IU Indianapolis hires Ben Howlett as coach after dominant run at Division II West Liberty
Howlett replaces Paul Corsaro, who was fired May 13 for what the university said was his treatment of players during his only season with the Jaguars.

Howlett was 217-37 at West Liberty with eight straight Mountain East Conference regular-season titles and eight straight NCAA Tournament appearances. His 2023 team reached the Division II championship game.
West Liberty averaged 100.2 points per game last season and finished 30-5.
IU Indy was 10-24 overall and 6-14 in the Horizon League last season.

Where will this former Tar Heel play his first season of professional basketball? The North Carolina Tar Heels barely crept into March Madness this year, much to the anger of college basketball analysts. After getting blown out at Duke and Clemson to open February, plus a near-loss to Pitt at home, UNC needed to win virtually every game for a shot at the NCAA Tournament. North Carolina then embarked on a 6-game winning streak, nearly extending that by a seventh game in its regular-season finale against the Blue Devils. The Tar Heels then beat Notre Dame and Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament, setting up a rematch with Duke, which was enough for a bid in college basketball's most prestigious postseason tournament. A huge factor in UNC making that late-season run was rarely-utilized power forward Jae'Lyn Withers, whose basketball career will now continue overseas. On Wednesday afternoon, Withers signed a 1-year deal with Dutch club Heroes Den Bosch, which plays at the highest tier of professional basketball in the Netherlands. Withers will be joining a championship team in Heroes Den Bosch, which won the past two Dutch Cups as members of the BNXT League. Withers only won one title at North Carolina, which captured the 2024 ACC Regular Season Championship. Withers spent most of his Tar Heels career coming off the bench, starting just 23 of 74 games for Hubert Davis, but proved to be a real difference-maker in February and March. Withers scored a career-high 21 points – on seven made 3-pointers – in UNC's second round ACC Tournament game against Notre Dame, his fifth time in eight days reaching double-digits. On Feb. 22 in an 81-66 win against Virginia, Withers recorded his second double-double of the year, scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Seven days later, Withers scored 11 points and grabbed 10 boards in a 92-73 victory against Miami. Now playing overseas, Withers has a great chance to continue his late-season from North Carolina's most recent run to March Madness. MSU basketball drops in updated 'Bracketology' from ESPN's Joe Lunardi
We are months away from tipping off the next college basketball season, but, hey, it's never too early for bracketology, right? ESPN's Joe Lunardi has released an updated batch of bracketology for the 2026 NCAA Tournament and to no surprise Michigan State is safely in the field of 68. But the Spartans did slip since the last time Lunardi released a bracket projection earlier this offseason. Lunardi currently has Michigan State as the No. 5 seed in the East Region with a first round matchup against Missouri Valley Conference champion Illinois State in Buffalo. In this projected bracket, Michigan State would face the winner of No. 4 seed Arkansas and No. 13 seed Miami (OH) should they knock off Illinois State in the first round. Michigan State is looking to continue the hot play from last year's Big Ten championship season and Elite Eight finish next season. The Spartans have widely been projected as a top 25 team in the preseason polls for next year so Lunardi's projection of a No. 5 seed is aligned with the national media. Insider: Cronin's Never Had a Point Guard Like This
No player in college basketball's transfer portal raised his new team's ceiling quite like New Mexico transfer point guard Donovan Dent did to the UCLA Bruins. Not only did he raise Mick Cronin's squad's ceiling, he impressed a ton of national media pundits, including CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, who came away from his Westwood visit thoroughly impressed and lamented Dent as one of Cronin's best point guards ever. "Mick Cronin has been coaching a long time, but he has never had a point guard as a head coach with the ceiling and passing capabilities of New Mexico transfer, Donovan Dent," Rothstein said in his reaction to UCLA on X (formerly Twitter). "[Dent] might be pound-for-pound, inch-for-inch, a top two point guard in college basketball in 25-26, along with Purdue's Braden Smith." Dent addresses a major issue Cronin's Bruins had (especially) down the stretch of last season -- offensive efficiency and creation. Bowing out of the NCAA Tournament in the second round to Tennessee, Cronin new exactly what needed to be addressed and he found the perfect solution in the SoCal kid. After finishing their first season in the Big Ten Conference with a 23-11 record UCLA's trajectory is looking up for next season. UCLA finished the season with the 164th overall offense with similar low rankings in field goal percentage, 3-point percentage and free throw shooting. With Dent addressing a dire need for improvement offensively, the Bruins are primed to build off the momentum of their inaugural season in the Big Ten by proving to be a true contender in the college basketball stratosphere. In an interview on the Big Ten Network, Bruins coach Mick Cronin had high praise for the former New Mexico guard. "The Mountain West was a tough league," Cronin said. "At the end of the year (it took Maryland) everything they had, a buzzer-beater to beat Colorado State. We had to play Utah State in the tournament. There's some good teams in that league and [Dent] was far and away the best player in that conference. "Point guard's a very position. It just makes your life a lot easier if you have a guy with the ball that can really do a lot of things."
