During a recent solocation to Chattanooga, TN, I finally checked a long-standing item off my travel bucket list: a stay at The Hotel Chalet. Nestled in the heart of Downtown Chattanooga, this boutique gem at Chattanooga Choo Choo offers a lodging experience that's anything but ordinary.

Part of the historic Chattanooga Choo Choo campus, The Hotel Chalet blends rich railroad history with chic design. Perhaps the most buzzed-about feature? The refurbished train carriage rooms, which offer guests the chance to sleep in a luxe railcar. While I didn't book a train room this time, my Chalet King room didn't disappoint. Styled with jewel-toned mid-century modern decor, the space felt instantly calming, perfect for a solo retreat.

On site is Elsie's Daughter, a moody, elegant restaurant where I was lucky to snag a seat at the bar on a busy Saturday night (SB Tip: Be sure to make your reservations in advance!). The restaurant's name is a charming nod to history: Donn Barber (the architect behind Terminal Station) and his wife Elsie had a daughter named Elsie, who later named her daughter Elsie. Hence, Elsie's Daughter.

The restaurant leans into Barber's Beaux Arts aesthetic while serving up French-Belgian fare with an Appalachian twist. It felt more like dining in a well-appointed living room than a bustling eatery — warm lighting, layered textures, and rich flavors made for an unforgettable meal.

I happened to visit during an unseasonably warm March weekend and loved seeing guests take advantage of the Alpine pool. Surrounded by lush greenery and tucked away from the hum of downtown, it's a chic little oasis that adds a touch of European resort energy to the Southern setting.

Whether you're in town for adventure, relaxation, or a bit of both, The Hotel Chalet manages to make even a quick getaway feel intentional and elevated. This charming spot is well worth the hype — and a return visit.
For another boutique stay, check out The Horse Shoe Farm in Hendersonville, NC!
Cheers to your next solocation!

Dog-Friendly 30A Restaurants Where Your Dog Can Dine in Style

Share with your friends! Pinterest LinkedIn Email Flipboard Reddit With its open-air lifestyle and strong sense of community, the beach towns along Florida's scenic HWY 30A are exceptionally pet-friendly. Yes, there a quite a few restaurants that allow dogs, but these three 30A restaurants actively embrace them, offering water bowls, shaded patios, and a warm welcome for furry companions. North Beach Social Neighborhood: Santa Rosa Beach More Info: If your ideal vacation includes live music, a breezy bayfront view, and your dog happily lounging beneath your table, North Beach Social is your go-to spot. Situated right at the foot of the 331 bridge, this relaxed hangout embodies the laid-back energy of old Florida — think flip-flops, cold beer, and kids building sandcastles just steps from your seat. Dogs are enthusiastically welcomed in the expansive outdoor dining area, where picnic tables dot the waterfront and water bowls are offered with a smile. The menu is approachable yet elevated, with crowd-pleasers like Gulf fish tacos, poke bowls, and the signature Grits A Ya-Ya. While the vibe is casual, the flavors don't disappoint. Pin SB Tip: Just upstairs is Farm & Fire, North Beach's more refined sister eatery. Offering wood-fired dishes, tasty sushi, and tapas, be sure to take advantage of the ability to order from its menu while enjoying drinks down on the sand. It also boasts a more moody, modern dining room with sweeping Choctawhatchee Bay views. It's a wonderful date-night option when you're ready for a more elevated experience (sans pup). Pickle's Sandbar Neighborhood: Seaside More Info: In the heart of iconic Seaside, Pickle's Sandbar blends beachside nostalgia with fresh energy, and it's as dog-friendly as it is family-friendly. This offshoot of the original Pickle's Burger + Shake joint offers a more relaxed, welcoming vibe without losing the charm that put it on the map. Pin Dogs are welcome in the shaded outdoor space, where high-top tables and casual seating make it easy to linger. Order a signature smashburger, creamy frozen custard, or the famous loaded fries. Parents can kick back with a craft beer or frozen daiquiri while kids grab soft-serve and pups relax at their feet. It's quintessential 30A: breezy, lively, and totally unfussy. SB Tip: Seaside can get crowded during peak hours, so consider visiting just before sunset for a more mellow experience. The golden-hour lighting here makes for perfect family (and pup!) photos. Chiringo's Neighborhood: Grayton Beach More Info: Just a short stroll from Grayton Beach's sugar-white shoreline, Chiringo is a colorful, beachy gem that channels Spanish surf shack vibes with an upscale twist. Its name (a nod to the chiringuitos found on the coasts of southern Spain) sets the tone: relaxed, vibrant, and full of flavor. Pin Dogs are welcomed on the ground-level patio and upstairs rooftop deck, both offering generous shade and breezy Gulf air. The menu is packed with light, fresh coastal dishes — think grilled mahi tacos, bright ceviche, and power bowls with quinoa and avocado. Parents can sip on sangria, rosé, or a rotating lineup of local craft beers while kids enjoy quesadillas or a build-your-own taco option. SB Tip: The rooftop patio is a perfect place to unwind after a beach day. With staff who go out of their way to offer water bowls and a warm welcome, it's easy to see why so many families (and their pups) return again and again. Whether you're staying in WaterColor, Grayton Beach, or Santa Rosa, these pet-friendly restaurants are proof that dining well and traveling with your dog don't have to be mutually exclusive. *********** For a daily dose of Style + Substance delivered straight to your inbox, subscribe to StyleBlueprint! Travel around France could be hit as air traffic controllers strike

About 40 per cent of flights were canceled Friday at all Paris airports and tens of thousands of passengers were rearranging plans at the height of the summer travel season because of a strike by French air traffic controllers seeking better working conditions. Disruptions started hitting airports around France on Thursday and intensified Friday. The national civil aviation authority asked airlines to cancel 40 per cent of flights Friday at Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Beauvais airports serving Paris, half of flights in Nice and 30 per cent of flights in Marseille, Lyon and some other cities. Ryanair was among airlines that announced widespread disruptions, saying in a statement it canceled more than 400 flights affecting 70,000 passengers. The company said the strike affects all its flights over French airspace, as well as traffic in and out of French airports, and urged the European Union to reform air traffic rules. Story continues below advertisement One of the two unions leading the strike, UNSA-ICNA, said in a statement there are not enough employees to handle surging air travel and that inflation is eating away at salaries. The unions also are protesting new reform measures aiming to more tightly monitor their work, prompted by a near-collision at the Bordeaux airport. Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot called the union demands — and their decision to strike just as French schools close for the summer and many families head on vacation — ″unacceptable.″
