Willy Wonka child star, 66, who clashed with Gene Wilder and vanished from Hollywood is unrecognizable

Daily Mail2 days ago
Fans of the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory were in for a nostalgic sugar rush when one of the film's golden ticket winners made a surprise public appearance - and looked nearly unrecognizable.
Now 66, the former child star played one of the five lucky kids who toured Gene Wilder's candy-colored chocolate factory in the beloved 1971 film based on Roald Dahl 's novel.
Clad in a laid-back red tee and jeans, the mystery man looked a world away from his on-screen alter ego - a brash, cowboy-costumed TV addict named Mike Teevee whose smart mouth often clashed with Wilder's famously wry Wonka.
Though he disappeared from Hollywood not long after the film's release to enjoy a 'normal' teenage life, he's popped up over recent years in casting gigs, commercials, and stage shows.
And, of course, at fan conventions celebrating the movie's other unforgettable lineup of characters: Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, and Charlie Bucket.
So… which golden ticket holder is it?

If you guessed Paris Themmen, you're absolutely right!
The 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory became an instant classic, beloved for its whimsical sets, dark humor, and Wilder's iconic performance as the mysterious candy-maker.
Themmen starred alongside fellow young actors Peter Ostrum as Charlie, Denise Nickerson as Violet, Julie Dawn Cole as Veruca, and Michael Bollner as Augustus.
Though it had a modest box office run at the time, the film later found massive success through home video and TV airings, earning its place as a pop culture staple.
Boston-born Themmen had already done some stage and commercial work before landing the role of television-mad Mike Teevee — but after Willy Wonka, he stepped away from acting as a teenager, saying he just wanted 'to be a kid.'
In adulthood, he returned to the entertainment industry here and there, taking on occasional TV roles and exploring work in film production and commercial casting.
Now Themmen signs autographs at fan conventions, runs a photography business, and makes sporadic appearances in commercials, stage productions, and television shows.
He also founded Access International, a travel service that arranged charter flights to Europe for backpackers.
Back in 2018, Themmen also made a surprise appearance as a contestant on Jeopardy! — but made no mention of his Willy Wonka past during the episode
Reflecting on his time filming in Munich with Gene Wilder and the rest of the cast, he told Collider:
Back in 2018, Themmen also made a surprise appearance as a contestant on Jeopardy! — but made no mention of his Willy Wonka past during the episode.
Instead, he introduced himself to Alex Trebek as an entrepreneur and avid backpacker.
He scored a Daily Double but ultimately finished in second place with $6,800.
Themmen currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife of nine years, Nikki Grillos.

Dave Portnoy reveals Barstool Sports passed on WNBA star Sophie Cunningham's podcast

Dave Portnoy is no stranger to partnering with athletes for Barstool Sports podcasts, but he recently turned down the chance to work with Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham. Cunningham, who has seen her fame skyrocket after teaming up with Caitlin Clark, recently announced a new podcast alongside Complex producer and 'Summer House' reality star West Wilson. And while Portnoy had the pair record a test episode for his company, the show ultimately landed at Colin Cowherd's 'The Volume' network after the Barstool boss felt his business was 'getting screwed' in negotiations. 'It wasn't so much her, any time I have to deal with agents, it's hard,' he revealed on 'The Unnamed Show.' 'I really thought we would be carrying so much of the weight, marketing, all this s***, and her focus wasn't going to be the podcast. It was just one amongst 9,000 things she was doing. And so it felt like we were getting screwed.' Portnoy added that the deal was nearly signed before he ultimately walked away. Dave Portnoy just revealed that he actually passed on Sophie Cunningham and West Wilson's new podcast. 🫖 — Page Six (@PageSix) August 4, 2025 'So now, I like her but I'm kind of rooting against her,' he said. After joining the Fever this offseason and teaming up with Clark, Cunningham has seen her fame rise massively, topping one million followers each on TikTok and Instagram and scoring an endorsement deal with Arby's of late. However, Portnoy revealed on 'Unnamed' that Cunningham wasn't the only athlete he recently passed on. He shared to co-hosts Ryan Whitney and Kirk Minihane that he was in talks to add a hockey show with NHL star brothers Brady and Matthew Tkachuk. Former NHL player Whitney, though, already hosts Barstool's hit hockey show 'Spittin Chiclets' alongside fellow ex-player Paul Bissonnette, and Portnoy ultimately decided not to go into business with the Tkachuks. 'Chiclets is huge, the No. 1 hockey podcast,' he said on 'Unnamed,' as reported by Awful Announcing. 'Is it like this enormous cash cow like [Pardon My Take']? 'No…Hockey isn't football. It just isn't. You don't have the advertising coming into it… If it was a football podcast, I'll keep adding football because advertisers can't get enough. Give me football. They're dying to spend on football. You don't have that in hockey.' He later continued: 'It's going to be a lot of stress in my life to not make a lot of money, but just have a cool podcast. At this point, is it worth it? And in the end, I don't think it is. It's just going to add f***ing a ton of stress.' Brady and Matthew, of the Senators and Panthers respectively, are both multi-time All-Stars but Portnoy evidently didn't think they would be a good enough investment for his company. Barstool already has (separate) shows with basketball player Patrick Beverley and former NFL star Arian Foster. The popular 'Bussin with the Boys' podcast, hosted by ex-NFL players Taylor Lewan and Will Compton, was also previously part of the Barstool network before departing the company in January.

Britney Spears shows off painful sunburn in a bright pink bikini

Britney Spears spent too much time in the sun and as a result got a nasty sunburn. The singer, 43, who nearly lost her eyebrows several months ago, shared some photos on social media Monday in which her usually fair skin was a bright as her pink string bikini. The Circus singer posed provocatively, pulling down one side of her bottoms, indicating she had been laying out in the nude as there were no tan lines. Her long, blond hair was styled away from her face in messy waves and she wore camera ready makeup with a red lip. The Oops!... I Did It Again singer was barefoot, but wore a thick black choker around her neck. The Billboard Music Award winner shared a cheeky snap of her bottom in a side shot which clearly showed the change in her skin tone. The photos were posted without comment and have since been deleted from her Instagram account. Spears, who has been diagnosed with anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder, allegedly had an outburst after she was prevented from lighting a cigarette on a public charter fright from San Lucas, Mexico to Los Angeles in May. Police bodycam footage obtained by Entertainment Tonight shows the pop diva peacefully deplaning in LA without incident. In the video, a police officer can be heard saying she 'didn't take her meds,' but no further action was taken. In July Spears told her fans in a social media post she had ' adopted a beautiful baby girl' named Lennon London Spears, which turned out to be a joke. An insider told Daily Mail she was simply 'trying to be funny' and garner a reaction. 'Britney was just having fun when she announced that she would be adopting a girl,' our source confirmed. 'She did it for a laugh, she isn't adopting a daughter, and it also doesn't mean anything else like her getting a dog. She was just trying to be funny and see who would bite.' The hitmaker is reportedly working on her relationship with her son Jayden, 18, with whom she has recently reunited. She shares the teen and his brother Sean Preston, 19, with ex-husband Kevin Federline. ''Jayden is her rock right now and if there was ever anything that broke this bond Britney would be crushed,' the insider said. 'He is all she talks about. She is helping his career and providing for him financially. He is living large now.' In the past, Jayden, has admitted to being embarrassed by his mother's social media posts. 'It's like almost as if she has to put something on Instagram to get attention,' he told ITV in 2022. 'This has gone on for years and years and years, and there's a high chance that this is never going to really stop, but I'm hoping for me, maybe she will.'

Shannen Doherty's Malibu mansion is listed for $10M... a year after she died from cancer

Shannen Doherty 's private estate is selling her Malibu mansion a year after she died from cancer. The impressive coastal property with views of the Pacific Ocean is being offered at $9,450,000. According to TMZ, the Charmed actress had this house for about 20 years before she passed away in July 2024. The home - which is being represented by Chris Cortazzo of Compass - is roomy with 5,400 square feet. There are five bedrooms and five bathrooms. And there is a rectangular swimming pool surrounded by a lush lawn and diverse landscaping with mature trees. There was also plenty of privacy on the property which is located up the hill from the beach. It was remodeled after the 2018 Woolsey Fire even though it did not get damaged, it only suffered from the smoke. Doherty's name was in the press in April when her birthday came around. Her close friend Sarah Michelle Gellar celebrated Doherty's birthday by revealing their yearly 'tradition.' The TV star passed away on July 13, 2024, at the age of 53, following a battle with breast cancer that had spread to her brain and bones. And on what would have been Shannen's 54th birthday, Sarah Michelle revealed the pair always had a joint celebration as the Buffy The Vampire Slayer star's birthday is two days later. Alongside a picture and video of Shannen from their final celebration last year, Sarah Michelle shared on Instagram: 'For as long as I can remember, we have celebrated our birthdays together @theshando. 'This year I will keep that tradition, and celebrate you. I am so glad we were all together on this day last year, not knowing it would be the last like this. Happy Birthday Shannen.' Shannen's fellow Charmed alumni Rose McGowan, 51, also marked her heavenly birthday, writing on her Instagram Stories: 'Happy Birthday Shannen Doherty. 'You are missed, you are loved @theshando.' Following Shannen's death, heartbroken Sarah Michelle penned: 'How do you possibly find the right words to sum up 30 years of friendship? 'I keep reminding myself it only hurts this much because, there was so much love.' Rose also paid a touching tribute, writing: 'Getting to really know her later in life, a beautiful gift. This woman fought to live. 'Our lives had been intertwined in a unique way. We laughed at dark forces who wanted us to hate each other, instead we chose love and respect. A soft-hearted badass as there ever was. A force of energy that will live forever in hearts.' Shannen - who was diagnosed with stage four cancer in 2020 - was surrounded by her loved ones and beloved dog, Bowie, upon her death, her publicist Leslie Sloane shared. She told People: 'It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease. 'The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.'
