US President Donald Trump lashed out at a reporter after being asked about the resurfacing controversy surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, calling the journalist a 'waste of time" and slamming the question as a distraction from 'real issues."
At a White House press conference, Donald Trump bristled when asked about renewed scrutiny over the Jeffrey Epstein case following a public spat with tech mogul Elon Musk.
'Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This guy we've been talking about for years," Donald Trump said, visibly irritated, adding, 'We have Texas and other issues, and people are still talking about this creep guy- that is unbelievable. You are a waste of time."
'I can't believe you are asking a question about him at a time like this- when we're having some of the greatest success and tragedy with what happened in Texas. It seems like a disaggregation," he added, referencing ongoing flood relief efforts in the state and his recent military initiative Operation Midnight Hammer.
Donald Trump's remarks come amid fresh political friction over the Jeffrey Epstein case, fueled by a dramatic public fallout with Elon Musk, who last month accused the US President of being 'in the Epstein files". Elon Musk later walked back his claims, deleting the post and admitting he had 'gone too far."
In response, Donald Trump shared a statement from David Schoen, a former Epstein attorney, asserting that the US President had never been implicated in any criminal activity. A Department of Justice memo released this week reiterated that Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide while in federal custody in 2019 and stated that no verified 'black book" of clients or credible evidence of blackmail had been uncovered.

Recommended Stories Earlier, Musk had deleted an explosive allegation linking Donald Trump with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein that he posted on social media during a vicious public fallout with the US President. Musk alleged that the Republican leader is featured in unreleased government files on former associates of Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while he faced sex trafficking charges. 'Time to drop the really big bomb: (Trump) is in the Epstein files," Musk posted on his social media platform. 'That is the real reason they have not been made public," he alleged. Musk did not reveal which files he was talking about and offered no evidence for his claim. He initially doubled down on the claim, writing in a follow-up message, 'Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out." However, he deleted both tweets the following morning. Meanwhile, the Trump administration acknowledged it was reviewing tens of thousands of documents, videos and investigative material that his 'MAGA" movement says will unmask public figures complicit in Epstein's crimes. Trump was named in a trove of deposition and statements linked to Epstein that were unsealed by a New York judge in early 2024. The President has not been accused of any wrongdoing in the case. In response, Trump dismissed Musk's new party as 'ridiculous" and labelled him a 'train wreck," criticising the effort as one doomed to fail in the US political system. The feud between Musk and Trump marks a major turn in their relationship. Trump had once praised Musk's government cost-cutting efforts and even presented him with a gold key to the White House. US Supreme Court clears way for Trump to pursue mass federal layoffs
The US Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the way for President Donald Trump's administration to resume plans for mass government job firing and the sweeping downsizing of several federal agencies, a verdict which could lead to thousands of layoffs as critics warn it could also threaten critical government services. In a major victory for the US government, the Supreme Court on Tuesday lifted a lower court's order that had frozen sweeping federal layoffs known as 'reduction in force' which Trump had passed through an executive order in February, directing the agencies to prepare for mass layoffs. After Trump's order, the administration had come up with plans to reduce staff at the US Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Health and Human Services, State, Treasury, Veterans Affairs and several other federal agencies. The top court's verdict is the latest victory for the Trump administration which is making efforts to consolidate power in the executive branch. The US Supreme Court has sided with the Trump administration in multiple cases on an emergency expedited basis since the republican leader returned to power in January, including clearing the way for implementation of immigration policies. Earlier in May, San Francisco-based US District Judge Susan Illston had temporarily blocked the large-scale federal layoffs and ruled that President Trump exceeded his power in ordering the government downsizing without prior consultation with the Congress. The decision by the Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared a major obstacle for the White House which meant that the court wasn't assessing the legality of any specific layoff plans at federal agencies.
