BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – So really, how did you sleep last night? One locally owned family-run business truly wants to know.

Sleepy Hollow Sleep Shop has been asking that very question for more than four decades.
'My wife and I started this. We started in 1979, so we've been in business for 45 years,' said Sleepy Hollow Sleep Shop owner Bruce Berry. 'So when we say we're a local family-owned business, I mean, we really are.'
March is National Sleep Awareness Month, and Sleepy Hollow Sleep Shop has an immense selection of quality name-brand products and the experts to go with it. There's nowhere else that can truly help you get the best sleep of your life.
'The reason we've been around for so long is because, you know, we live this business. We do this 24/7,' said Berry. 'We really make sure that people find out exactly what are their special circumstances? What do they require? So we make sure that we're prepared to do that, to make them happy. We really personalize our delivery system. We really make sure that when we go out there, we're going to get it right the first time.'
It's truly amazing how much time we actually spend in bed sleeping and how many factors go into whether it's a good night's rest or not.
'There's no other product in the market, in retail, that you're going to engage with more than a mattress. You spend a third of your life sleeping,' said Sleepy Hollow Sleep Shop general manager Drew Carchedi. 'We want to ask the best questions to make sure that customers are getting something that's tailored to them. There's no one-size-fits-all. Factors we assess are sleep positions, whether you're a stomach sleeper, side sleeper, back sleeper. Pressure points, health concerns, back pain, sleep apnea and partner movement.'
When you go to Sleepy Hollow Sleep Shop, you're dealing with people who have extensive training when it comes to getting the best fit for you. The shop has nearly 90 different mattresses to choose from with five major manufacturers.
'We have the best sales staff in the area,' said Carchedi. 'They're not only knowledgeable about our products, but they're also passionate about helping people find a good value.'
'We have an extensive training period to bring people up to speed. Our manufacturers come in and update us on any new technology,' said Berry. 'Like any industry, we continue to improve. We only have major manufacturers, but we have the people who've been in the industry for many, many years. They've had the experience to bring the product and continue to improve those products over the many years they've been in business.'
At Sleepy Hollow Sleep Shop, you're going to find the most innovative and up-to-date technology in the industry like adjustable power bases you can adjust to get just the right sleeping surface.
'Almost every single mattress in the store, we can add movement to. What that's going to do is it's going to open up pathways for breathing, whether you have sleep apnea, circulatory issues, snoring,' said Carchedi. 'Having the bed up, just even a couple inches is going to take 15 pounds of pressure off your breathing. Having the legs up gives the sleeper much more benefits with circulatory issues. There's also features like zero gravity which is going to give you that weightless feeling with no pressures on your spine.'
And when it comes to a good night's sleep, the kind of pillows you use are just as important.
'Pillows are so important because it's 20% of the sleep surface. It practically is a bed for your head,' said Carchedi. 'Finding the right pillow is also like finding the right mattress.'
During National Sleep Awareness Month, Sleepy Hollow Sleep Shop is having a spring sale on Beautyrest Black, select mattresses, and adjustable bed sets.
'Serta Perfect Sleeper is hundreds of dollars off right now. Simmons Beautyrest Black, which is a luxury line bed, you can save up to $1,000 on a Beautyrest black right now,' said Carchedi. 'We want to invite our customers that come in and try the mattresses out, engage with our salespeople.'
Simmons Beautyrest Black has its own triple braided coil which is touted as the strongest coil in the industry.
'It's three times as strong. It's going to last three times as long. Then you get into the luxury upholstery on it. It's cool to the touch. It's spun with some of the best fibers in the industry, some of the best foams, air-cooled memory foam,' said Carchedi. 'Then the top is actually a plant-based cooling technology.'
Sleepy Hollow Sleep Shop's mission is making sure a customer is aligned with the proper technology, whether it's a foam mattress, a conventional innerspring mattress or a hybrid, which is a wildly popular mattress right now. There's even a bed perfect for couples who have different sleeping patterns and needs.
'Tempur-Pedic has really been the innovator in the industry as far as foam. This is a dual Tempur-Pedic,' said Carchedi. 'Let's say for a partner who wants to be sitting up working while the other one wants to be in a flat position, we can have a fully customizable sleep experience for the customer now. This Ergo has a host of different features, not just raising the head up, the feet up. It also has a massage feature in there. There's some white scape sound noises.'
You also want your sleep environment to be cool.
'These mattresses now, especially with the Tempur-breeze technology, make it eight degrees. sleep surface cooler,' said Carchedi. 'It dissipates the heat really well and it stays cooler throughout the course of the night, too.'
It is especially important when it comes to mattresses and pillows to be able to touch and see what you are buying before you make a decision.
'Buying at a retail location is so important. We've all heard the horror stories of somebody buying online. It's not the expectations of a consumer, whether the product was despect, meaning they took out a lot of the quality ingredients to fit a price range that's attractive,' said Carchedi. 'Coming into the store, the customer ultimately engages with the product, they know more about the product.'
Sleepy Hollow Sleep Shop also cares about giving you the best value with its free set up and delivery and special financing.
'You know, if you're just starting out, we understand that. We did, too. So, we have a mattress for every price range,' said Berry. 'We specifically do this. This is all we do and we're really, really good at it.'

New Youngstown resident wins $300K lottery prize

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A woman from Youngstown is richer after winning the jackpot in an Ohio Lottery scratch-off game. The woman won the top prize of $300,000 on the game Special Edition Cashword. The ticket was sold in January. The winner is originally from New Jersey but moved to Youngstown with her fiancé for his job in late 2024, according to the Ohio Lottery Commission. The woman told lottery officials that her fiancé bought her five $5 scratch-offs at a gas station, and she won $15. She left to visit family in New Jersey and when she got back, she ended up spending her winnings on three more tickets at Certified Oil on North Canfield Niles Road in Austintown. 'Something told me to get three Cashwords,' she told the commission. One of the tickets was the $300,000 winner, but she thought she had only won $5,000 because she couldn't find the 10th word in the game, so she scanned the ticket and the app showed the message, 'Congratulations! You won $300,000!' The woman said she plans to use the winnings to go on vacation and treat her fiancé. After mandatory state and federal taxes totaling 28%, she will receive $216,000. Special Edition Cashword is a $5 ticket with a top prize of $300,000. As of July 15, there are three top prizes remaining in the game. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
