Preppy Connecticut town torn apart by violent murder at private school house party
A wealthy Connecticut suburb has been rocked by the killing of a private school lacrosse star stabbed to death at a house party. Raul Elias Valle, now 20, is accused of killing 17-year-old James McGrath at a home on Laurel Glen Drive in Shelton, a ritzy town 15 miles west of New Haven, after a fight over stolen beer. Prosecutors say that on the night of May 14, 2022, Valle used a pocketknife to stab four teenagers, including McGrath, following a feud between groups of boys from rival schools at an earlier party. At the time, Valle was a 16-year-old student at St Joseph High School, where tuition costs $19,000 a year, while McGrath was a standout athlete at the nearby $25,000-a-year Fairfield College Prep. Despite being charged with murder, Valle was released on a $2 million bond posted by his parents. He has pleaded not guilty and turned down a plea deal, opting to go to trial. He now faces up to 60 years in prison if found guilty. His case began unfolding at Connecticut Superior Court in Milford on June 17, 2025, and so far jurors have heard testimony from a sobbing Valle, along with several students who were at the party in 2022. During questioning, Valle admitted that he stabbed four people a collective nine times. Besides McGrath, those injured were named as Faison Teele, Ryan Heinz, and Thomas Connery. When asked if he was responsible for the stab wounds, Valle said: 'I don't know. I guess so. Yes.' He added that he didn't remember sinking the knife into the teens. Valle attorney has framed the stabbings as self-defense, saying his client was swarmed by teenagers during an 'attack' by other partygoers. Speaking in court, Valle told the court that a huge group of teens attacked him and 'everything went black.' 'I started waving and just stabbing in every direction, just flailing my arm around,' he said during the tearful testimony. Valle said his trio were confronted by 'about 30 people spread out in a line' which he described as a 'wall' of teenagers. Another high schooler at the party, Taylor Capela, witnessed the deadly fight, and said she heard one of the alleged victims shout 'he has a knife, he has a knife'. Moments later, Valle lunged at McGrath, Capela said. Capela said McGrath was not fighting anyone and was simply observing the chaos when Valle plunged the blade into his chest. She watched in horror as blood seeped through his white clothing. Capela also recalled seeing Teele and Connery covered in blood from their wounds. Capela broke down in the courtroom as she recalled the horror, saying she now suffers with nightmares and anxiety. Witnesses detailed how the fight which ended McGrath's life was sparked by an earlier disagreement at another house party. Valle's friend Jack Snyder, who gave him the knife, testified under an immunity agreement shielding him from prosecution linked to the crime. Snyder admitted going to a house party around two miles away earlier in the night and stealing beer from one of the stabbing victims, Ryan Heinz. Snyder said this triggered a minor dispute with a group from another local school, Shelton High. The rival groups then began insulting each other on a group chat that had originally been set up to organize basketball pick-up games. Snyder admitted that he and Valle left the first party when tensions were high, but planned to confront the other students later. They drove to the party on Laurel Glen Drive later that night, where Valle said the car was mobbed by the boys from the rival school. Snyder said he gave Valle a pocket-knife he had in the car, claiming that his friend 'aggressively' asked for it. Their friend Tyler DaSilva was also in the car. He added that he, DaSilva and Valle intended to resolve the fight peacefully because DaSilva 'knew some of their families', but he said one Shelton High student punched Valle, and the situation escalated from there. Meanwhile, Snyder remained in the car. He said that when Valle returned he was visibly disturbed. He said Valle told him 'I think I just stabbed four people'. Snyder said Valle tossed the knife into the woods as they left the scene - something the defendant denies. Snyder also admitted writing 'enjoy the hospital' in the basketball pick-up group chat, but told the court he did not understand the seriousness of the situation when he sent the message. One of the victims, Heinz, recalled the horrific moment he was stabbed. He said he did not initially realize, until a friend pointed out blood soaking through his clothes and he heard a gurgling noise coming from his collapsed lung. Disturbing footage of the fight was shown to jurors. Valle said it was Snyder who tossed him the knife unprompted, and that he was confused about why he handed him the weapon, but pocketed it anyway. Synder has denied this version of events, saying that Valle asked him for the knife. Prosecutors have charged Valle with murder and multiple counts of assault. He is being tried as an adult despite being a minor at the time of the alleged crimes. The trial is set to continue for several more weeks at Connecticut Superior Court.

EXCLUSIVE Terrifying never-seen-before footage shows father 'attempt honor killing' outside an American school
Timberline High could have been any American school on the afternoon of October 18 last year, minutes after the final bell rang. Teens in hoodies, jeans, and backpacks crowd along the road at the bus stop at 2.13pm, waiting to finally go home for the weekend. Suddenly, just as the bus arrives, three figures burst into view of the bus security cameras, grabbing, wrestling and throwing punches at each other. But this isn't some schoolyard brawl between boisterous teenagers - one of them is a grown man whom prosecutors allege is trying to murder his daughter. Terrifying footage obtained by the Daily Mail from the bus cameras shows the dramatic alleged crime, and the heroic response of the girl's classmates, for the first time. Ihsan Ali, 44, was allegedly attempting to carry out an 'honor killing' on the girl, aged 17, 'for refusing an arranged marriage with an older man in another county'. His wife, Zahraa Subhi Mohsin Ali, 40, allegedly tried to finish the job after the girl's 16-year-old boyfriend, other teens, and bystanders fought him off. The couple are behind bars after pleading not guilty to second-degree attempted murder and attempted kidnapping, and their trial starts tomorrow. The girl, who can't be named, ran away from home in Lacey, Washington, after her parents tried to put her on a plane to Iraq, and allegedly threatened her with an honor killing days earlier. School officials arranged for her to stay at a women's shelter, but didn't provide her with transport so she and her boyfriend went outside to catch the bus. That's when Ihsan spotted them and demanded she come home, telling her 'Heron' in Arabic, which meant, 'It's not right, you're not supposed to be doing this'. He flew into a rage and attacked the couple, the melee spilling through the crowd and into view of the bus as the girl was slung to the ground. Ihsan then punched the boyfriend square in the face, sending him staggering back out of the frame and falling down hard on nearby concrete. With the teen boy out of the way, he went after his daughter, grabbing her by the throat as she tried to flee. The girl's boyfriend jumped to his feet and along with two others boys charged at Ihsan and tried to pull him away, knocking both to the ground. The boys began punching, kicking, and stomping Ihsan as he put his daughter in a chokehold and refused to let go despite the flurry of blows. Eventually, Ihsan went limp, knocked out cold from repeated blows to the head, and the teens were able to help the girl to her feet. The camera also caught Josh Wagner stop his black Dodge Ram in the middle of the road, get out, and hustle over to the brawl. Wagner held Ihsan on the ground after he regained consciousness until police arrived and hauled the violent father away in handcuffs. By now, a crowd had formed around the unconscious Ihsan and the girl, making it harder to see what was going on. The girl's eldest sister Haneen Ali 21, could be seen confronting the boyfriend and sticking a phone in his face before they scuffled and he was dragged away by a classmate. Seconds later it appeared Zahraa had started her attack as the girl seemed to be back on the ground where witnesses alleged she also tried to kill her. 'Once [the girl] and her mom were on the ground, her mom put her arm around her neck and started choking her,' police wrote in their report. They were eventually separated and the girl was able to get to her feet. The footage showed the girl and her boyfriend run behind a tree pursued by Haneen and her mother where there was another altercation. The couple then fled inside the school, pursued by Zahraa, and were able to hide inside until police arrived. The brave boyfriend suffered a 'boxer's fracture' to his finger as he tried to get Ishan off his girlfriend, and bruises and scratches on his head and face. He wasn't diagnosed with a concussion but had symptoms such as sensitivity to light and headaches when he tried to watch TV or play video games. His mother told police it 'took him several days to talk about the incident without crying'. The girl earlier told police in a three-hour interview on October 24 that she ran away because she was terrified of being taken to Iraq where she would be married off, abused, and forced to have children - never to return home. She explained that after her boyfriend was knocked to the floor with his eyes closed, Ihsan grabbed her in a viscous attack. '[The girl] said her dad yanked her down and put her in a headlock. She said he was "choking" her "really hard" and she remembered grabbing his arm but then passed out,' police wrote. From there, her memory of Ihsan's attack ended, and she only knew what happened by watching the video of her boyfriend and classmates heroically saving her life. The girl also detailed her father's alleged threats to kill her for dating an American boy, and refusing an arranged marriage. 'If I could kill you, I would kill you, but I can't do that. I can't do that because there's cops and CPS people involved right now because of you,' she claimed he said. 'And I can't touch you because you will immediately go to the school.' The girl told police Ihsan another time told her he wanted to 'hurt her so badly but there are cops here' but also told her how he would 'kill her no matter what happens' and he 'did not care if anyone saw him'. Police bodycam footage obtained by the Daily Mail showed officers arriving at the school and arresting Ihsan, who demanded to speak to his daughter. 'Just let me tell her to come home - not like that. If I tell her to go home, she will go home,' he insisted, but police ignored him. Officers then had to deal with Zahraa and Haneen, who were hysterical and only left after Zahraa was allowed to speak to Ihsan. Police did not realize Zahraa also allegedly tried to kill her daughter until four days later, leaving her free to continue looking for her daughter, who was in hiding. Zahraa drove her youngest children, two boys aged five and three, into Canada and dropped them off with an Ihsan's brother and mother, who lived there. She then returned to Washington before trying to cross into Canada a second time with a 'notable quantity of baggage' on the night of October 22, but was arrested by customs officers. The girl spent four days in St Peter Hospital for treatment after a strangulation exam, having complained of neck, throat, and jaw pain, and had difficulty swallowing. Hospital staff listed her injuries as including redness and abrasions to her face, head, shoulders, neck, scalp, and under her chin. She also had suffered burst blood vessels in her eyes and an eyelid droop. 'She believes she lost consciousness three to four times during the incident,' court documents alleged, adding that at one point she woke up with dirt pressed into her face.

Haunting final moments of young father before he was shot and killed - as cops reveal disturbing link to 'contract crew' crime spree
Chilling footage captured the final moments of a young father who was shot and killed, with his death believed to be linked to a Victorian drug trafficking syndicate. Rich 'Dylan' Choup, 32, was reported missing in Sydney in July 2024, before his body was found in bushland at Lucas Heights in August. Police have been looking for those responsible and believe he may have been killed by a 'contract crew' responsible for two other violent incidents in the same week. The other two incidents include a man who was buried alive in an attempted murder, and a man who had his ear severed during a kidnapping. Detectives released on Monday CCTV footage linked to each of the incidents, including footage showing Mr Choup in an altercation days before he disappeared. Mr Choup was reported missing on July 29 last year and was last seen involved in a dispute in Cabramatta, south-west Sydney, on July 25. The young father had told friends he had a meeting and asked them to wait close by. CCTV showed Mr Choup meeting with a man on Railway Parade, who ordered him towards a car after slapping him at about 6.25pm. Both men were seen walking towards a grey Audi SQ2 before Mr Choup was reported missing four days later. On August 31, police were called to bushland off Heathcote Road in Lucas Heights after trail bike riders stumbled upon human remains which were later identified to be those of Mr Choup. A post-mortem discovered he had been fatally shot and the top of his right ear had been severed. Police also released footage of a white Lexus and white Audi RS3 from when Mr Choup was last seen. Two men in the CCTV, seen allegedly moving the vehicles before and after Mr Choup's disappearance, are of interest to police. The other two incidents linked to the 'contract crew' occurred days before the altercation between Mr Choup and the unidentified man at Cabramatta. Police said a 31-year-old man was kidnapped and tortured at Canley Vale, in south-west Sydney, before he was released the same day, on July 19. Part of his right ear was severed, however the man did not make a report to police. Officers conducted a search of a property where they believe the man had been held and discovered a box cutter at the premises. Police released CCTV of a dark-coloured Audi SQ2 and a white Volkswagen Golf at the intersection of Freeman Avenue and Sackville Street, around the time of the incident. Just two days later, a 23-year-old man walked into a Queensland petrol station covered in dirt and with a bullet wound to his head. He collapsed at the scene in Tamborine Street, Jimboomba, and was taken to hospital, where it was found he was shot through the eye and had a bullet in his brain. Queensland and NSW police think the man was shot and buried before he crawled out of a shallow grave to find help. CCTV footage showed a white Hyundai Getz at a roadhouse in Nambucca on the NSW Mid North Coast at about 5:30am on the day before the attempted murder. Four men were also seen on CCTV. One was believed to be the victim, which suggested he was picked up in NSW and driven to Queensland before being shot and buried. Anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
