Rainbow Run returns to Cornwall for 11th year

Yahoo09-02-2025
A popular charity fun run is set to return this summer.
Taking place at RAF St Mawgan, Newquay, the Rainbow Run Cornwall on June 21 is in aid of Children's Hospice South West (CHSW).
The event, now in its 11th year, has collaborated with Penryn-based business Kernow Coatings, which is the new main sponsor.
Participants aged five and over can join the 5km run, walking or running through eight different paint stations.
Last year, the event saw more than 1,500 participants raise a record-breaking £114,000 for CHSW's Little Harbour children's hospice in St Austell.
CHSW event fundraiser Kiley Pearce said: "It is incredible that Rainbow Run is still attracting so many participants of all ages after 11 years.
"Alongside families making memories with their children, we see fitness groups and clubs taking part together, businesses using the day as a team-builder, and friends using it as an opportunity for a fun day out.
"What is so special is that the event continues to grow in terms of the sponsorship raised, which is down to the dedication and commitment of those taking part, who understand that by participating, they're supporting their local children's hospice.
"We thank RAF St Mawgan for allowing us to return each year to use the venue as the home of Rainbow Run."
Tickets are now on sale, with a 30 per cent early-bird discount for a limited time.
Participants are encouraged to raise £25 in sponsorship individually, or £70 as a family, and every finisher will receive a Rainbow Run medal.
Super-duper early-bird tickets are £14 for adults and £7 for children and are available until April 2.
Little Harbour supports more than 130 families from across Cornwall and Plymouth through day visits, resilience stays at the hospice, home visits, and virtual support.
It costs around £3 million a year to run Little Harbour, which relies almost entirely on voluntary donations.

High-speed train linking NYC to Los Angeles proposed ahead of FIFA World Cup

A high-speed rail line hopes to connect Los Angeles to New York City in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. A proposal — dubbed 'The Transcontinental Chief' and pitched to Amtrak as well as President Trump and his secretary of transportation, Sean Duffy — would shoot riders between the country's two biggest cities in just 72 hours. Delaware-based Ameristar Rail said it would use existing infrastructure owned by Amtrak and other regional rail lines passing through major cities like Kansas City, Chicago and Philadelphia rather than launch a massive and costly new public project. Advertisement It would be funded by private investors — not taxpayers — and would carry vehicles as well as passengers, modeled after Europe's truck transport trains, Ameristar said. A proposed high-speed rail line could soon connect Los Angeles to New York City in under 72 hours. 'The Transcontinental Chief will be a great opportunity for Amtrak to team up with the private sector to confront the challenges of its money-losing long-distance trains and create opportunities to usher in a profitable Golden Age of rail travel for passengers and truckers, with the ingenuity of free enterprise, as we celebrate our great nation's 250th birthday next year,' Scott Spencer, AmeriStarRail's chief operating officer, wrote in a letter to Amtrak, according to Newsweek. Advertisement AmeriStarRail hopes to have it running by May 10, 2026 — in time for the FIFA World Cup, which is being hosted across North America, with the finals at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The plan has been pitched to President Trump and Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, the paper reported. The Trump administration has been notified of the proposal, which would utilize already-existing rail infrastructure. muratart – Ameristar leaders said taxpayers will not foot the project, which would be funded by private investors. Advertisement 'Subject to operating agreements with the host railroads (BNSF, Norfolk Southern and New Jersey Transit) the Transcontinental Chief can start operations on National Train Day, Sunday, May 10, 2026 to begin serving tourists for America 250 celebrations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup,' a spokesperson said. 'The Transcontinental Chief can be privately operated and funded, without new congressional legislation or additional federal spending.' Amtrak has not yet responded to the proposal, according to Newsweek.

Kimi Antonelli Breaks Silence after Verstappen's Strong Links to Mercedes

Mercedes Formula One driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli has broken his silence amid rumors of Max Verstappen's potential switch from Red Bull to Mercedes. Kimi Antonelli is reported to have signed a one-year deal with the Brackley-based outfit, which is set to expire at the end of this year. George Russell's claim about his contract extension being on hold due to Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff's ongoing talks with Verstappen triggered speculation about the possibility of Verstappen moving to Mercedes. Russell's contract is also set to expire at the end of 2025. While Wolff admitted that Russell and Kimi Antonelli would fill both seats at Mercedes next year, he didn't shy away from saying that he would keep tabs on Verstappen to potentially sign him in the future. Verstappen pledged his loyalty to Red Bull a few weeks ago, stressing that he wasn't switching teams. However, the sudden ousting of Red Bull team principal Christian Horner on Wednesday might have changed the situation. Third placed Andrea Kimi Antonelli of Italy and Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team talks with Second placed Max Verstappen of the Netherlands and Oracle Red Bull Racing in parc ferme during the F1 Grand Prix of Canada at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on June 15, 2025 in Montreal, Quebec. MoreIt is thought that Verstappen and Wolff met off the coast of Sardinia this week to hold further discussions, adding fuel to the speculation. Kimi Antonelli, who made his F1 debut in Australia this year, admitted that "there is a lot going on," but stressed that he would continue focusing on his performance. When asked if he received assurances from Mercedes about racing next year, he said: "I mean, obviously, there is a lot going on. But I am sure the team is doing their best to provide for the future as well, because they're obviously not just looking at next year, but also looking for the future as well. "There are a lot of talks going on, but my goal is just to try and do my best, no matter what." Kimi Antonelli went on to confirm that he wasn't holding talks with any other team. Predicting a rough road for Red Bull, given Horner's exit and ongoing challenges with the RB21 F1 car, former FIA steward Johnny Herbert said Mercedes would likely be Verstappen's preference. He said: "It sounds very much so, that the Mercedes thing is where he's probably going to end up. So, it's probably not a surprise everything with Christian anyway." Hinting at key Red Bull exits since mid-2024, he added: "Now, it's going to be a really difficult period for them [Red Bull], because obviously, with all the changes, with Jonathan [Wheatley] and Adrian [Newey] and a few other people, and of course, with Christian as well. "It's in a very precarious position at the moment, because, like anything in Formula 1, you've got to be able to have the right ingredients, which includes personnel, direction, and that's all been slowly, sort of eroded away. "And then you've got the performances on the track at the end of the day, and a probably not so happy Max, definitely not a happy Jos, but it's probably not a happy Max. "Because Max, as you know, wants to be in a situation of winning races and a world championship, and that sort of, again, slowly, sort of eroded away over the last, what, year and a half, I guess."

Ferrari Sent Lewis Hamilton Exit Warning Amid Christian Horner Rumours

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Christian Horner's potential move to Ferrari as team principal Fred Vasseur's replacement could pave the way for seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton's departure, according to Will Buxton. Horner served as Red Bull Racing's team principal for 20 years before being ousted by the team on Wednesday. While the reason for his exit remains unknown, Ferrari's interest in Horner, which dated back to 2022, has resurfaced, especially given the rumors of Vasseur's potential exit in the recent races. Speculation is that Ferrari is unhappy with Vasseur's performance, although these rumors have been shut down by Vasseur, Lewis Hamilton, and Charles Leclerc. The Maranello-based outfit last won the Constructors' Championship in 2008. Kimi Räikkönen was the last Ferrari driver to have secured the 2007 Drivers' Championship. Horner's availability has led many to believe that Ferrari could approach him again. However, motorsport journalist Buxton has pointed out that Hamilton's move from Mercedes to Ferrari early this year was influenced by Vasseur. If Ferrari were to part ways with Vasseur, it could also lead to Hamilton's exit. Speaking on The Sports Agents podcast, Buxton explained: Scuderia Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur and Oracle Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner arrive in the paddock together during qualifying ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Mexico at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on... Scuderia Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur and Oracle Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner arrive in the paddock together during qualifying ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Mexico at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on October 26, 2024 in Mexico City, Mexico. More"One of the key reasons that Lewis moved to Ferrari wasn't just the allure of racing for the Scuderia. It was to link up once again with Fred Vasseur, who ran Lewis to his junior series championships. "Lewis adores that man and has absolute faith in Fred Vasseur. If they replaced Fred with Christian Horner, I don't think Lewis would be a Ferrari driver for much longer." F1 journalist Joe Saward highlighted Ferrari chairman John Elkann's interest in Horner back in 2022, given rumors about Horner joining Ferrari swirled in the paddock during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend. He also pointed out concerns with Vasseur but stressed that Horner would refuse the offer. He wrote in his blog: "This story was true about three years ago when Ferrari chairman John Elkann jetted over the England and dropped in to see Christian and asked him if he would like to move to Maranello. Horner said 'Thanks for the offer' and Elkann rang his pilots and told them to spool up the jets. "Horner's response is unlikely to change if Ferrari does come calling again, but he said that they had not. For many in F1 joining Ferrari is considered a career move akin to throwing oneself on a bonfire (with a flameproof wallet) because the team seems to be unfixable. It is nearly a generation since Ferrari won its last Formula 1 title. "It is probably inevitable that Vasseur's future is beginning to be questioned. He has been there for a couple of seasons and things have not gone particularly well."
