'Part Of Me Feels Relieved...': Wife Of Navy Officer Killed In Pahalgam Lauds Operation Mahadev
Last Updated: "A part of me feels relieved that those cowards were killed. I am grateful to the defence forces for putting their life at risk for justice," Himanshi Narwal said. Days after three Pakistani terrorists involved in the Pahalgam massacre were killed on the outskirts of Srinagar under an operation codenamed as 'Operation Mahadev', the wife of Navy officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal who was killed in the April 22 attack, Himanshi Narwal, in an exclusive interview to CNN-News18, expressed her happiness and stated that she feels relieved that those cowards were killed. Speaking for the first time after Operation Mahadev's success and elimination of terrorists, Himanshi Narwal said that she is grateful to the defence forces of the country for avenging the Pahalgam attack. 'A part of me feels relieved that those cowards were killed. I am grateful to the defence forces for putting their life at risk for justice," Himanshi Narwal told CNN-News18. Further raising her concerns over the rise in terrorism, she said, 'We need to understand that terrorism needs to be erased from its roots. My husband's soul would get peace if, because of his sacrifice, terrorism gets erased." Operation Mahadev Operation Mahadev, carried out by the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police, eliminated the alleged mastermind behind the Pahalgam attack, along with two other terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during the debate on Operation Sindoor, Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that the three terrorists — Suleiman alias Faizal Jatt, Afghan, and Jibran — were killed during Operation Mahadev, which took place on Monday. Elaborating on Operation Mahadev, the Home Minister said the Intelligence Bureau received initial inputs on May 22, and by July 22, the exact location of the terrorists was identified. A joint operation was then launched, involving the 4 Para Battalion, CRPF, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. view comments First Published: July 31, 2025, 09:14 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. India inches closer to get TRF sanctioned as UN Security Council Monitoring Team flags Pahalgam attack
In its latest report, the United Nations Security Council's (UNSC) Monitoring Team has flagged the Pahalgam attack and The Resistance Front's (TRF) role, meaning India is now one step closer to get the Pakistan-based offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) sanctioned. read more The couple in the viral image has been identified as Indian Navy officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal and his wife, Himanshi. The duo had gotten married just days ago and were on their honeymoon. Image courtesy: X India is now one step closer to get The Resistance Front (TRF), the terrorist group that claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack, sanctioned at the United Nations (UN). In its latest report released on Tuesday, the UN Security Council's (UNSC) sanctions monitoring team flagged the TRF and the group's role in the Pahalgam attack. On April 22, terrorists killed 26 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. The TRF claimed responsibility for the attack. The TRF is considered to be an offshoot of the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which has pursued terrorism against India for decades and carried out several attacks, including the Mumbai terrorist attacks of 2008 in which more than 150 people were killed. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In the report, the UNSC sanctions monitoring report said that five terrorists carried out the attack in Pahalgam and the TRF claimed responsibility for the act and published a photo as well. The report said that one UNSC said that the attack could not have happened without LeT's support and that there was a relationship between LeT and TRF. It reported another UNSC member as saying that the attack was carried out by TRF, which was synonymous with the LeT. A third UNSC member rejected these views and said the LeT was defunct. Now that the UNSC monitoring committee has flagged the TRF in its report, the next step is its mention in the sanctions committee's report, which will make the group's designation just a matter of time, according to the view in New Delhi. India had briefed the UNSC on the TRF and Pahalgam attack in April and May. While the United States has designated the TRF as a foreign terrorist organisation, China has consistently blocked efforts to get it sanctioned at the UNSC. As a permanent member, China has exercised its veto power and certain non-veto, procedural methods to hamper India's efforts. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD India considers TRF's mention in UNSC report a victory New Delhi is considering the TRF's mention in the UNSC monitoring team's report as a diplomatic achievement. A source said that a UNSC report has flagged the TRF for the first time. Notably, India had been briefing the UNSC about the TRF since 2023. Last year, India on two occasions briefed the UNSC on the TRF's links to the LeT. The paragraph on the TRF in the UNSC monitoring team's report and the Pahalgam attack is the first part under the South Asia Section and the largest and it is in line with what India has been saying about the links between the TRF and the LeT and its support from Pakistan, the source said. They said that it is notable as all decisions of the sanctions committee, including the finalising of monitoring committee reports, are adopted by consensus by UNSC members. The inclusion of the TRF in the monitoring team's report despite Pakistan's efforts for its removal highlights Pakistan's undeniable involvement in fomenting terrorism and attests to India's credibility at the UN on the counter-terrorism front, they further said. "Not A Complete Closure": Pahalgam Victim's Father On Operation Mahadev
This is a closure, but not a complete closure, Rajesh Narwal, the father of Jammu and Kashmir terror attack victim naval officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, told NDTV, a day after the Army eliminated three terrorists in an encounter near Srinagar, two of them involved in the Pahalgam attack. Twenty-six people were killed when terrorists opened fire at a meadow near the popular tourist town of Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on April 22. A picture of Himanshi Narwal sitting beside her dead husband became the defining image of the attack, which shook the nation. "Sir, I cannot say this is a closure. You can say this is a closure, but it is not a complete closure. Because the terrorist attack that took place that day, where my son, Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, was martyred, it is not just the work of these three men," the father told NDTV. The Army's elite para commandos on Monday gunned down the alleged mastermind of the Pahalgam terror attack along with two of his associates in an encounter in a forest area on the outskirts of Srinagar in Kashmir. "There will be a chain behind them, a in that chain, the people who planned this, I will not quote anyone's name. Every person who is being investigated by the NIA, all of them are culprits in it. All of them deserve the same punishment. And we will get it," he said. "This is not the work of three": Rajesh Narwal, father of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal who was killed in Pahalgam speaks to NDTV on Operation Mahadev — NDTV (@ndtv) July 29, 2025 Asked about his thoughts on Operation Sindoor, India's counterstrike against terror attack in Pahalgam, Mr Narwal said: "I consider it a successful operation. And I want to thank the soldiers of my army, the soldiers of the paramilitary forces, the officers of the police, who have taken part in Operation Mahadev. They have been working with dedication day and night. I salute their bravery and courage." Married just a few days before the Pahalgam attack, 26-year-old Navy officer Vinay Narwal, accompanied by his wife Himanshi, was on a honeymoon in Pahalgam town when terrorists shot him at point-blank range. Recounting the young officer's childhood, the father said, "Since childhood he liked the army uniform, the army vehicles. He liked it since he was very dedicated to his work. And he had a leadership quality since childhood." "He was the leader of everyone. And ultimately, I would say that he was made for defense," his father said.
