Uttar Pradesh is planning a new tourism policy aimed at boosting private investment, creating local jobs, and accelerating economic growth, in line with its goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy.
Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh has directed officials to chart a revised roadmap on the lines of peer state Rajasthan. The department will identify key tourism sites and introduce countryside homestays in villages reflecting tribal cultures such as 'Tharu'.

PM Narendra Modi will on Saturday visit his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for 52 development projects worth Rs 2,183.45 crore, focusing on a boost to eastern UP development. The projects will be in key sectors such as road infrastructure, healthcare, education, sports, tourism and urban development. Initiatives include the construction and widening of roads, hospital upgrades, enhancement of educational institutions, improved drinking water and sanitation facilities, These will also boost development of sports infrastructure, establishment of a homeopathic college, construction of paved ghats for religious tourism, expansion of electricity and parking facilities, pond renovation and the setting up of libraries, animal hospitals and dog care centres, said a government statement. The PM will also release the 20th installment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, transferring Rs 20,500 crore to the bank accounts of over 9.70 crore eligible farmers across the country. A public meeting is scheduled at Banauli (Kalika Dham) village in the Sevapuri Assembly constituency, where both Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will address the gathering. Preparations are underway and the venue has been divided into 20 blocks, each overseen by dedicated officers, the statement said. This is the PM's 51st visit to Kashi. He is expected to arrive at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport around 10 am, from where he will proceed to the public meeting venue by helicopter. BJP leaders, including Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will receive him at the airport. Extensive decorations are being put in place across Varanasi, including more than 1,000 hoardings, BJP flags and welcome arches at key locations.

1 2 Lucknow: UP will account for around 25% of the total small and marginal farmers nationally who will receive the 20th instalment of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PMKSN), scheduled to be released by PM Narendra Modi from Varanasi on August 2. The scheme envisages the distribution of Rs 6,000 to identified farmers in three instalments. In all, the centre is scheduled to release a sum of Rs 20,500 crore to be distributed to around 9.7 crore farmers nationally. Of this, 2.3 crore farmers from UP are proposed to benefit from the ambitious scheme, which was rolled out by Modi on Dec 1, 2018. UP agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi said that the upcoming instalment was important for the farmers to meet the requirements of farming and irrigation in the ongoing Kharif season. Data show that around 2.38 crore farmers in UP benefited from the scheme in 2024-25. Shahi said that the state govt has been screening the list of beneficiaries on a regular basis for the efficient distribution of the funds amongst the farmers. As a matter of fact, the state govt has decided to make elaborate arrangements to engage farmers virtually at the district, block, and panchayat levels. Special arrangements are proposed to be made in the case of KVKs, where central and state ministers are expected to reach. The state govt has also sought elaborate arrangements to publicise the govt schemes and how the funds were being directly credited into the accounts of farmers.
