Kon Knueppel's Mom Turns Heads At The NBA Draft

The former five-star recruit, who comes from a major sports family, is seen as one of the most sure-fire bets to become a good to great NBA player.
ESPN currently has Knueppel landing at No. 4 overall to the Charlotte Hornets.
"Rival teams believe the Hornets will ultimately prioritize Knueppel's strong perimeter shooting, playmaking and leadership skills, as well as his strong fit with the likes of LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller. The Hornets would be going for a safer option in Knueppel after swinging for the fences with Tidjane Salaun in last year's draft at No. 6," ESPN writes.
"Knueppel rates well in analytics-based draft models, but the Hornets might ponder whether they could still add him if they elect to move down a few slots and acquire additional assets in the process."

Kentucky Basketball Spending Big in NIL Era
Kentucky Basketball Spending Big in NIL Era originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In today's college basketball, talent wins games, but money, specifically NIL money, wins recruiting battles. And nobody is playing that game more aggressively than the Kentucky Wildcats. Advertisement Led by head coach Mark Pope, Kentucky is making headlines, not just for the talent it's acquiring but for the cash it's investing in that talent. At the center of it all, quite literally, is 6-foot-10 Jayden Quaintance, a teenage phenom with a $1.9 million NIL valuation who's quickly becoming the face of the Wildcats' new era. Mar 13, 2025; Nashville, TN, USA; Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Pope gives instructions to his team against the Oklahoma Sooners during the first half at Bridgestone Arena. Mandatory Credit: Steve Roberts-Imagn Images© Steve Roberts-Imagn Images According to Fox Sports, Quaintance is the sixth-highest valued player in college basketball based on NIL earnings. He's also the youngest on the list, as he he won't turn 18 until later this July, making his financial standing all the more impressive. After a standout freshman season at Arizona State, where he earned Big 12 All-Defensive and All-Freshman honors, Quaintance hit the transfer portal. Kentucky, reportedly one of the top three NIL spenders in the nation, wasted no time locking him in. The big man now holds NIL deals with PSD Underwear and Panini America, brands that rarely throw endorsement money behind unproven prospects. But Quaintance isn't just any recruit. Mandatory Credit: Ben Queen-Imagn Images © Ben Queen-Imagn Images This is a calculated risk for Kentucky. Quaintance is currently rehabbing from an ACL tear but is expected to return early in the 2025–26 season. If healthy, he's projected to be a top-five pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Pope and the Wildcats are betting big on that upside, and paying accordingly. Advertisement But Quaintance isn't the only major investment. Kentucky's entire transfer class is drawing attention for the NIL dollars flowing into Lexington. Also, rumors continue to circulate that wing Otega Oweh, who withdrew from the NBA Draft and chose to return to Kentucky received a lucrative offer, though exact figures remain under wraps. It's clear Kentucky's strategy is shifting. They're no longer just betting on blue blood tradition and NBA pipelines, they're leveraging NIL capital to build a roster that can compete right now. For fans of the new NIL era, this is the drama they signed up for. Schools aren't just building programs, they're building brands. And few are doing it as boldly as Kentucky. As the 2025–26 season approaches, all eyes will be on Lexington. If Quaintance lives up to the hype, and the price tag, he could become the poster child of NIL success. For Kentucky, this could be the beginning of a new dynasty, funded by dollars and driven by dreams. Bill Belichick getting new UNC boss in 2026 as questions persist about future
North Carolina is making some changes at the top of its athletic program, with athletic director Bubba Cunningham moving into an advisory role following the season. Cunningham will continue his current role until the summer of 2026, when he will then transition to senior advisor to the chancellor and athletic director, according to the university. 3 Bubba Cunningham has served as UNC's Athletic Director since 2011. AP 'As part of my last contract extension, I committed to working with University leadership on a succession plan that would positively position Carolina Athletics and our 28 teams for the future,' Cunningham said. 'I appreciate the opportunity to extend my contract and enhance my role in a way that will allow me to continue to support our outstanding student-athletes, coaches and staff as we transition and navigate the changing athletics landscape. I am excited for the future.' Cunningham has been UNC's director of athletics since 2011 and has led the Tar Heel programs to 24 national titles in his tenure. He, along with an advisory committee, made the decision to hire the polarizing Belichick in December with hopes to revive the program which hasn't won a bowl game since 2019. Belichick was reportedly not Cunningham's 'preferred target' in the coaching search, perhaps suggesting a disconnect between the two. 3 Bubba Cunningham brought abord Bill Belichick. AP The 73-year-old is under contract as head coach until 2029, though his buyout sits at just $1 million, paving a way for a potential UNC departure if things don't go according to plan after his first season — or if he were to be eyeing up any sort of NFL job that may arise. With Cunningham's move to a new role, Steve Newmark, the president of Roush Fenway Keselowski (RFK) Racing, a NASCAR team, will take over. RFK Racing is a part of the Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool FC and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Newmark has been hired as executive associate athletic director and 'will report to Cunningham and initially focus his attention on strategies tied to revenue-driving initiatives, particularly related to UNC's Football and Men's and Women's Basketball programs, before transitioning to the Director of Athletics role in the summer of 2026,' according to UNC. 3 Bill Belichick next to his girlfriend Jordon Hudson. NHLI via Getty Images Cunningham was involved in some controversy earlier this year when UNC's men's basketball team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament over teams who were seemingly more deserving. He was chairman of the tournament's selection committee and had a clause in his UNC contract for monetary bonuses if the team reached the tournament — prompting an investigation brought forth by one of the snubbed tournament teams, West Virginia, into collusion.

Kiyan Anthony Talks Bronny James' Nepo Baby Pressure: 'I Kind Of Felt Bad For Him'
We've already seen NBA players of yesteryear produce NBA-worthy talent in the likes of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and more, but now, it's time for the next generation. Leading that cohort is, of course, Bronny James, who's currently his father's Los Angeles Lakers teammate, and next up from that era is Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan. The younger Anthony recently sat on his dad's podcast at 7PM in Brooklyn to talk about the pressures of following in his dad's footsteps and the nepo baby allegations. He was joined by newly minted rookie Dylan Harper, son of five-time NBA Champion Ron Harper. ' Bronny [James] , I kind of felt bad for him, that's my guy. He doesn't speak a lot, he's not gonna go on the internet and say what he's gotta say, but like deep down, like behind closed doors, he probably was going through it,' Kiyan said. He continues, 'Like you're seeing this every day, you're on social media, you can't even scroll twice without seeing a post with your name on it.' What seems to baffle Kiyan the most is those who think he didn't deserve to be the 55th pick, and defends his talent. 'At the end of the day, he's nice… People trying to say he's not good… I think he's really nice and I think he really has a chance to prosper in the NBA,' he adds. Carmelo adds that despite all the external pressures, NBA kids are just focused on silencing the noise and balling out instead. 'It's very difficult for them, but I will give them credit because they really don't give a f-ck as much as everybody else give a f-ck,' Melo said. A major difference between Bronny and LeBron is that he didn't skip college and instead went to USC for a year, but his lone season was a bit complicated after he suffered cardiac arrest, which slowed his basketball progression. As for Kiyan, he's following Melo's lead. After graduating from Long Island Lutheran High School last month, he'll be heading upstate New York to join the Syracuse Orange basketball team, where former head coach Jim Boheim still has influence as the Special Assistant to the Athletic Director. Syracuse offered Anthony a scholarship two years ago, along with 17 other schools, including Tennessee, Rutgers, Auburn, USC, Arizona State, and Ohio State.
