NAVI MUMBAI: A day trip to the Kashid beach in Murud taluka, ended in tragedy after 20-year-old Tanishk Malhotra, a student from Pune, drowned here on July 1. His body was recovered on Wednesday after a 43-hour-long search operation, which included the use of thermal drones and helicopters to scan the area, said officials. Tanishk had arrived at Kashid with his friends Mark Milton, Varun Tiwari, and Punya Patil, all final-year undergraduate students from the city. The group entered the sea for a swim but misjudged the depth and the strength of the waves. While the others managed to return safely to the shore, Tanishk was pulled under by strong currents and went missing.
Rescue efforts were launched by the Murud police, coast guard, local lifeguards, Sahyadri Vanyajiv Rakshanartha Samajik Sanstha (SVRS) team, and other emergency services.
'Tanishk's body was located at around 7:45 am,' said Dahimkar. His remains were later sent to Murud Rural Hospital for further procedures.

(HT Photo) ACB officials said the accused Dr Jai Bhagwan Jatain was taking bribe from the complainant at his official residence in Palwal late Thursday complainant — along with three friends — had set up a private hospital in Palwal around four months back, a senior ACB official said. 'However, Jatain had threatened him to get the hospital shut multiple times citing loopholes in infrastructure,' the official the CMO demanded ₹15 lakh as bribe from the hospital owner to allow him run the hospital 'smoothly without interruption'. Jatain was handed over ₹6 lakh at his official residence early last month. The official informed that ₹3 lakh was also recovered from his residence during the raid on Thursday. The CMO had also told the complainant that he was asking for the money as he has to pay those above him in the hierarchy too. 'On Wednesday, the complainant had paid Jatain an additional ₹1 lakh cash and expressed his inability to pay the rest of the money. But the CMO put pressure on him to clear the pending ₹8 lakh immediately, following which he approached the ACB,' an official involved in the investigation said. Officials said an FIR was registered early on Thursday against Jatain under Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 308 (2) (extortion) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at ACB police station in Faridabad. A team reached the CMO's residence where the bribe money was to be handed over, and he was arrested. Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Arjun Rathi, ACB (Faridabad unit) said Jatain was produced before a court in Palwal on Friday evening for being taken on police-remand. Jatain has earlier been posted as CMO in Nuh and other districts too and had nearly two years left for his superannuation, the DSP said.

They noticed a suspicious woman standing near the bridge on the main GT Road, close to the Budhel power grid. On spotting the police vehicle, the woman threw away a black envelope and tried to flee. She was apprehended after the cops checked the packet that had 255-gm heroin in it. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act at the Sudhar police station. Police officials further noted that the accused was produced in court, after which police remand was obtained for further investigation.

A jailed gangster in Delhi got a five-hour parole on Friday to attend his wedding in the Narela area amid tight security. Amit has been charged with several crimes, including charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), with the Delhi Police once announcing a reward of ₹2 lakh for information leading to his arrest. He has also been named in a murder case in Alipur area of the capital, said to be a revenge killing for Tillu Tajpuriya's death and the 2018 murder of Gogi's close aide Monu Nepali near Rohini court. In June this year, Kala Jathedi, was granted jail parole to undergo a medical process related to in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) for child following permission granted by a Delhi court. Earlier this week, jailed gangster Neeraj Bawana was granted custody parole for a day to visit his ailing wife at a hospital in Shadipur in Delhi.
