SpiceJet flight cancelled after delay and sunset restriction at Darbhanga Airport
Passengers of SpiceJet flight SG447, scheduled to depart from Darbhanga to Delhi on Saturday morning, were left stranded after the flight was cancelled due to a combination of technical issues and sunset restrictions at the airport.
According to sources, "The flight, originally set to depart around 11:40 am, was initially delayed due to technical reasons with the aircraft. The aircraft was unable to operate as planned. SpiceJet then arranged a replacement aircraft to carry the passengers to Delhi."
However, Darbhanga airport, which operates as a defence airport, enforces a strict sunset restriction on civil flight movements, the sources said.Although the replacement aircraft eventually reached Darbhanga, it arrived too late to obtain the necessary clearance for departure before sunset. As a result, the flight was unable to take off and was subsequently cancelled, the sources added.SpiceJet has assured that alternative arrangements have been made for the stranded passengers to travel to Delhi on Sunday, the sources added.
Earlier this week, a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Mumbai handed over two passengers to the CISF for their unruly behaviour after they attempted to approach the cockpit while the aircraft was taxiing forcefully.According to a statement from a SpiceJet spokesperson, the incident occurred on flight SG 9282 prior to takeoff. Despite repeated warnings from the cabin crew, fellow passengers, and the Captain, the individuals refused to return to their seats, creating a disruption onboard."In the interest of the safety of all passengers and crew, the Captain decided to return the aircraft to the bay," the airline said. The two passengers were removed from the flight and handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for further action.In a statement, an airline spokesperson said, "On July 14, 2025, two unruly passengers were offloaded from SpiceJet flight SG 9282 operating from Delhi to Mumbai. The two attempted to approach the cockpit forcefully and caused a disruption while the aircraft was taxing."

NEW DELHI: More than 2,300 male passengers were fined for entering women-only coaches in the Delhi Metro during the fiscal year 2024–25, according to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). These include regular announcements on platforms and inside trains, prominent signage indicating the location of women-only coaches, and social media posts on DMRC's official handles. Additionally, flying squads have been deployed to monitor such violations and take necessary action. 'Our aim is to ensure a safer and more respectful environment for female passengers. These checks and sensitisation drives will continue,' the official added. The Delhi Metro, with its 10 colour-coded lines and 257 stations, covers a network of nearly 395 km. Each train typically consists of six or eight coaches, with one reserved exclusively for women. Recently, a video went viral showing male passengers occupying the ladies' coach and refusing to leave despite repeated requests by female commuters, highlighting the ongoing challenge despite existing regulations.

IIM-Calcutta rape case: Accused student granted bail on ₹50,000 bond
The Alipore Court on Saturday granted bail to Premanand Mahaveer Toppannavar, also known as Parmanand Jain, the student accused in the alleged rape case on the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta campus. The court allowed bail on a bond of Rs 50,000, citing that the victim had 'not cooperated' in the investigation. The decision comes after Toppannavar, a second-year student at IIM Calcutta, was remanded to police custody till July 19. He had been arrested by Kolkata Police on the night of July 13 following a complaint filed by a woman alleging that she had been raped on the IIM Calcutta campus. Earlier, Kolkata Police officials had informed that a nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted under the Deputy Commissioner of the South West Division to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident. Chief Prosecutor Sourin Ghosal told ANI that during the court proceedings, the defence claimed the sexual act was consensual, while the prosecution argued that prima facie evidence and medical reports supported the complainant's claims. "We asked for police custody, and the accused asked for bail. They argued that it was consensual. We argued that no, the prima facie investigation shows that a crime was committed, and the medical evidence supports the victim. The court granted police custody till July 19," Ghosal said. Meanwhile, the mother of the accused student, Mahaveer Toppannavar alias Parmanand Jain, said the family was stunned by the development and had no knowledge of the reason behind his detention.
