KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- IGB Real Estate Investment Trust (IGB REIT) has proposed to acquire The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey (MVS Mall) in Johor Bahru for RM2.65 billion.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, IGB REIT said the acquisition will be undertaken by MTrustee Bhd, acting as trustee for and on behalf of IGB REIT, from Southkey Megamall Sdn Bhd (SMSB).
The proposed acquisition includes the mall, its operational assets, tenancy agreements, essential contracts and related components, it said.
'MVS Mall comprises five levels of retail mall with a mezzanine floor, together with eight levels of split-level elevated car parks and two levels of basement car parks,' it said.
IGB REIT said the purchase consideration will be settled via a combination of RM1 billion in cash and RM1.65 billion through the issuance of new IGB REIT units.
The acquisition is not expected to have any material effect on IGB REIT's earnings, earnings per unit and distributable income per unit for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2025, as the deal is only expected to be implemented and completed in the fourth quarter of 2025, it said.
In a separate statement, IGB REIT said MVS Mall would be a new addition to its portfolio, with expectations of stable recurring income and potential for future growth.
'This is underpinned by its prime location within the integrated Mid Valley Southkey development in Johor Bahru, a key economic zone.
'MVS Mall also features a robust tenant mix, which includes anchor tenants such as Sogo, Village Grocer, Golden Screen Cinemas, Aurum Theatre and MVEC Exhibition Hall,' it added.

MIGHT, Universities Collaborate To Advance REE As Malaysia's Next Flagship Industry

KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- The collaboration between the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and two Public Higher Education Institutions in research and development (R&D), innovation, and commercialisation of Rare Earth Element (REE) marks a major step towards leading REE as Malaysia's flagship industry. MIGHT President and Chief Executive Officer Rushdi Abdul Rahim said the collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) and Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) was also a major step for Malaysia to establish technology sovereignty in the area with an interconnected ecosystem. 'The initiative also aims to shape national priorities on REE, including talent development and capability building, knowledge exchange, research expertise and technical resources to support mutual research, innovation, and capacity-building initiatives,' he was quoted as saying in a statement issued by MIGHT. The tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for strategic cooperation was signed today by Rushdi on behalf of MIGHT, while vice-chancellors Prof Dr Arham Abdullah and Prof Dr Yatimah Alias represented UMK and UMPSA, respectively. The three-year collaboration aims to boost national-level research initiatives and enhance academic curricula and training programmes in REE and advanced materials. These will focus on innovations with strong potential for intellectual property generation and future commercialisation. According to the statement, Malaysia possesses significant REE resources, estimated at 16.1 million metric tonnes of non-radioactive REEs (NR-REEs), valued at RM1 trillion, positioning the country among the leaders in the Southeast Asian region alongside Vietnam and Myanmar. It said by the year 2030, the expected downstream production of Malaysia's non-radioactive REEs is projected to generate RM13.59 billion in revenue, primarily from the manufacturing of super magnets and electric motors. In the same statement, Prof Yatimah noted that such projections raise concerns regarding sustainability, supply chain resilience, and environmental impact, thus calling for a more responsible path for REE industry development. 'Since 2013, UMPSA's Centre for Sustainability of Mineral and Resource Recovery Technology (SMAaRRT) has been developing capabilities across the full REE value chain, ranging from soil leaching, solvent extraction, impurity removal to pilot-scale technology validation.

MOT Appoints Four Firms Including Carsome To Expand Vehicle Ownership Inspection Services

The Transport Ministry (MOT) has appointed four companies to provide Change of Ownership Inspection services for private vehicles, a move aimed at easing congestion and improving access to motor vehicle inspection centres. Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the initiative is part of the government's effort to liberalise the Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre segment, which was previously monopolised by Puspakom. 'This will offer the public more convenient options for ownership transfer inspections without crowding existing centres that also handle heavy vehicles,' Loke said. The newly appointed firms, Carro Technology Sdn Bhd, Carsome Academy Sdn Bhd, Wawasan Bintang Sdn Bhd and Beriman Gold Sdn Bhd, have been granted 12 months to fulfil all regulatory and technical requirements before receiving their licenses to operate. The companies must meet stringent criteria, including a minimum RM1 million paid-up capital, local ownership, infrastructure readiness, integration with the MySIKAP system and ISO/IEC 17020:2012 compliance. All inspection personnel must also be accredited by the Road Transport Department. Loke emphasised that the shift from a single-player concession to a multi-license model will foster healthy competition, enhance service quality and support future policy expansions. Related

Four firms appointed for private vehicle ownership inspections in Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Transport has appointed four companies to conduct Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre (PPKM) services specifically for Change of Ownership Inspections (M.V.15) for private vehicles. Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook stated that this move aims to expand inspection service availability and ease public access. Previously, vehicle owners had only one option—PUSPAKOM—for mandatory inspections before selling or buying used cars. With the new appointments, the public can choose from multiple service providers, reducing congestion at existing centres. The four selected companies are Carro Technology Sdn Bhd, Carsome Academy Sdn Bhd, Wawasan Bintang Sdn Bhd, and Beriman Gold Sdn Bhd. The decision follows a Cabinet Meeting agreement in March 2023 to open vehicle inspection services to qualified firms under the Road Transport Act 1987. Each company has 12 months to meet licensing conditions, including a minimum paid-up capital of RM1 million, local ownership, and facility readiness. The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will monitor compliance before granting operating licenses. Key requirements include infrastructure development, inspection equipment, MySIKAP system integration, and JPJ-accredited inspectors. Companies involved in used car sales must maintain dedicated inspection lanes and staff, adhering to ISO/IEC 17020:2012 standards. Loke emphasised that expanding PPKM services promotes competition and improves inspection quality for road safety. The shift from a single-player concession to a multi-licensing system aligns with current policies. The ministry may also consider mandatory motorcycle inspections for ownership transfers in the future. - Bernama
