Calandagan rules supreme for France in King George
Francis-Henri Graffard's gelding was bidding to keep the trophy in the Chantilly yard after Goliath prevailed 12 months ago, with his key rival seemingly Aidan O'Brien's Coronation Cup winner Jan Brueghel, who had edged the Aga Khan Studs-owned four-year-old at Epsom.
Calandagan was the well-backed 11-10 favourite to turn the tables and after an incredibly patient ride from Mickael Barzalona he swept through to pick off all of his rivals and pass the gallant Kalpana ahead of the line for a one-length triumph.
It is the fifth time the race has been won by a horse carrying the green and red silks, with Shergar the most famous of the those winners after prevailing for the fourth Aga Khan, who died in February this year at the age of 88.
'I am so pleased for the horse, it was a competitive race,' said Graffard.

'The tactics during the race were not what I was expecting, when I saw Continuous going very steadily it was all different.
'When the filly (Kalpana) kicked on for home my horse was still travelling well, I was hoping he was going to catch her at the end. He lengthened so strongly, he's a very good horse.
'I wanted to see my horse getting into his rhythm and lengthening his stride, when I really saw him coming I started to shout.
'He won nicely again today, he's a good horse, that's two in row now in Group Ones.
'Mickael knows him very well and he has a lot confidence in the horse. You saw the ride he gave him, he had a lot of confidence and he won – we are so happy.'

Joao Felix departs Chelsea and joins Ronaldo at Al Nassr
PORTUGUESE FORWARD JOAO Felix has signed a two-year deal with Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr, where he will join Cristiano Ronaldo, the club announced Tuesday. Al Nassr have paid Chelsea a fee worth a reported €50.5 million (£43.7m) to secure Felix's services. Felix, now 25, made a blockbuster move from Benfica to Atletico Madrid in 2019, but has since seen his fortunes decline. 'I'm here to spread joy. Let's win together,' said Felix in a video posted on the Riyadh club's X account. A separate post said he had signed until 2027. He has since failed to score more than 10 goals a season, despite stints at Barcelona, AC Milan and Chelsea. According to Arryadia, a Riyadh sports newspaper, Felix will earn €8.7m a year. Saudi Arabia has shaken up football by spending heavily on stars from Europe, starting with Ronaldo's arrival in 2023, and the conservative desert nation will host the World Cup in 2034. Cork City's teen star Cathal O'Sullivan suffers ACL injury
The gloom around Cork City has grown further after the club confirmed their brightest hope, 18-year-old Cathal O'Sullivan, suffered an ACL injury in last Friday's 3-2 defeat to Sligo Rovers. O'Sullivan is reportedly on the radar of several clubs, including Brentford, Crystal Palace and Celtic. He has clocked up 21 league appearances for Cork this season, and made his Republic of Ireland Under-21 debut last month against Croatia. The talented playmaker went off after 20 minutes against the Bit O' Red after a slip when competing for the ball with Sligo's Sean Stewart. Ger Nash's team coughed up a two-goal lead in that game to fall to a loss that leaves them 11 points adrift at the bottom of the Premier Division table. Now, they must somehow try to claw that deficit back with O'Sullivan on the sidelines. "We are all absolutely gutted for Cathal to have suffered this injury," said Nash. "As everybody knows, he is a really talented player with a very promising future, so this is a big setback for him, but we will all rally around him and support him. I have no doubt that he will come back stronger from this, and we will all support him in doing so." O'Sullivan had spent time with Palace earlier this year with a cross-channel move expected this month or at some time next year. The injury leaves Nash's squad further depleted. On Tuesday, Shelbourne signed French defender Milan Mbeng on a multi-year deal for an undisclosed fee, while winger Malik Dijksteel signed a pre-contract agreement with Scottish Premiership outfit St Mirren last week and may depart before the UK window closes.
