
MACC to call up 20 more witnesses in data centre graft case
MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Zainul Darus said that, so far, they have recorded statements from 12 individuals in connection with the case.
He said the three suspects – the project manager of a construction company and two company directors – arrested by MACC are still under remand, while a female suspect was released on Sunday after her remand order ended.
'So far, there have been no new arrests in this case,' he said yesterday, Bernama reported.
The media previously reported that a project manager detained for the corruption case was willing to burn almost RM1mil in cash to destroy evidence during an MACC raid on July 17.
According to sources, during the raid conducted at his home in Petaling Jaya, a team of officers found RM100 banknotes totalling almost RM1mil in flames.
Following a thorough inspection of the home, the MACC also found cash totalling approximately RM7.5mil stored in several boxes, three Rolex, Omega and Cartier watches, as well as jewellery such as rings and gold coins.

Perak MACC nabs two statutory corp officers over alleged false claims
IPOH: Two statutory corporation officers have been detained by the Perak Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly submitting false claim documents amounting to about RM45,000. According to sources, the two suspects, a female in her 40s and a male in his 30s, were detained at the state MACC headquarters when giving their statements. The female suspect was arrested on July 22 at about 6.30pm while the other suspect was arrested on Wednesday (July 23) at about 5pm. Initial investigation found that both suspects were believed to have conspired when submitting the claims for a programme purportedly held in a district in Perak, but was found to have not been held. When contacted, Perak MACC director Datuk Ahmad Sabri Mohamed confirmed the matter and said that the case would be investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act. He reminded all parties, especially heads of departments, to strengthen systems and procedures as well as governance in their respective departments in financial management to prevent irregularities.

Perak MACC nabs 2 civil servants over RM45,000 false claim
IPOH: The Perak Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a district department head and her subordinate for allegedly submitting a false claim amounting to RM45,000 in relation to the implementation of a departmental training programme. According to sources, the woman, in her 40s, was arrested at 6.30pm on Tuesday, followed by the detention of the second suspect, a man in his 30s, at 5pm yesterday. Both individuals were reportedly detained at the Perak MACC office here after voluntarily presenting themselves to assist in the ongoing investigation. Perak MACC director Datuk Ahmad Sabri Mohamed confirmed the arrests when contacted, adding that further investigations were underway. He said the investigation into both civil servants was being conducted under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009, which pertains to false claims and carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment or a fine of five times the amount involved, upon conviction. "All parties, particularly department heads, are reminded to strengthen financial systems and procedures within their departments to prevent any form of misconduct or abuse of power," he said.

Businessman claims trial over acquisition of 'Dato' title
KOTA KINABALU: A businessman pleaded not guilty at the Special Corruption Sessions Court today to three counts of cheating over alleged acquisition of a "Dato'" title. Datuk Ling How Ee, 40, entered the plea after the charges were read in Mandarin before Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga. Ling was accused of deceiving Dennis Chong and inducing him (Chong) to transfer RM2,500, RM500 and RM3,000 into the accused's account, The money was allegedly for the purchase of gold accessories for ceremonial attire, for the accused to assist in obtaining a honorary title carrying the title "Dato'" from Pahang despite having no authority to do so. The offences were allegedly committed on April 19, 2023, April 20, 2023, and May 17, 2023 at the HSBC Bank branch in Kota Kinabalu. The accused was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than ten years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction. The court fixed Sept 3, for pre-trial case management. The accused was granted bail of RM10,000 with one surety. The court also ordered that the accused report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office once every two months, surrender his passport to the court. He is also prohibited from approaching or interfering with prosecution witnesses throughout the duration of the case. The prosecution was led by MACC's Nurul Izzati Sapifee while Ling was represented by Ngui Kuang Kee @ George Ngui.
