Mark your calendars - one year from today, Mel Brooks will turn 100! And today we wish the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award (EGOT) winner a Happy 99th Birthday!
The irony of Brooks reaching age 99 is the classic sitcom Get Smart, which he created with Buck Henry in 1965 and featured Barbara Feldon as Agent 99. Get Smart, which aired through 1971 and won seven Emmys and two Golden Globe Awards, is just one of the endless accomplishments of Mr. Brooks, who is still actively working. Fun factoid: Don Adams as Maxwell Smart (Agent 86) talking on the shoe phone has been parodied by many comedians over the years.

Another fun factoid: Mel Brooks is one of only 21 entertainers to win the EGOT.
Born Melvin Kaminsky on June 28, 1926, Mel Brooks began his lengthy career as a comic and a writer for the groundbreaking Sid Caeser variety show Your Show of Shows, which ran from 1950 to 1954. There he worked with eventual legends Neil Simon and Carl Reiner, whom he remained best friends with until Reiner's death in 2020 at age 98.

Sid Caesar then created sketch-comedy Caesar's Hour, which ran from 1954 to 1957 and included most of the same cast and writers, including Brooks and the arrivals of Woody Allen and Larry Gelbart (M*A*S*H).
Then, after creating live act the '2000 Year Old Man' with Carl Reiner and appearing on The Steve Allen Show with it, the pair segued to three comedy albums, a 1975 animated TV special, and a reunion album in 1998.
Trivia note: Brooks adapted the '2000 Year Old Man' character to create the '2500-Year-Old Brewmaster" for Ballantine Beer in the 1960s.

Brooks headed to Broadway with the creation of the musical All American in 1962. Then came Get Smart. And, for several years, Brooks explored the ideas of a musical comedy of the notorious Adolph Hitler, which turned into his first feature comedic film, The Producers, in 1968. Brooks won The Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, and his film career skyrocketed.

Next was The Twelve Chairs in 1970, and two more collaborations with Gene Wilder: Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles, both in 1974. Fun factoid: the legendary actress Heddy Lamarr sued Brooks over the use of the name Hedley Lamarr in Blazing Saddles and settled out of court.

Brooks undeniably struck a comedic chord with audiences. Young Frankenstein was the third-highest-grossing film domestically of 1974, just behind Blazing Saddles with a gross of $86 million.
Heading back to television, Brooks created the 1975 sitcom When Things Were Rotten, a parody of Robin Hood. Despite only airing for 13 episodes, he resurrected dialogue from the comedy, and other Brooks films, for Robin Hood: Men in Tights on the big screen in 1993.

Later Mel Brooks features include Silent Movie (1976), High Anxiety (1977) and, through his company Brooksfilms, Frances (1982), The Fly (1986), My Favorite Year (1982), History of the World Part I (1981), Spaceballs (1987), Life Stinks (1991), and Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995). There was also the one season TV sitcom The Nutt House with Cloris Leachman and Harvey Korman in 1989. And, in 2001, came the blockbuster Broadway musical The Producers, based on the earlier film.

In recent years, Brooks published his memoir All About Me in 2021. He wrote and produced History of the World Part II, a follow-up series on Hulu, also in 2021. And just this month he announced Spaceballs 2 is bring produced with a release date targeted for 2027. Oh, and now there is also Very Young Frankenstein, a television project, for FX, that Brooks is producing.
The moral of this story: Staying active is the 'secret sauce' for longevity. And today we wish Mel Brooks a Happy 99th Birthday!

Hannah Fields is finally responding to the viral "Love Island" sex scene that has the internet buzzing. Her reaction comes just days after being dumped from the villa, where islanders are cut off from the outside world and unaware of the online discourse, including the nonstop chat about the moment she spat in her hand during a steamy scene with Pepe Garcia. 'We had not slept in, like, 24 hours. It had been three hours after we went to bed,' Fields told Us Weekly. 'You kind of forget that you're on camera." "I literally always forgot that I was being recorded, and it would dawn on me because I'd just see a camera, and I'd be like, 'Oh sh-t, I'm being recorded.'" According to Fields, she didn't recall her intimate moment with Garcia until the next day, when she urged him not to talk about it with others. Fields didn't learn the moment made it to air until recently, adding, "I'm like, 'Oh, I couldn't have been less discreet.'" Fields and Pepe aren't the only islanders who took their relationship to the next level inside the villa. In fact, Fields revealed that the "Love Island" cast developed a code word to discuss their intimate moments without being found out. 'We had a code name for intimacy,' Fields stated. 'We would say, 'How was your journey? What was this journey like?'" Fields explained that the code word began with Huda Mustafa, who viewers saw getting intimate with Jeremiah Brown. "[Mustafa] said something like, 'Oh, I had a journey. My journey went all the way,'" Fields recalled. While fans worldwide also went on a journey with Fields and Garcia, the reality star explained that she actively tried to block out the presence of cameras and the thought that America was watching. That mindset, however, proved difficult to maintain, especially when she was dumped from the villa in a recent episode, leaving Garcia behind to connect with other single islanders. "You don't know if people are voting out of spite or if people are voting because they actually like you," she said. "When I was in the bottom three, I tried really not to think about it as, 'Oh, America didn't like me.'" "I don't wanna think that America hates me. Nobody wants to think that. But I think there were a couple of times that people had said, 'Oh America must not like me.' When I got coupled up with Pepe, the girls would tell me like, 'Well America must've seen something that you didn't.' America was really personified in the villa," she continued. The reality star also opened up about the connection she made with her first match inside the villa, Charlie Georgiou, who was sent home days before Fields in another shocking elimination. 'I mean, we had a great time, and at the time, we had the strongest connection," she said before revealing they also experienced their "fair amount of downs." Georgiou echoed this sentiment in a previous interview, reported by The Blast, describing how he and Fields rediscovered each other in a new way prior to his abrupt removal from the villa. "We spoke. We found out more things about each other on a deeper level. That conversation went on for a while and it was beautiful and we were so happy after it," he said. "I was like, 'Wow, this is it. I'm gonna get to experience this real 'Love Island' journey now. We're gonna do this together. Whatever comes at us, okay. If we mess up along the way, it's all part of the journey.'" Since leaving the villa, Fields revealed she's "had pretty mixed emotions for a while." She also addressed whether she and Garcia would explore their connection once season 7 of "Love Island" wraps. "I've just been trying to stay really open-minded because I don't know what's gonna happen. He could build another connection,' she said. "I would love to continue building my connection with Pepe [outside the villa], but I'm not gonna force anything."

Utah kids interact with astronauts on International Space Station
RIVERDALE, Utah (ABC4) — Kids attending STAR Camp at the Utah Military Academy in Riverdale got the chance to talk to astronauts currently on board the International Space Station on Friday. NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers participated in the special Earth-to-space call Friday morning. McClain and Ayers responded to a range of questions submitted by the STAR camp participants. The event gave students the opportunity to engage directly with astronauts who are in outer space at this very moment. Event organizers said it helps youth better understand what may be out there. From Barnyard to Billboard: Utah sisters go viral for singing their goats to sleep Executive Director at STAR Camp, Annika Jensen, said the event supports their mission, which is simply to help people understand space, as well as to get people excited about space STEM and space education and exploration. 'The world of space exploration is so huge and basically no matter what you're interested in there, there's a job for you,' Jensen expressed.
