The surprise cake that a Gen Zer picked out for his uncle's birthday party has left viewers on Reddit in stitches.
The college student's dad had taken to the platform under u/watchthisorthat on May 23 to share what his son had presented to him and his brother at the event.
"I asked my college age son to pick up a cake for my brother's birthday (his uncle)," the Reddit user said in the post. "We are having a lot of people over including kids and grandparents.
"He is not getting married and he isn't gay."
Accompanying the text was an image of the cake. White and rectangular in shape, with cream-shaded icing, an italic text on the front of the cake read: "Congrats on the gay marriage."
The post quickly went viral on the platform, amassing more than 72,000 upvotes and 2,600 comments to date, with many Reddit users sharing their lighthearted takes on the prank or poking fun at the Reddit user's son's decision.
Several viewers shared how they would react if met with a similar prank on their own special day, or what they think happened between the family after the post gained traction online.
"I bet that kid is still laughing," one viewer said.
"Bonus points if the son announces his gay marriage on his birthday," another added.
"I'm not gay, but if my nephew got me this cake unprompted, I'd be laughing too," a third viewer shared.
"I am gay and if my nephew got me this cake I would be very impressed since he's a toddler," another commented.
"Bro is getting a whole pride parade for his bday," another viewer joked, while another added: "That's when you get a 'congrats you're expecting' cake and everything thinks there's a baby, always up the joke."

"I would be rolling if this happened to me," another said. "I would also know that I did a good job as an uncle teaching my nephews not to take life too seriously."
"I'm still laughing and I don't even know them," another added.
"I mean this is sincerely hilarious," another said. "Bet he doesn't get asked to do any more errands."
"My actually gay brother always gives cards for the wrong occasion," a different viewer commented. "It's your birthday? Here's a condolences card. Happy Mother's Day? Here's an oddly specific 8th grade graduation card. He once gave my preschool aged (at the time) son a Father's Day card for his birthday. It's silly and harmless. I wouldn't have a problem with this cake at all. I'd think it was hilarious and I'd come close to hyperventilating with excessive laughter."

Rory McIlroy Hits Bizarre One-Swing, Two-Balls shot at Open Championship
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Whenever we think we've seen everything that can happen on the course, golf always proves to us that it's an endless source of surprises. If you don't believe this, just look at what happened to Rory McIlroy on the 11th hole during the second round of the Open Championship. It's well known that the tee shot on that hole is one of the most difficult to execute at Royal Portrush, with most balls ending up in the native area to the right of the fairway. If that's the reality for the professional stars, imagine what it must be like for the amateurs who play there day in, day out. Well, McIlroy sent his tee shot into the rough, close to the native area to the right of the fairway and, naturally, went to play his second shot from there. The ball didn't have a terrible lie, so everything pointed to it being an easy one for the Northern Irishman. More ANDY BUCHANAN / AFP/Getty Images And it was, but at the same time, it was one of the most bizarre situations ever seen in golf. It so happened that McIlroy's ball ended up lying exactly on top of another ball that was completely buried in the ground. Undoubtedly a ball that someone had given up for lost, and it's impossible to determine how long it had been there. McIlroy's swing sent HIS ball 117 yards into the fairway, but it also unearthed THE OTHER BALL, as can be clearly seen in the video of the moment circulating on social media. The Northern Irishman was suddenly attending two balls: his own, traveling toward the hole, and the other resting at his feet. No violation, Just Another Bizarre Situation in Golf Naturally, there were likely initial doubts about whether McIlroy had hit his own ball, which could result in penalties. However, one only has to watch the video to realize there was no infraction there. Wait ... what?! What are the odds? 🤯 Watch @TheOpen live on NBC. — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) July 19, 2025 The five-time major champion ended up making bogey on the hole, but it was just a blip in the tremendous charge he made during the moving day to get into contention. On the front nine he carded three birdies without bogeys, while he reacted to his bogey on the 11th hole with a tremendous eagle on the 12th, including a 56-foot putt that brought the crowd to their feet. He added another birdie on the 15th without any other bogey, finishing at 5-under for the round and 8-under for the first 54 holes of the Open Championship. This put him tied for fifth place, with the round still to end. More Golf: The Open Makes Brutal Change to End Old Tactics Used by Players

Chris Martin courts scandal again at first show since Astronomer kiss-cam controversy — but issues a cheeky warning
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin warned fans to get camera-ready during his concert Saturday night — a wink and a nod to the massive scandal caused by the kiss-cam at his last show. The moment came just a few days after millionaire CEO Andy Byron and his HR executive Kristin Cabot sparked an online firestorm by awkwardly dodging the cam caught canoodling at Coldplay's Boston show Wednesday. 'We'd like to say hello to some of you in the crowd, how we gonna do that, is we gonna use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen,' Martin told the crowd at a show in Camp Randall Stadium in Madison on Saturday, according to videos posted by concertgoers on social media. 3 Chris Martin issued a cheeky warning to audience members at his first Coldplay show since the Astronomer CEO kiss cam scandal. Getty Images 'So please, if you haven't done your makeup, do your makeup now,' he said. The cheeky comment came just days after Byron, 50, and Cabot, 52, were caught cuddling — then panicking — as jumbotron cameras zeroed in on them in a crowd of 55,000 during Coldplay's concert at Gillette Stadium. Cabot quickly shielded her face while Byron ducked out of view, the video showed. 3 Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR Chief Kristin Cabot's alleged affair was exposed at a Coldplay concert Wednesday. Martin quipped, 'Either they're having an affair or they're very shy.' By Thursday morning, the pair was identified as the high-powered CEO and HR boss of a tech company. On Friday — the same day a new video emerged of Byron and Cabot — their stunning downfall accelerated, as both were placed on leave while Astronomer said it was investigating the debacle. And an interim CEO, company co-founder Pete DeJoy, a Brooklynite, was named. 3 Byron has since resigned as CEO of Astronomer. Grace Springer via Storyful By Saturday, news broke that Byron has quit the company. Byron, estimated to be worth between $50 and $70 million, was paid between $469,000 and $690,000 a year, but received handsome performance-based bonuses. Cabot's future with the AI-driven data company remains unclear.

Couple Save for Wedding Then Senior Dog Got Sick—They Had To Make A Choice
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. When their 15-year-old Chihuahua mix Elvis fell ill, Heather and her fiancé knew exactly what to do. Instead of planning their wedding, Heather and her partner redirected the money to save their dog's life. As Elvis began suffering seizures Heather, 29, from Maine rushed him to the vet. "We've had multiple ER visits and appointments with his normal doctor to try and figure out why he's passing out/having seizures. This weekend, he stayed at the emergency vet, and then we brought him back the night we got him back because he had two seizures again," Heather told Newsweek. Elvis, who also has early-stage kidney disease, suffered three episodes in a single night, prompting Heather to rush him to the ER again. Despite extensive testing—including X-rays, EKGs, ultrasounds, and a heart monitor—the cause remains unclear. Heather and her fiancé with their senior dog. Heather and her fiancé with their senior dog. @ "They kept going back from neurology to cardiology to try and figure out which one is the issue. We still don't exactly know what the main issue is, it could just be a factor of everything being a little off," Heather said. But thankfully, after a few days care from veterinarians, Elvis was ready to come home. "We picked him up last night and let me say the king is back," Heather said, delighted. "We're still going to take it easy, but I could not be happier at this moment." The couple had planned a low-key elopement this summer, with Elvis front and center. "I haven't nailed down the wedding plan yet. I know Elvis is older, and I want him to be a part of it. We have a photoshoot scheduled in August with him. We had planned to elope at the end of this summer and have a low-key, backyard event with immediate family, so that way Elvis could be a guaranteed part of it," Heather said. "I'll go into debt over my dog but not over a wedding. I think the plan now is just to figure out something small with Elvis there and plan a bigger celebration at some point later," she said, although the couple did not share the full cost of the vet bill. According to a poll by Talker Research for the insurance company MetLife, the average pet owner spent $2,085.60 on their animals in 2024. Despite pet owners increasingly seeing their pets as part of the family, a survey by PetSmart Charities found that 52 percent of owners have skipped or declined medical care for their pet. Of those, 71 percent cite cost as the key factor, whether because they could not afford it, they did not think it was worth the cost, or both. Amber Batteiger, from Embrace Pet Insurance previously told Newsweek: "Our average individual claim cost in 2024 was $445, but pet emergencies can cost tens of thousands of dollars." Because of this, she recommended pet owners have an emergency fund for pet medical issues, aiming for around $2,000 per pet. The couple shared how they spent their wedding fund on saving their pet, with the video on Instagram gaining more than 40,000 views since being posted earlier this week. "Would give everything I have for this little boy," the caption says, while the on-screen text reads: "When you spend your whole wedding budget saving your 15 year old dog." "Elvis deserves the whole world," said one commenter. While another wrote: "They are worth every single penny." "I've always said Elvis comes first; he lives a better life than me because I owe him my life. I got him in high school, my sister, who passed away actually picked him out... I was the first person he let hold, and it was soulmates from there," Heather said. "I'm not kidding when I say I love him more than anything in the world (maybe fiancé excluded)."
