Spurs' Stephon Castle named 2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year
San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle on Tuesday was named the 2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year, becoming the fourth player in franchise history to win the award.
Castle secured 92 out of 100 first-place votes from a global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters, topping Atlanta Hawks forward Zaccharie Risacher (5) and Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaylen Wells (3). He finished with 482 total points in the final voting.
The fourth pick joins David Robinson (1990), Tim Duncan (1998) and Victor Wembanyama (2024) as previous Spurs winners. They are the first team to have back-to-back winners since the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2014-15 (Andrew Wiggins) and 2015-16 (Karl-Anthony Towns).
Castle led all first-year players in scoring, averaging 14.7 points, 4.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds on 42.8% shooting from the field in 81 games. He also paced the rookie class in field goals (423) and total steals (74) while making over 100 more free throws (249) than any other first-year player.
The Rising Stars Game MVP was the only rookie with at least 1,000 points this season (1,190) and is one of three in franchise history to also have 250 assists. He was one of four first-year players with multiple 30-point performances.
Castle earned Western Conference Rookie of the Month honors in January and March, joining Robinson, Duncan and Wembanyama as Spurs players to win multiple times. He was the first Spurs rookie since Duncan to rank in the top two on the team in both points and assists.

Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey help introduce Nike Giannis Freak 7 in commercial
San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper and Utah Jazz forward Ace Bailey appeared in a new Nike commercial alongside Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. Harper and Bailey helped promote the release of the Freak 7, the latest signature shoe created for the two-time NBA MVP with a new 'ANTETOKOUNMPO' traction pattern. The installment is expected to be available globally online and in select retail locations on July 29. The two players signed name, image and likeness deals with Nike last year at Rutgers. They are among several first-round picks who have signed with a brand, joining Cooper Flagg (New Balance), VJ Edgecombe (Adidas) and Kon Knueppel (Jordan Brand), among others. Harper debuted with the Spurs in the NBA Summer League, averaging 16 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal on 35.7% shooting from the field. The No. 2 pick dealt with a minor groin injury and was shut down by the team after two appearances. Bailey, the fifth pick, posted averages of 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists with the Jazz in the Salt Lake City Summer League. Like Harper, he was limited to two appearances because of a hip injury and didn't suit up for the team in Las Vegas, Nevada. After strong freshman campaigns with the Scarlet Knights, Harper and Bailey established themselves as top-five picks this year. They enter the upcoming season with tremendous hype and will do so, having appeared in a new commercial for Nike.

MORE — Premier League preseason schedules for all 20 teams The newly-minted Kai Tak Sports Park may have evaded the hurricanes and thunderstorms that were previously forecast for this week, heavy rain and wind are still expected. How to watch Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur live, stream link and start time Kick off time: 7:30am ET Thursday (July 31)Venue: Kai Tak Sports Park — Hong KongStreaming: Paramount+ Arsenal team news, focus The Gunners started their preseason tour with a pair of wins, over AC Milan and Newcastle, last week — at the same that brand new summer signing, striker Viktor Gyokeres, was unveiled in front of the fans in Singapore. Gyokeres is the $74-million solution to Arsenal's biggest problem last season: They didn't score enough goals (69) to challenge Liverpool for the Premier League title, even with having the league's best defensive record (34 conceded) by seven goals. Noni Madueke, who won't join the squad until after they return from Asia, should also go some way toward helping that cause, after joining from Chelsea for $55 million this summer. Tottenham Hotspur team news, focus Spurs are only on game 1 of their Asian tour after drawing League One sides Wycombe Wanderers (2-2) and Luton Town (0-0) on the same day, as new head coach Thomas Frank wanted 22 players with playing time before leaving London. As seemingly easy as Arsenal have made their transfer business look, dealings have proved rather difficult for Spurs (again). Mohammed Kudus has come in for $75 million, but Spurs' $80-million move for Morgan Gibbs-White was scuppered when Nottingham Forest threatened legal action for breach of confidentiality relating to the release clause in his contract and signed Gibbs-White to a new contract instead. Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur prediction The Gunners are simply much further along in their progression this preseason. The squad is settled, the system is familiar as can be, and they need a fast start to the season. Arsenal 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur.
