetic over the plight of the 42 Malaysian umrah pilgrims who have reportedly been stranded in Jeddah since July 25 for not having return flight tickets. "Since early this year, I have repeatedly reminded the public to verify the status of companies offering umrah packages through official channels of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, including the dedicated portal and app for checking licenses of travel agents," he said in a Facebook post today. Mohd Na'im advised Muslims in the country to be wary and only opt for legitimate umrah operators to avoid similar incidents from recurring. Govt working to bring stranded umrah pilgrims in Jeddah back home
IPOH: Efforts are being taken to ensure the 42 Malaysian umrah pilgrims who were reportedly stranded in Jeddah since last week return to the country safely, says Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar. The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) said the government, through the Malaysian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, are making arrangements for the pilgrims. "I am deeply concerned and sympathise with the plight of 42 Malaysian umrah pilgrims who were reportedly stranded in Jeddah since July 25 due to the issue of unavailability of return flight tickets. "The embassy is paying full attention and arranging immediate measures to ensure the welfare and safety of all pilgrims, including efforts to bring them back home safely," he said in a statement on Monday (July 28). Dr Mohd Na'im said the government views such cases seriously and would not compromise on any party that tries to deceive or defraud umrah pilgrims, especially those involving senior citizens and civil servants. "Strict action, including through legal channels, will be taken against those who are complicit or guilty. "Since the beginning of this year, I have repeatedly reminded the public to check the status of companies and Umrah packages offered through official Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry channels, including a special portal and application for checking licensed travel agents," he said. "I call on Muslims in this country to always be vigilant and only choose legitimate, licensed, and registered Umrah operators with the authorities. I hope that such incidents will not occur again in the future," he added.

Tabung Haji to roll out digital passport submission for Haj pilgrims, eyes smoother process
KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 — Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) is working to introduce a digital passport submission system for Malaysian Haj pilgrims to minimise the need for them to visit TH branch offices in person, the Dewan Rakyat was told today. Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the initiative is among TH's ongoing efforts to enhance and improve efficiency in Haj management for the comfort of the pilgrims. 'May the administration and management of Malaysia's Haj pilgrimage continue to be among the best in the world, God willing,' he said when replying to a question from Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan (BN-Kuala Pilah). Zulkifli said various measures have been implemented by TH to ensure optimal management of the pilgrimage, including the introduction of a digital Haj medical record book, which helps medical personnel check pilgrims' health records online. 'This also aims to prevent the loss of physical medical books. In addition, the Haj mobility application was introduced to assist staff in coordinating pilgrims' movements throughout the Haj season,' he said. Meanwhile, Zulkifli said all eligible Malaysian pilgrims successfully obtained their Haj visas, including those who encountered technical issues during biometric registration via the Saudi Visa Bio mobile application. He said the achievement was the result of close cooperation between TH, the Embassy of Saudi Arabia, and relevant technical agencies. However, TH is aware that a small number of pilgrims experienced difficulties registering biometric data through the app. 'The issue stemmed from technical factors such as mobile device incompatibility, inaccurate facial or fingerprint scanning, and the need for ongoing technical system upgrades in line with current developments,' he said when replying to a question from Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Abd Muttalib (PN-Maran). Zulkifli said TH has taken several proactive measures to help ease pilgrims' use of the application, including providing complete guidelines and support through its official portal at for downloading and using the Saudi Visa Bio app. 'TH also conducts briefing sessions during the basic Haj courses nationwide. These guidelines are also clearly outlined in the haj offer letter issued to each pilgrim. 'TH customer service centres at headquarters and in all state branches are also available to assist pilgrims facing technical issues or in need of additional support,' he added.
