Detroit Tigers trade for starter Charlie Morton in last-minute deal with Baltimore Orioles
The Tigers acquired right-hander Charlie Morton in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, July 31, just moments before the 6 p.m. trade deadline.
The 41-year-old becomes a free agent after the 2025 season.

Morton has a 5.42 ERA with 48 walks and 101 strikeouts across 101⅓ innings in 23 games (17 starts). He has a 4.08 ERA in his 18-year MLB career.
He joins a Tigers rotation that currently includes Tarik Skubal, Jack Flaherty, Casey Mize, Chris Paddack and Troy Melton. Morton pitched for Tigers manager A.J. Hinch as a member of the Houston Astros in 2017-18, winning the 2017 World Series.

Celtics trade pitch finds ideal Kristaps Porzingis replacement by moving Simons
The Boston Celtics are still looking for ways to shed salary, and that could come in a few different ways. If Brad Stevens could also do that in a way to improve the rest of his roster, it's possible that things could look great for the Celtics in the short and long term. When recently looking for a few trade ideas around for Anfernee Simons, Matt Moore of FanSided proposed a few intriguing ones. Perhaps his most intriguing, however, was a deal with the Chicago Bulls for Nikola Vucevic and Ayo Dosunmu. But think of this way. In adding Simons, they can leverage him against Coby White, who is also on an expiring deal. The player who comes out on top gets extended. 'That, along with the Giddey extension, sets their direction for the long-term in the backcourt while Matas Buzelis develops... The Celtics shave off another $1.4 million off their cap space, while continuing to clean the books for 2026, and add a dogged defender in Dosunmu who fits their system better than Simons. Think of what Dosunmu will learn as Derrick White's understudy,' he wrote. Vucevic would be an interesting piece for the Celtics, as he has a somewhat similar skill set to Kristaps Porzingis. While Porzingis is much better, and tough to disagree with, Vucevic can also make shots from beyond the arc, so in that sense, they have some similarities. Dosunmu could also be a decent piece, and perhaps someone who could run the second unit, depending on what the Celtics want to do.

Report: Packers RB Emanuel Wilson avoids serious knee injury
Green Bay Packers running back Emanuel Wilson avoided a serious knee injury at Friday's practice and shouldn't miss much time, according to reporting from Bill Huber of Wilson, the team's backup running back behind Josh Jacobs last season, went down awkwardly while attempting to catch a pass during a team period on Friday. Despite initial concerns of a major injury, it appears Wilson avoided a worst-case scenario and will eventually return during training camp. Huber described the injury as a "tweak" and reported there is "no damage" inside the knee. The Packers are already without running back MarShawn Lloyd, who injured his groin during the team's first padded practice of the week and is expected to miss time into next week. Wilson rushed 103 times for 502 yards and four touchdowns and caught 11 passes for 48 yards and another touchdown across 17 games last season. The Packers also have veteran Chris Brooks, rookies Jalen White and Amir Johnson and recent addition Israel Abanikanda at running back behind Jacobs entering the team's Family Night practice at Lambeau Field on Saturday. CBS Sports predicts Auburn football's first loss of the 2025 season
Brad Crawford of CBS Sports believes Auburn will enjoy early success before dropping its first game of the 2025 season. The SEC is considered one of the toughest conferences in college football, and it is expected that every program within the league will stumble at least once this season. The good news is that the new College Football Playoff format is more forgiving to regular season losses, which could help Auburn in its quest for its first-ever College Football Playoff appearance. Brad Crawford of CBS Sports recently evaluated each SEC schedule, and which week would result in each team's first loss. For Auburn, he expects the Tigers to fall early in the SEC slate. Crawford expects Auburn to be ranked an unbeaten heading into Oklahoma on Sept. 20, but does not forecast the Tigers to exit the same way. Auburn will be nationally ranked going to Norman in Week 4 on the heels of a 3-0 start highlighted by a season-opening victory at Baylor that will recharge the fanbase a bit. Then, we're going to watch two high-powered offenses go at it with former Sooners quarterback Jackson Arnold making his much-anticipated return to Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Unfortunately, for the third straight season under Hugh Freeze, the Tigers will drop their SEC opener. The Tigers have had rough outings in SEC openers under Hugh Freeze, losing each by 10 or more points. Auburn fell on the road at Texas A&M in 2023, 27-10, and followed suit in 2024 by dropping its conference opener to Arkansas, 24-14. This season, Auburn will look to end the trend and gain momentum heading into another road game at Texas A&M to close the September slate. If Crawford's projection of Auburn stumbling at Oklahoma is true, then the Tigers will have a shot to bounce back three weeks later at home against rival Georgia. Crawford forecasts the Tigers to stun Georgia on Oct. 11 at Jordan-Hare Stadium, which would "rattle" the SEC at its midway point. Auburn's bye week ahead of playing Georgia could benefit them in addition to the game being played in the primetime slot. Anticipation of Auburn's 2025 season will fade on Friday, Aug. 29, when the Tigers kick off the season at Baylor.
