General Daily Insight for July 21, 2025
Attempting to take massive steps forward is a quick way to stumble or fall. Still, the sensitive Moon supports playful Mercury, bringing good conversations, opportunities for study or travel, and the words to speak our feelings. The Moon then joins friendly Venus at 2:23 am EDT, encouraging friendships — and other relationships — to flourish. Later, however, when the Moon jabs at impatient Mars, frustration or impulsive actions could threaten the newfound harmony we've created. Let's take a deep breath and let our progress remain.
Aries
March 21 – April 19
Kind words can have a bigger impact than ever. You may find that you're able to usher in positive relationship and friendship vibes as you speak optimism over yourself and the people around you, bringing bright energy into what otherwise would be a frustrating time. The more that you hope for the best (while preparing for the worst), the more likely you are to succeed in a way that benefits everyone involved. Be the head cheerleader you'd want to see on the sidelines!
Taurus
April 20 – May 20
Gratitude inspires security. Making an effort to be supportive of everyone in your home is currently the ideal way to prepare yourself for the future without stressing out about it. Focusing on the present and keeping track of what makes you feel comfortable and happy in each moment is likely to be the best method of finding stability. Risking it all to go for gold and potentially sacrificing what you already have is less likely to pay off. Appreciating your blessings is key.
Gemini
May 21 – June 20
A loving perspective can transform how you see yourself. Features you typically criticize — be it your personality, appearance, or current life stage — might be seen in a new light. You might receive a compliment from someone who is perceiving you through a lens you'd never imagined could apply to you. If this interaction inspires you to appreciate opposing traits of theirs, go ahead and share your admiration. Regardless, the person you are now is inherently worthy; embrace yourself with grace.
Cancer
June 21 – July 22
You're creating balance by taking care of yourself. What, specifically, do you need to feel your best? You could take some time alone to meditate and get in touch with your inner self — perhaps you'd prefer getting a massage or spa treatment and letting all the stress melt away. Whatever self-care means to you, indulge yourself in that without worrying about missing out on something that you've been invited to. Chances are high that you'll gain more from a little soulful solitude.
Leo
July 23 – August 22
Your loved ones love you, even when you're struggling. Getting together with a group of friends or family members, listening to each other's woes and laughing at each other's funny stories, can heal you as well as them. Sharing your highs and lows with each other should let everyone feel like their burdens are a little lighter and your bonds are a little stronger. Don't be afraid to reach out and connect with the people around you. You might even make some new friends!
Virgo
August 23 – September 22
Tell the world who you are! There is potential for you to come across as brash, especially if you're not thinking before you speak. That said, with the right approach, you can make significant headway when it comes to your career or reputation. If you want to get the word out about yourself, this is a great time to do so. Marketing, networking, and letting others know that you can handle the job should pay off tremendously. Show them what you can do.
Libra
September 23 – October 22
Mundane chains can't keep you bound for long! You may be in need of some fresh inspiration, and getting out of your usual surroundings is a great way to accomplish this. Seek out activities or locations that send excitement racing through your soul and set aside your everyday worries. As long as you're taking reasonable precautions, there's no need to catastrophize about hypothetical worst-case scenarios. Stop looking at the same four walls — jump up, get out there, and seize the day!
Scorpio
October 23 – November 21
Find your partner in crime. When someone really gets your vibe, you'll be able to understand each other on a much deeper level. It's perfectly normal if not everyone is on the same wavelength as you, but you deserve a friend who gets what you're saying. It might be that you share a niche hobby or specific work style. Whatever initially drew you two together, you both should benefit from having each other's backs right now. Go for quality, not quantity.
Sagittarius
November 22 – December 21
Equal footing makes all the difference. You might find that you're not able to control a situation in your ideal way. Specifically, watch out for someone who is not willing to complete your vision, though it may be reversed, where you're unwilling to follow instructions. When you are working side by side with someone, however, you'll be better set up to make the progress that you want. A hero and a sidekick are far less likely to succeed than a duo at the moment.
Capricorn
December 22 – January 19
Take today step by step. Striving to complete an impossible to-do list can actually stand in the way of you achieving your goals. In contrast, when you break it down into bite-size chunks and attack it in a measured, calculated way, you're practically unstoppable. Don't get frustrated with the number of tasks on your docket. Instead, think about each item one at a time, and don't worry about multitasking. Give each step your full attention, then cross it off and move on. You've got this!
Aquarius
January 20 – February 18
Listen to your gut. You are far more likely to pick the right risks to take today, but you still may be influenced by other people if you aren't fully in tune with your intuition. Letting other people make decisions for you is currently unlikely to lead to your success, so make sure that you're listening to your gut and not the urgent opinions around you. Your inner self potentially has the answers that you're seeking, even if they seem a little unorthodox.
Pisces
February 19 – March 20
Take in the beauty right in front of you. You may realize that the happiness you've been seeking is in your own backyard; it just takes some purposeful recognition to appreciate such simple pleasures. Maybe you've been watching what other people have been doing with their summer and feeling like your life is unexciting, but shifting your mindset can show you all the benefits you already have. There's so much to enjoy with the right perspective, so soak up every ounce of your local scenery!

Sports Fans Celebrating Tennis Legend Venus Williams On Tuesday

Sports Fans Celebrating Tennis Legend Venus Williams On Tuesday originally appeared on The Spun. Venus Williams announced this month that she'd compete in the DC Open. The 45-year-old tennis star hasn't competed in a tournament in over a year. Williams kicked off her run at the DC Open with an impressive doubles victory. She teamed up with fellow American tennis star Hailey Baptiste to take down Eugenie Bouchard and Clervie Ngounoue, 6-3, 6-1. "It's just nice to be able to play. Where I am at this year is so much different where I was at last year. It's night and day, being able to be here and prepare for the tournament as opposed to preparing for surgery a year ago," Williams said earlier this month. "At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter if your health is not there. So, it definitely put it in perspective for me and maybe made it easier to make the decision to maybe come back out here and maybe play even freer." Just in case a doubles victory wasn't enough to validate Williams' decision to return to competition, she took down Peyton Stearns in a singles match this Tuesday night, 6-3, 6-4. Stearns, the No. 35 ranked player in the world, simply no answer for Williams' power on the hard court. Immediately after Williams upset Stearns on Tuesday, fans showed their support for the seven-time Grand Slam champion. "Venus Williams….the woman that you are," one fan wrote on X. "It's definitely a pleasure to watch Venus Williams play tennis, seriously," a second fan commented. "Venus Williams displaying some incredible tennis tonight. First WTA match in 16 months, 45 years old, and slamming 121mph aces like it's just a regular day. Love to see it," a third fan said. "Venus Williams is 45-years-old and can still do this. Incredible," another person declared. Could this be the start of a career renaissance for Venus? Only time will tell, but she proved to the world that legends can never be counted out. Congratulations to Williams on this incredible Fans Celebrating Tennis Legend Venus Williams On Tuesday first appeared on The Spun on Jul 23, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 23, 2025, where it first appeared.

Elsbeth's Carrie Preston, 58, Talks Skin Cancer Diagnosis and Recovery

Best known for playing the charmingly-quirky sleuth Elsbeth on the hit CBS show of the same name, actress Carrie Preston, 58, recently revealed she was diagnosed with skin cancer after a mole on her cheek tested positive for basal cell carcinoma. Here, everything you need to know about her health scare and recovery. Plus a top dermatologist shares early warning signs of this common form of skin cancer and the most effective treatment options. Carrie Preston learned she had skin cancer while filming Elsbeth On the last day of shooting season two of Elsbeth, Preston learned a mole on her face was cancerous, she told Busy Phillips on her podcast Busy This Week. 'Everyone kept asking me what are you going to do on your hiatus [from the show],' she said. 'Just an hour prior, I had found out that a test I had done on a mole on my cheek was basal cell carcinoma… I didn't want to tell people because I was shocked and a little bit ashamed, a little bit like, what did I do wrong?' Her initial reaction to the diagnosis is a familiar one, notes board-certified and fellowship-trained cosmetic dermatologist Pooja Rambhia, MD, FAAD. 'It's common to see patients express guilt,' she confirms. 'But skin cancer is often the result of several factors, many of which are out of your control, like genetics, UV exposure decades earlier and skin type.' Luckily, the Emmy winner's misplaced sense of shame quickly yielded to the support of friends and colleagues, particularly her fellow actresses on set that day. "Within minutes these women just rallied around me" —Carrie Preston 'I thought let me talk to these women, and I was just honest: This just happened, and I've got to get this surgery—I'd never even heard of this procedure before called a Mohs,' she recalled. 'And these women just rallied around me… [guest star] Mary-Louise Parker was like, 'My friend just did that; let me get on the phone.' Within like five minutes I was talking to a doctor's office, and I had an appointment for the following week.' What is basal cell carcinoma? Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common type of skin cancer, accounting for about 80 percent of all skin cancer cases, reveals Dr. Rambhia. 'BCC typically appears on sun-exposed areas of the body, particularly the face, neck, ears, scalp, shoulders and back. On the face, it commonly occurs on the nose, forehead and cheeks, which aligns with Carrie Preston's experience.' Early skin cancer symptoms to watch for This type of skin cancer can present in several ways, Dr. Rambhia says. Symptoms of basal cell carcinoma may include: A pearly or waxy bump A flat, flesh-colored or brown scar-like lesion A bleeding or scabbing sore that heals and returns 'Sometimes [BCC] appears as a pink growth with a slightly elevated, rolled border and a crusted indentation in the center,' she adds. Unlike melanoma, which can spread aggressively throughout the body, BCC rarely metastasizes and is much less dangerous than other skin cancers like squamous cell carcinoma, she assures. 'The prognosis is excellent, with over 95 percent cure rates when treated promptly through surgical removal like Preston underwent,' Dr. Rambhia says. 'While BCC grows slowly and rarely spreads to other organs, it can cause significant local tissue damage if left untreated, making early detection and immediate medical attention crucial for the best outcomes.' How basal cell carcinoma is treated Preston admitted she had never heard of the procedure, called Mohs surgery, used to remove the cancerous mole, acknowledging it was a little more involved than she expected. What exactly does it entail? 'Mohs surgery is a precise technique where thin layers of skin are removed and examined under a microscope until no cancer cells remain—offering both the highest cure rate and maximal tissue preservation,' explains Dr. Rambhia. While this is one of the most common treatments, alternatives include standard surgical excision, topical treatments like imiquimod (a cream that boosts the immune system to kill abnormal cells), cryotherapy (freezing cancer cells) and radiation therapy, depending on the tumor's size, location and type, she adds. Preston is recovering from skin cancer surgery Describing her recovery, Preston told Phillips, 'I have a scar that's healing… so I have to wear these silicone scar strips.' Indeed, when it comes to minimizing scar tissue, early intervention makes a big difference. 'Gentle wound care, silicone gels and sun protection all help, but laser treatments—especially when started within the first few months [following surgery]—can dramatically improve the scar's appearance,' says Dr. Rambhia. 'Vascular lasers can reduce redness, while fractional lasers can smooth and soften texture, leading to a more refined cosmetic outcome,' she adds. Consult a cosmetic dermatologist to learn more. Not to be outdone by her fashion-forward Elsbeth character, Preston added that if she's going to wear something on her face, it's darn well going to be pretty. 'I went and got some jewels [adhesive gems for her scar strip]. I'm basically wearing what the kids wear to raves on my face,' she said with a laugh. How to prevent skin cancer Basal cell carcinoma is highly preventable with smart sun protection, promises Dr. Rambhia. 'Daily use of broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, wearing hats and protective clothing and avoiding tanning beds are key. Even incidental sun exposure—like walking the dog or sitting by a window—adds up over time,' she cautions. 'If something new, changing or non-healing shows up on your skin, it's time to see a board-certified dermatologist,' she adds. 'Early detection can make a world of difference.'
