Charles and Harry talks in full - Sussex 'motive', William's role and leak row

Daily Mirrora day ago
A peace summit held with senior aides of King Charles and Prince Harry's is said to be a "significant" step in reuniting the feuding father and son, sources have claimed
Prince Harry has opened the door to a possible reconciliation with his father after senior aides for the Duke of Sussex held private talks with King Charles 's most trusted adviser.
Two of Harry's top staff - Meredith Maines, his chief of staff in Montecito, and Liam Maguire, who runs the Sussexes' UK PR operation - were spotted meeting with Tobyn Andreae, the King's communications secretary, for drinks at the Royal Over-Seas League in London last week.

Sources close to the Palace were quick to stress there was 'no formal agenda, just casual drinks'. But royal watchers believe the meeting could be the first step towards repairing the rift between Harry and his family after years of tension.

They are said to have discussed how to end the conflict, and matters like not trying to steal the spotlight with schedule clashes. However, a return to royal life for Harry was reportedly not touched on.
A source told The Sun:"The meeting was with Harry's blessing," while Buckingham Palace is said to have agreed to the get-together within the last two weeks. Harry is next due back in the UK in September for the annual WellChild events, prompting speculation that he and Charles could meet then. So how did the milestone meeting play out and what is the story around it?

Harry's 'motive'
The meeting comes amid growing speculation that Harry, 40, is seeking a way to rebuild ties with the monarchy, with cynics accusing him of seeking to 'replenish his royalness' because that's his 'only real currency'.
"Truth is, if you strip away his royal status there's not an awful lot left to work with,' said MailOnline columnist Sarah Vine. "Harry hasn't exactly distinguished himself as a 'civilian'. Every single project he's undertaken has been predicated on his titles... It's a rich resource he has ruthlessly mined, but without contact with the source, the well is beginning to run dry.
" Prince Harry needs to replenish his royalness - and making nice with Pater is the quickest and easiest way of reminding the world of that profitable connection.

Harry's multi-million-pound deals with Netflix and other platforms have relied heavily on his royal connection. Some insiders believe he now risks losing that relevance if he remains cut off from his family.
William's role
Any reunion would also need to address the deep hurt felt by Prince William and the Princess of Wales.

'The King can't just allow Harry to waltz back into the fold without acknowledging how destructive and hurtful his behaviour has been towards his brother and his brother's wife,' Vine added..
However, it has been said that the talks would never have happened without the approval of the Prince of Wales and his wife Kate, although there is reportedly no hope of a reunion between the brothers at this point.
While Prince William 's team were reportedly not invited to the shock summit, experts have revealed the hidden role he will have likely played behind the scenes as the future of the monarchy. They claim that while William is far less inclined to reconcile with his estranged brother, whom he's reportedly not spoken to in years, the meeting would have never happened without his 'support and understanding'.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Mail Online: "The King would never have made these moves without William's support and understanding. William and Catherine are the future of the monarchy. He has undoubtedly been furious at the way the Sussexes have behaved and undoubtedly regards Harry's behaviour as treason of a sort. They reportedly have not spoken in over two years.'
And royal author Phil Dampier said: "The King is more anxious to patch things up than William, who I believe will never be close to his brother again."
Harry's next move
King Charles, who has only met Harry and Meghan's youngest child, Princess Lilibet, once, is thought to be keen to see more of his grandchildren. But insiders say any rapprochement will take time and require 'genuine commitment' from Harry to mend relations.

A Royal source told the Mirror: "The King has consistently shown he loves both his sons and as he has done in the past is prepared to meet Harry when their diaries allow such an occasion. It's not unusual for aides from different households to meet, especially when there is a new influx of staff starting their roles, but of course this is a significant moment.
"Senior members of the family have in the past said to Harry that he must both stop his attacks on the family as well as giving endless rounds of broadcast interviews as his only way of communication. If there is a period of calm and reflection on the part of the Duke of Sussex, then there may be a way forward for him to begin along the road of repairing his relationship with his father."
Harry is due back in the UK on

Leak row
Details of the meeting leaked, with the staff pictured enjoying drinks in the sunshine. Speculation soon started over which camp had leaked the details, with social media suspicion immediately falling on the Sussexes, who have been know to share intimate details of family matters in the past.
Sources close to the Sussexes have since denied that they are to blame, while Buckingham Palace declined to comment when approached by The Telegraph.
Harry and Meghan are said to be frustrated that the story was leaked, and acknowledge that it's not an ideal start to peace talks.

Real reason behind Harry and Meghan's charm offensive with King Charles revealed

Prince Harry and King Charles' most senior aides have come together for a secret meeting in a major shift towards reconciliation - and it appears to be part of a wider strategy for the Sussexes A reunion between Prince Harry and his estranged father King Charles is on the cards, and it seems there's been plenty of work behind the scenes to try and improve relations. Their teams came together for a top secret meeting last week, marking the first significant shift towards reconciliation since the Duke infuriated his family with numerous public smears against them. ‌ And it has now been revealed that the meeting between Charles and Harry's most senior aides, held at a swanky London members club, came amid a "charm offensive" by the Sussexes to transform their public image on the prince's home soil. ‌ Harry and Meghan's new chief of communications, Meredith Maines, met with Charles' communication secretary Tobyn Andreae. The secret summit was held at Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) club, a mere stone's throw away from Clarence House, the monarch's London residence. Ironically, the members club prides itself on "championing international friendship across the world". ‌ A source told said of the meet: "There's a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in year. There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about." But the Sussexes' new communications guru was already busy schmoozing UK connections before the historic meeting, as she reportedly flew in from California days before the summit for a host of meetings and events with British businesses, charities and journalists, the Daily Mail reports. Maines, who heads up Harry's household on Monetico, California, was joined by Liam Maguire, the couple's new UK PR lead, for the meetings. ‌ It has been claimed that their busy itinerary indicates a fresh plan to reinvent the Sussex image in the UK, as the couple's move to America and subsequent attacks on the royal household has left a sour taste in the mouth of many Brits. Last month, Harry and Meghan said goodbye to six members of staff in a complete overhaul of their communications team. Those who got the boot included UK-based Charlie Gipson, their director of communications in Europe, and US-based Kyle Boulia, their deputy press secretary. ‌ Another was Lianne Cashin, the former head of operations at Archewell, just weeks after she was promoted to a senior consultant and praised by sources close to the Sussexes. Also cut was Meghan Markle 's social media manager. The shake-up is thought to have come before Meghan posted her viral twerking video on Instagram to mark her daughter Lilibet's fourth birthday. ‌ There has been a notable shift in the Duchess' social media strategy since she returned to the platform, including regular photos of her children. Previously, the couple hadn't shown Archie and Lilibet's faces online but now personal family snaps are often shared by Meghan. The PR overhaul comes after Harry and Meghan were savaged by a Vanity Fair article earlier this year, which delved into their life in California and even labelled them 'local villains'. The brutal takedown also made numerous allegations of mistreatment from former staff. According to the Times, Harry and Meghan dismissed the allegations at the time, with a source close to them describing them as 'distressing'. Harry is due to head back to the UK in September for the annual WellChild events, an opportunity which could see him reunite with his dad for the first time in 18 months. But Prince William doesn't appear to have any plans to see his brother, despite the peace talks. It is understood that the historic meeting did not cover Harry returning to a formal royal role, but both teams discussed avoiding any media clashes and conflicts in the calendar.

Conor McGregor sends message after naked photo 'leak' and kiss with mystery woman

McGregor has taken to social media for the first time since he was pictured getting close to a mystery woman in Florida - but the UFC legend didn't address the incident Conor McGregor has broken his social media silence following 24 hours of drama which saw him photographed kissing a mystery woman before naked photos allegedly showing him lifting weights with his penis were leaked. The former two-weight UFC champion was caught on camera enjoying himself at a Florida beach on Sunday, where he was spotted jet skiing before cuddling up to an unknown dark-haired woman - who was not his long-term partner Dee Devlin. ‌ The 37-year-old was photographed laying out a towel for the mystery lady before wrapping his arm around her shoulders, with The Sun reporting the 'Notorious' appeared to relish the attention from female admirers nearby. ‌ The explosive images quickly went viral across social media before McGregor was in the spotlight again when rapper Azealia Banks took to social media to post photos which allegedly showed a naked McGregor lifting weights with his penis. And McGregor later took to social media himself to make his first comments since the drama. In a post uploaded to social media, the UFC legend opted AGAINST addressing the incident and instead wished himself a happy birthday. Taking X - formerly known as Twitter - he wrote: "Happy birthday to me," reports All Out Fighting. McGregor celebrated turning 37 on Monday amid the fresh scandals, though his long-standing fiancee Dee appears to be standing by her man despite the compromising photographs. Devlin and McGregor, who have been engaged since 2020, are proud parents to four children. ‌ The couple first crossed paths as teenagers in a nightclub, and Devlin has been a constant support throughout McGregor's MMA career. Following McGregor's recent controversy, his fiancee shared a fan account's birthday message on social media that said: "Happy Birthday to the person who always keeps Dee entertained and makes her smile." She then posted a series of photos of herself with McGregor. Last year, four years into their engagement, McGregor opened up about their wedding plans, expressing his eagerness to tie the knot with Devlin. He said: "My lady is my long-time lady," and continued, "We are set to get married soon, we are just trying to find a location. I am ready to go; we are just trying to get a location." ‌ "Is it at home? I'd like for it to be at home. We are deciding on a location. Hopefully, we get the marriage done, and that is what I'm looking forward to. These are the decisions we have. I go between do we want an extreme and extravagant. It will be extravagant and I will spare no cost for sure for my lady and my family but is it invite everyone or is it private, these are the things we are trying to figure out. We are private people but we wouldn't like to do it and think we should have done it a bit bigger. So we are in decision mode at moment, but let's see, things are good. But that's my lady all the way, the highs or lows before all of this." When is Conor McGregor's next fight? McGregor has been out of action since his defeat to Dustin Poirier in 2021. His anticipated bout with ex-Bellator champ Michael Chandler last year was scrapped due to an injury he sustained while training. The Irish fighter's last victory inside the octagon was against Donald Cerrone at welterweight in 2020. Despite a lengthy hiatus, the 37-year-old has now declared that he plans to make a return to the UFC at their White House event next year. Many fans had lost faith in McGregor's return to mixed martial arts, but the Dubliner has hinted at yet another comeback. At a press conference for a Bare Knuckle FC event, where McGregor holds co-ownership, he dropped a bombshell announcement. He stated: "It's looking like I'm headed to the Oval Office again. That's where I'm headed next." The crowd responded to his revelation with enthusiastic applause.

Prince William reunion with Prince Harry 'in balance due to Kate Middleton issue'

A royal expert has claimed that, while a reunion between the King and Prince Harry could be on the cards, it could be a completely different story when trying to mend the rift between Harry and William Peace talks between King Charles and Prince Harry are reportedly underway, and while many are hoping for a reconciliation within the royal family, a royal commentator has claimed that while a reunion between Charles and Harry could be on the cards, it may be a lot harder for the Duke of Sussex to mend the rift with his brother, Prince William. News of the potential reconciliation came just last week, when talks were held between Prince Harry 's chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, and King Charles's communications secretary, Tobyn Andreae. The Sussexes' PR representative in the UK, Liam Maguire, was also present for the meeting in London, which took place just moments away from Clarence House. ‌ ‌ Prince Harry has recently made public his desire to bury the hatchet with his family, saying in a tell-all interview with the BBC in May that he 'would love a reconciliation' with the King and Prince William, as he admitted that he was tired of fighting, and he worried about Charles' health because he did 'not know how much longer [his] father has.' While many are holding out hope that King Charles and Prince Harry will reunite after years of their tumultuous relationship seemingly seeing no end, one royal commentator is less convinced of a harmonious reunion between Prince Harry and his older brother, Prince William. Royal biographer Hugo Vickers said that while there is definitely hope for the Duke of Sussex to mend his relationship with his father, there could be a lot more work required to patch things up with William, after public comments made about both William and Kate have had a lasting impact. ‌ Vickers told The Sun: "So as for William. It's much more difficult because the barbs were sent in his direction from Prince Harry, but very much directed towards Catherine. That is very insulting, and I think William is likely to be more of an unforgiving person than his father." The comments in question largely came from Harry's memoir Spare, in which he recalled several moments of opposition between Princess Kate and Meghan Markle. In the autobiography, Harry made allegations towards Kate that she had made Meghan cry over an issue with Princess Charlotte's dress for Harry and Meghan's wedding. ‌ He also wrote that Princess Kate had been 'forced to compete' with Meghan in the eyes of the press, putting a huge strain on the relationship between the two women, and in turn, Prince Harry and Prince William. Mr Vickers added: "I think at the moment, if I was advising Prince Harry, I would say, get onto good terms with your father as soon as possible, and then that's step one and step two, try to get on good terms with your brother." Prince Harry is next due to visit the UK in September, which could mean the first time meeting his father in 18 months if the talks of a reunion are to come to fruition. While it remains unclear who made the first move between the estranged father and son to make amends via their communications teams, the meeting is being hailed as the clearest sign yet that both camps are keen to bury the hatchet after years of explosive interviews and family heartache.
