Investigation complete, no more arrests for attempted murder of advocate Coreth Naudé
The investigation into advocate Coreth Naudé's attempted murder is complete.
Two men have been accused of the crime and no more arrests were made.
The case has been postponed for the prosecution's decision.
Police have completed their investigation into the attempted murder of senior advocate Coreth Naudé, who represented SARS in a tax inquiry involving controversial businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize, and no further arrests have been made.
This after earlier indications that there was a possibility of more arrests.
The attempted murder accused, Siyanda Emmanual Mbulwana and Mcebisi Corlen Runeyi, were back in the dock of the Durban Magistrate's Court on Wednesday after their arrest on 19 December in the Western Cape.
Naudé was shot in the neck and face at the entrance of Premier Hotel Umhlanga, north of Durban, on 18 July 2024.
After she was shot, she managed to drive onto the hotel premises. There she received emergency medical attention before she was rushed to the hospital.
During the accused's bail application, which was unsuccessful, it was revealed that CCTV footage of the crime scene captured both of them clearly.
Mbulwana was also pointed out during an identity parade, the court heard.
But the accused denied committing the attempted murder and claimed they were on holiday in Durban at the time.
They claimed they were mistaken for the perpetrators.
At the time, the State revealed that detectives were analysing cellphone records that could lead to the arrest of two more people.
But when they appeared in court on Wednesday, no one else was in the dock with them.
'Investigations are now complete in the matter. May it be adjourned for a decision from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP),' prosecutor Carlson Govender told the court on Wednesday.
Magistrate Ashwin Singh postponed the case to 13 June.
Mbulwana and Runeyi, both from Cape Town, are charged with conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and possession of a semi-automatic firearm.
It is alleged that they flew from Cape Town to Durban the day before the shooting.
The State is armed with cellphone evidence that allegedly places them at the scene of the crime at the time that it happened, and places them where the getaway vehicle was when it was captured on CCTV footage at a fast-food establishment in the Durban CBD.
In the bail application, the prosecution put on record that both accused had previous brushes with the law.
The prosecution said Mbulwana was convicted of a 2016 Khayelitsha assault and had a pending 2023 case for possession of an unlicensed firearm in Kleinveli.
It also emerged at the time that Runeyi had warrants of arrest for motor vehicle theft.
Runeyi's criminal record also reflected four withdrawn cases for possession of housebreaking equipment, public violence, and robbery.

Another 2 ‘hitmen' arrested for the murder of Fort Hare vice-chancellor's bodyguard
Police have arrested another two suspected hitmen involved in the 2023 murder of Fort Hare vice-chancellor Sakhele Buhlungu's bodyguard. Mboneli Vesele was shot and killed while inside a vehicle waiting for Buhlungu outside his home in the Eastern Cape. In total, 12 suspects have now been arrested for the murder. Two more suspected hitmen have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of Fort Hare University vice-chancellor Sakhele Buhlungu's bodyguard, Mboneli Vesele. A third alleged hitman, Siphiwo Jejane, is still on the run, according to police. Vesele was shot and killed inside a vehicle while waiting for Buhlungu outside his home in the Eastern Cape on 6 January 2023. National police commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, said the South African Police Service (SAPS) published the alleged hitmen's pictures in November last year, and requested the public's help in tracking down the wanted suspects after obtaining a J50 warrant of arrest for Bafana Chiliza, Nkosiyazi 'Dipopoz' Maphumulo, and Siphiwo 'Spijojo' Jejane. Just over a week ago, on 21 June 2025, police investigators proceeded to Zakkariya Park in Johannesburg to effect the arrests, following intelligence and information from members of the public. 'The SAPS confirms Bafana Chiliza and Nkosiyazi Maphumulo are in custody and will be charged accordingly,' said Masemola. He commended the investigating team for working tirelessly to apprehend all those behind the killings at Fort Hare University. 'Members of the public play a significant role in assisting the work of the police in apprehending wanted suspects. We thank all stakeholders for playing their part', said Masemola. Police also thanked the media, social media community and community members for assisting police investigators to track down the two hitmen linked to the murder. A total of 12 people have now been arrested in connection with the Fort Hare murder.

‘How did you afford a car?': Cashier's joy becomes nightmare after boss demands bank records
A Maitland petrol station cashier was told to resign or work as a petrol attendant after her boss questioned how she could afford a car on her salary. The woman says her boss demanded to see her bank statements and emailed them to himself. The National Insourced Workers Union says forcing an employee to resign over a personal purchase is illegal and requested formal documentation from the employer. What was meant to be a moment of celebration quickly became a distressing ordeal for 28-year-old Eza Limelintaka, a cashier at Shell Garage in Maitland, Cape Town. After nine months of diligently saving and securing a bank loan, she proudly bought a second-hand vehicle. But instead of congratulations, her boss allegedly became suspicious. 'He asked how I could afford a car on my salary and demanded access to my bank account,' Limelintaka told News24. 'He then emailed my bank statements to himself. I stood there watching him go through my finances. He found nothing suspicious but still said he no longer trusted me.' She said when she asked whether any money was missing from the business or if she was suspected of theft, her employer said no but claimed he was 'uncomfortable' with her continuing in her cashier role. According to Limelintaka, he then gave her an ultimatum: work outside as a petrol attendant or resign. 'I refused. I was hired as a cashier and have done nothing wrong,' she said. Limelintaka was then told to go home and 'consider her options'. She said her till was closed, and her work halted. 'I had hoped the car would help me run a side hustle and keep working. Now it feels like I'm being punished for trying to improve my life.' The National Insourced Workers Union has taken up her case. Siviwe Shiyeni's representative said the union contacted her employer and requested documents, including her employment contract and duty roster. 'They're trying to force her to resign under duress, which is unlawful,' added Shiyeni. 'We have advised her to report for duty. If the employer intends to change her role, they must put it in writing.' In response to queries from News24, Berkley Motors, the company that runs the garage, denied any wrongdoing. 'Nothing was done without consent, and discussions are ongoing. She has left out many facts that were stated. Nobody was accused of anything, and she has not been fired,' it said. 'Now that she has falsely accused the company of improper procedures, due diligence can be followed accordingly.' When asked what prompted the investigation into Limelintaka's finances, Berkley Motors declined to answer, citing the issue as an internal matter. Limelintaka said when she returned to work on Monday, her employer told her she had the right to refuse him access to her bank account and claimed he had received a 'tip-off' that she was planning to steal from the company. He then offered her two weeks of paid leave while the police investigated the alleged tip-off. Limelintaka declined the leave offer and requested that all communication and decisions be formally documented.
