Cycling-Ferrand-Prevot becomes first French rider to clinch Tour de France Femmes title
CHATEL, France (Reuters) -Olympic champion Pauline Ferrand-Prevot became the first Frenchwoman to win the Tour de France Femmes on Sunday, pushing through three punishing climbs to win the final stage ahead of 2023 champion Demi Vollering, who finished second overall.
The 33-year-old of team Visma–Lease a Bike held steady through the 124.1km ride from Praz-sur-Arly to Chatel, before launching a decisive attack in the last seven kilometres.
Vollering (FDJ–Suez) stayed in a group with Ferrand-Prevot for the majority of the ninth stage, but could not break away to make up her deficit of more than three minutes coming into the last day.
Ferrand-Prevot, who won gold in women's cross-country mountain biking at last year's Paris Games, had taken the yellow jersey from Kimberley Le Court on Saturday.
Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx–Protime), who has led the points classification since stage three, did not chase the leading group and was on track to win the green jersey to deny Dutch compatriot Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike) a third Tour title in the category.

Soccer-Former West Germany World Cup winner Mill dies aged 67
(Reuters) -Former West Germany striker and World Cup winner Frank Mill has died aged 67, the German FA (DFB) said on Tuesday. The Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Moenchengladbach player was part of the West Germany squad at the 1990 World Cup in Italy, where they lifted the trophy after a 1-0 victory over defending champions Argentina in the final. German media said Mill suffered a heart attack in May shortly after getting in a taxi in Milan. He was later flown back to Germany but never recovered. Born in Essen, Mill earned 17 caps and was part of his country's squad that claimed bronze at the 1988 Olympic Games. "We mourn the loss of Frank Mill, our 1990 world champion," the DFB said in a statement. "Rest in peace, Frank. Our thoughts are with his family and friends." The 25-year-old former Vuelta a Espana winner, who won gold in the road race and time trial at last year's Paris Games, joined Soudal Quick-Step in 2019, and was contracted to the team until the end of 2026. "Representatives of Remco informed the team's management that he did not wish to discuss an extension of his current agreement," Soudal Quick-Step said in a statement. "The team's ownership and management have decided that it is in best interest of everyone to agree that Remco can move at the end of the current 2025 season." In December, Evenepoel collided with the open door of a vehicle while training in Belgium, suffering multiple fractures, a dislocated collarbone and contusions to both lungs. He underwent surgery and worried he might have to retire, but returned to competition in April. Evenepoel was third overall when he abandoned the Tour de France during the 14th stage last month.
