The Chicago Cubs have their best team since the 2016 World Series champions, but they'll learn a lot about their potential during this weekend's series with the AL West-leading Houston Astros. If you're planning to play a wager or two on MLB or any other sport this weekend, then you need to know about the Fanatics Sportsbook promo that delivers a fistful of bonus bets, No Sweat Bets or profit-boost tokens — depending on where you live.
Here's the scoop: If you're a new bettor playing in Michigan, New Jersey or Pennsylvania, you'll receive $300 in bonus bets for playing $30 in first bets over a three-day stretch. If you're a new bettor in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia or West Virginia, you're guaranteed $250 in bonus bets by placing $50 in first bets over a five-day run.
New bettors in all states (except New York) can choose the classic Fanatics Sportsbook welcome offer that gives you access to as much as $1,000 in No Sweat Bets over 10 days. New bettors playing in New York, meanwhile, have a sweet offer of their own: They get to play one 100% profit-boost token each day for 10 straight days.
Since the Cubs won the World Series in 2016 — ending 108 years of agony for their massive fan base — they've struggled to build a team strong enough to get back to that point. But between shrewd trades for prospects (hello, likely All-Star center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong) and shrewd trades for superstars about to hit free agency (hello, likely All-Star right fielder Kyle Tucker, whom they acquired from the Astros), they've built a squad that leads the NL Central and could challenge the Los Angeles Dodgers if their starting pitching solidifies.
Anyway, if you check the Fanatics Sportsbook app — one of the nation's best sports betting apps — you'll see the Cubs are an intriguing +1200 to win the World Series while the Astros are next in line at +1400. If you'd rather play on this weekend's games, you'll discover hundreds of ways to play on any MLB contest.
To start playing, it takes just two minutes to capitalize on one of the lowest-risk, highest-reward sportsbook promos in the nation. Tap the nearby BET NOW button to trigger the Fanatics Sportsbook promo and collect your share of bonus bets, No Sweat Bets or profit-boost tokens.

There's no soccer Friday, but the FIFA Club World Cup and CONCACAF Gold Cup hit the knockout stage this weekend with some big matches. The World Cup's Round of 16 features a doozy early Sunday with Lionel Messi and Inter Miami facing PSG in Atlanta. On Sunday evening in Gold Cup quarterfinal action, the United States takes on Costa Rica. Click the Soccer tab to access the latest odds on everything, including the Quick Bets.
Did you notice the last game on the list? It's the first time Indiana's Caitlin Clark and Dallas' Paige Bueckers play each other as pros — and the WNBA surely hope it's the first of many times. There's just one catch: the Wings aren't good right now and the Fever are still figuring out how to be a contender. Nonetheless, it's a worthy wagering opportunity on the league's last two No. 1 overall picks.
Looking ahead to Saturday night for a moment, UFC 317 features two title fights — including a clash between Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira for the vacated lightweight title. (Remember, Islam Makhachev is headed up to welterweight.) Anyway, Topuria is ranked No. 3 on UFC's toughest pound-for-pound list while Oliveira stands 13th. Click the UFC tab to get the latest odds on every UFC 317 fight.

Phillies squander Sanchez's strong start on way to being swept by Astros

Phillies squander Sanchez's strong start on way to being swept by Astros originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia 81 games down. Halfway through the 2025 season. And Houston, we may have a problem. Advertisement Over the weekend, the Phillies put up two thrilling offensive performances against the Mets to take the top spot in the NL East. Four days, three games and 26.2 consecutive scoreless innings later … the Phillies are searching for any signs of life. A 2-1 loss to the Astros Thursday marks the third time the Phillies have been swept in the last month. Houston only needed five runs across three games to get the job done. Any momentum that was building through that Mets series has been squandered, and once again, this club is creating more questions than answers for themselves. This series has felt like daily déjà vu — lifeless offensive performances that tossed spectacular outings from starting pitching to the wayside. Advertisement First, you had a gem from Ranger Suarez, who allowed one run through 7.2 innings. Wednesday, we were spoiled with more dominance from Zack Wheeler, who also only allowed one run through 6 innings. Going three-for-three, the Phillies then wasted Cristopher Sanchez's outing. He went 6 innings, while allowing one run and striking out 11. A combined three earned runs from the starting pitching and no run support to show for it. Often mentioned are the ebbs and flows of baseball — but it's important to also acknowledge what the past few days have been — a rut. It took until the eighth inning to see a run cross the plate with some situational hitting. Bryson Stott worked a leadoff walk and made his way to third when Rafael Marchan singled. Brandon Marsh collected the lone RBI of the series with a sacrifice fly. Advertisement Stott was the only runner in scoring position the entire series. Next? Adding insult to injury. Orion Kerkering has been the most consistent bullpen arm the Phillies have had over the past six weeks. After fighting tooth and nail for that one run to tie the game, Kerkering gave up his first earned run since the first week of May.

NHL, NHLPA reach labor peace and sign four-year CBA with longer regular season coming

LOS ANGELES — The NHL has achieved labor peace in our time. The league and the NHLPA announced Friday morning that a memorandum of understanding has been signed on a four-year collective bargaining agreement beginning in the 2026-27 season, with ratification on both sides still needed before things are completely final. Both sides declined to confirm specific details at a press conference Friday morning, citing the need for ratification, but it's been widely reported the NHL will expand to an 84-game regular season, with the preseason being shortened in return. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman speaks before the NHL hockey draft Friday, June 27, 2025, in Los Angeles. AP 'That's certainly one of the things that was a topic of discussion,' commissioner Gary Bettman said. Per The Athletic's Chris Johnston, the CBA also includes a reduction of max contracts to seven years when a player is re-signing and six years for free agents, the elimination of deferred salary and salary cap enforcement during the playoffs. Unlike past CBA negotiations, this one appears to have been relatively smooth sailing, with Bettman and NHLPA head Marty Walsh praising the way both sides worked together in a press conference Friday morning before the draft. 'We started the conversation in end of March, early April. As Gary framed it, very good meetings,' Walsh said. 'Didn't agree on everything, but no major blowouts in the room. We just talked about keeping it in front of us moving forward.' The exact timing for ratification was left unsaid, but the mere fact that a press conference with both sides was held Friday indicates that is not expected to be a stumbling block. Marty Walsh of the NHLPA along with Gary Bettman of the NHL announce a tentative CBA agreement at Peacock Theater on June 27, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. Getty Images The four-year length of the CBA was a priority for the PA, Walsh said. The league was happy to oblige. 'I just think it's important, for longer-term contracts, you have players in the league that play that have never gone through negotiations,' Walsh said. 'We have some players that came into this league under the last agreement and retired under the last agreement. They have had a chance to really express their collective bargaining opinions or rights.' No additional details were revealed about the 2026 Olympic kickoff event at UBS Arena or the 2027 All-Star weekend that will also take place on Long Island. Deputy commissioner Bill Daley repeated that this year will be an 'entertainment event' that includes players, and there will be an on-ice event at UBS in 2027; however, the exact format of either is not yet clear.
