Fire hit Blaenau Ffestiniog hotel 'looted'
The owners of a hotel hit by a devastating fire say the building was "looted" on Sunday night. Fire crews were scrambled to the Queens Hotel in Blaenau Ffestiniog shortly before 11.10am on Saturday as flames took hold of the building.
Six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform battled the blaze with roads closed off while emergency services worked at the scene. Everyone was safely evacuated but the fire has caused extensive damage to the property.
It has been devastating for owner Angi Scott and all the staff affected. She said they had "lost everything, except each other".
The community has rallied around them with a Gofundme set up to raise money - alongside hundreds of messages and offers of support.
But last night the hotel hit out on social media after saying someone had "looted" the burnt out property.
They posted on Facebook: "To whoever looted queens last night, the CCTV is now with police, security in building tonight and not only is the building dangerous, as a family we've lost everything, do you really want to be the person that takes the last little bit we have.
"Can people please let us know if there is anyone in there seen without a hard hat. We will be pressing charges."
Local residents were horrified at the news. One person said: "How low can you get?"
Another added: "How low can some people go! To take advantage of someone's loss and their livelihood. Shame on whoever did this."
One person posted: "Omg this is disgusting, vile."
North Wales Police have been asked to comment.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 11:09am on Saturday, 5th of July we were called to a fire in Blaenau Ffestiniog. Multiple crews and an Aerial Ladder Platform appliance attended the incident.
"The fire caused substantial damage to the property; however all guests and staff were evacuated safely after alarms were activated. Due to the extent of the damage, we are currently unable to carry out a more detailed fire investigation until a structural engineer has assessed the building and confirmed it is safe to enter. Now days later, Kyler's devastated dad, says he wants to speak out as he sent his condolences to Dr Gomo's family. Kenny said: 'I send my condolences to her family, her daughter, her close friends. 'I've just been praying every single hour that people could find the strength to get through this, whether they do or not, I just hope they've got some kind of support network, because it's absolutely horrendous. ' He added: 'I'm trying to get through the hours here. 'We've been left utterly devastated.' Originally from Zimbabwe, Dr Gomo worked for Scottish Water and graduated with a PhD in Geography and Environmental Science from the University of Dundee. A university spokesperson described her death as a 'truly shocking event'. This week we told how Dr Gomo's brother revealed his sister had been planning her big 40th celebrations in just a few weeks' time. Regis Nyantsanza spoke from Zimbabwe paying a loving tribute to his sister, the eldest of four siblings, describing her as the"deputy parent" of the family. Regis said: "Two weeks ago we were laughing about throwing her a big 40th birthday bash but she said she had achieved most of what she wanted. After all the struggle she had everything she wanted and so she was going to have a quiet celebration." "It will be particularly distressing for those who knew and worked with Fortune throughout her time as a PhD student and postdoctoral research assistant in Geography, and for all of those in our close-knit community of African colleagues and students. 'Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this tragic time.'

A section of the M4 is reported to be completely shut due to an ongoing incident. CCTV footage shared by Queensland Police on Wednesday (9 July) shows an unidentified man walking through the middle of the premises with a trolley and suitcase. The man can be seen approaching a common area with three separate stalls that had been covered up for the night on Monday (7 July). He then begins removing items from the stalls, with police later revealing that he stole 53 shoes, all of which were for right feet.
