New Racing Bulls F1 team boss ‘shocked' after ‘amazing' promotion
Alan Permane admitted he was 'shocked' after being announced as Racing Bulls' new team principal following Christian Horner 's exit at Red Bull. The domino effect of Horner being relieved of his duties saw Laurent Mekies – formerly RB team principal – promoted to Red Bull F1 CEO. Permane, who was previously racing director at RB, is now the team boss. The 58-year-old was previously with Alpine, in all its previous guises including championship-winning seasons with Benetton and Renault, for 34 years before being let go in July 2023. The engineer joined Racing Bulls at the start of last season. 'It's amazing that they feel I'm capable and have the potential to lead this team. 'I deeply thank the Red Bull Austria senior management, Oliver Mintzlaff and Helmut Marko, and of course Laurent for recommending me, pushing me forward, his belief in me as well. It's been a great week.' Racing Bulls are currently seventh in the constructors' championship and have two young talents in Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar in the cockpit. Yuki Tsunoda was previously with the team for four years before being promoted in March to replace Lawson, dropped by Red Bull after just two races. 'It's a great team and I know that the senior Red Bull guys are extremely happy with the way the team is being run,' Permane added. 'They're very happy with our competitiveness. 'The target is to be top of the midfield, and we are certainly in a battle for that and we'll continue that fight throughout this year.' The next race of the 2025 season is the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend (25-27 July).

Christian Horner's sacking no surprise given Red Bull ‘drama'
McLaren chief executive Zak Brown says he was not surprised by Christian Horner's sacking due to the ongoing 'drama' at Red Bull. Horner's tenure as boss of Red Bull was dramatically brought to an end on July 9, ending a 20-year chapter in charge of a team he led to 14 world championships. Advertisement His departure came 17 months after he was accused by a female staff member of 'inappropriate behaviour'. Horner, 51, always denied the claims and was twice exonerated. Red Bull have struggled on the track this season, with four-time world champion Max Verstappen, who is 69 points off the title pace ahead of this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix, consistently linked with a move away from the team. Brown was not surprised by Horner's departure (David Davies/PA) Against that backdrop, Brown, whose McLaren team lead the way in both constructors' and drivers' championships, says he was not shocked to see Horner dismissed. 'I'm maybe (surprised by) the timing, but not the result,' Brown told Canadian TV channel TSN. Advertisement 'I think there's been a lot of drama there the last couple of years and it doesn't seem like that drama has been calming down – maybe been getting worse.' Verstappen has a contract, which includes a performance-related release clause, until 2028, but Mercedes are interested in signing him and the Dutchman has been hesitant to say he will see out his Red Bull deal. Verstappen's future has dominated the agenda this season. Photo: David Davies/PA. Horner was the youngest F1 team principal when he took charge of the team in 2005 and has overseen two spells of dominance, with Sebastian Vettel and Verstappen both winning four consecutive drivers' titles. Brown believes Horner could return to motorsport in the future, adding: 'Given his age and his history in motor racing, I'd be surprised if he didn't show up somewhere in motor racing. Advertisement 'But I don't know his other interests, whether he wants to go run a football team or what have you. So, we'll see.'

'He's clearly on a mission' - your views on Nunez
We asked for your views on whether Darwin Nunez still has a part to play at Liverpool this season. The forward scored a hat-trick against Stoke in a pre-season friendly on Sunday and found the net when the Reds beat Preston in a friendly in the previous are some of your comments:Andy: I would definitely keep Nunez for at least another season. The boy's a Nunez should stay, he contributed a lot to our achievement in the Premier League and is currently our main striker. Hugo Ekitike has not played in the Premier League. He will first need to adapt to our system of play which Nunez already If we can't get rid of him he's good to have on the I've been saying for some time that all Nunez needs is someone to trust him and push him forward. In Florian Wirtz, I believe Liverpool have found that person. It would be wrong of Arne Slot to offload Nunez at this stage. He's proven he can get into great areas to score and my guess is that he'll be used more as his confidence and subsequent goals increase. Nunez seems clearly on a mission and I think he's going to achieve it this Keep him, looks like he has settled at last.A D Hilder: In my mind Darwin Nunez should stay. He's had his problems in front of goal but is he now coming good? Liverpool should keep Darwin until at least January to see how he performs. Replacing him with Isak is a lot of S: While I appreciate he is getting goals, he has proven that he fluffs his lines against the bigger teams. No ill will, but he needs to progress his career It's a pity it hasn't worked out as we had all hoped it would have. The truth is we can't rely on him scoring goals especially in those tight games where we require a match-winning goal. I feel it's time for him to move on and enjoy his football elsewhere. He needs to rebuild his confidence.
