Newlywed Naval officer from Haryana killed in Pahalgam terror attack
He had recently married Himanshi from Gurugram on April 16, and the couple was on their honeymoon in Kashmir. Their wedding reception had taken place just days earlier, on April 19.
As per reports which reached here, Narwal was shot in chest, neck and left arm and was brought dead to the hospital. There is no confirmation about the condition of his wife, Himanshi.
He completed his Class 10 from Saint Kabir School in Karnal, pursued his Class 12 in Delhi, and went on to earn a B Tech degree from Sonepat.
Defence officials confirmed that Lieutenant Vinay Narwal was posted in Kochi and had joined the Indian Navy two years ago. Originally from Bhusli village in Karnal district, he was currently residing in Sector 7, Karnal.
He is survived by his father, Rajesh Narwal, a superintendent with the GST wing of the state excise department in Panipat; his mother, Asha Narwal; his younger sister, Srishti; and his grandfather, Hawa Singh, a retired police officer.
Singh said, "We have come to know that the terrorist asked the religion and then fired. He and his wife was having food at that time and he was shot in the head. In the information given to us we were told that in the attack he was shot in the head. His father, sisters, father-in-law and mother-in-law have left for Srinagar."
"When he was three and half years old we had shifted from our village to Karnal. He did his Class X from here and Class XII from Delhi. Then he did his B Tech from Sonepat. Then through SSB he was directly got commissioned in the navy as second Lieutenant and about one and half years ago he was promoted as Lieutenant,'' he said.
Singh said, "His grandson always wanted to serve in the armed forces and since childhood when he use to see military vehicles he use to ask me many questions. I had served in the BSF and I knew how tough is the job guarding the borders and then I joined Haryana Police."
As the news of his death reached the neighbors and locals went into a shock and described Narwal as a young officer with a bright future. People gathered at Narwal's residence in Karnal to mourn his death with his family.
"Vinay a navy officer was married about four days ago, everyone was happy. We have received the information that he was killed by terrorists and died on the spot said,'' Naresh Bansal, a neighbor.

India inches closer to get TRF sanctioned as UN Security Council Monitoring Team flags Pahalgam attack

Image courtesy: X India is now one step closer to get The Resistance Front (TRF), the terrorist group that claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack, sanctioned at the United Nations (UN). In its latest report released on Tuesday, the UN Security Council's (UNSC) sanctions monitoring team flagged the TRF and the group's role in the Pahalgam attack. On April 22, terrorists killed 26 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. The TRF claimed responsibility for the attack. The TRF is considered to be an offshoot of the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which has pursued terrorism against India for decades and carried out several attacks, including the Mumbai terrorist attacks of 2008 in which more than 150 people were killed. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In the report, the UNSC sanctions monitoring report said that five terrorists carried out the attack in Pahalgam and the TRF claimed responsibility for the act and published a photo as well. The report said that one UNSC said that the attack could not have happened without LeT's support and that there was a relationship between LeT and TRF. It reported another UNSC member as saying that the attack was carried out by TRF, which was synonymous with the LeT. A third UNSC member rejected these views and said the LeT was defunct. Now that the UNSC monitoring committee has flagged the TRF in its report, the next step is its mention in the sanctions committee's report, which will make the group's designation just a matter of time, according to the view in New Delhi. India had briefed the UNSC on the TRF and Pahalgam attack in April and May. While the United States has designated the TRF as a foreign terrorist organisation, China has consistently blocked efforts to get it sanctioned at the UNSC. As a permanent member, China has exercised its veto power and certain non-veto, procedural methods to hamper India's efforts. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD India considers TRF's mention in UNSC report a victory New Delhi is considering the TRF's mention in the UNSC monitoring team's report as a diplomatic achievement. A source said that a UNSC report has flagged the TRF for the first time. Notably, India had been briefing the UNSC about the TRF since 2023. Last year, India on two occasions briefed the UNSC on the TRF's links to the LeT. The paragraph on the TRF in the UNSC monitoring team's report and the Pahalgam attack is the first part under the South Asia Section and the largest and it is in line with what India has been saying about the links between the TRF and the LeT and its support from Pakistan, the source said. They said that it is notable as all decisions of the sanctions committee, including the finalising of monitoring committee reports, are adopted by consensus by UNSC members. The inclusion of the TRF in the monitoring team's report despite Pakistan's efforts for its removal highlights Pakistan's undeniable involvement in fomenting terrorism and attests to India's credibility at the UN on the counter-terrorism front, they further said. Twenty-six people were killed when terrorists opened fire at a meadow near the popular tourist town of Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on April 22. Recounting the young officer's childhood, the father said, "Since childhood he liked the army uniform, the army vehicles. He liked it since he was very dedicated to his work. And he had a leadership quality since childhood." "He was the leader of everyone. And ultimately, I would say that he was made for defense," his father said.
