Man dies after being dragged by train at Hamburg central station
The overnight incident saw the 26-year-old kicking the train as it approached the station. He then lost his balance and got trapped in the gap between the train and the platform, police said on Friday.
The man's brother was also present and witnessed the accident, according to police. He suffered from shock and was brought to hospital.
Emergency teams cleared the local train and the platform, with emergency counselling provided to 13 bystanders. Police have ruled out foul play after reviewing video footage of the incident. — Bernama-dpa

On Thursday, the Paris appeals court overturned earlier convictions against the two women for spreading false claims—that went viral online—that Brigitte Macron, 72, used to be a man. Disinformation on Macron's gender has circulated on social media for years. Her 24-year age difference with President Emmanuel Macron has also attracted much comment. Brigitte Macron filed a libel complaint against the two women after they posted a YouTube video in December 2021, alleging she had once been a man named Jean-Michel Trogneux—who is actually Brigitte Macron's brother. In the video, defendant Amandine Roy, a self-proclaimed spiritual medium, interviewed Natacha Rey, a self-described independent journalist, for four hours on her YouTube channel. Rey spoke about the 'state lie' and 'scam' she claimed to have uncovered that Jean-Michel Trogneux had changed gender to become Brigitte, and then married the future president. The claim went viral, including among conspiracy theorists in the United States. A lower court in September last year had ordered the two women to pay 8,000 euros ($9,400) in damages to Brigitte Macron, and 5,000 euros to her brother. Brigitte Macron's lawyer Jean Ennochi told AFP Sunday that her brother, too, was taking his case against the dismissal of the charges to the highest appeals court, the Court de Cassation. — AFP

(EPA Images pic) BILBAO : Athletic Bilbao's Yeray Alvarez has been provisionally suspended due to a failed doping test after a Europa League game against Manchester United, with the defender saying he unintentionally ingested a banned substance in medicine used to treat hair loss. Alvarez said he had tested positive after Bilbao's 3-0 home defeat in the semi-finals of Uefa's second-tier club competition in May. The Spanish side also lost the return leg 4-1. The 30-year-old centreback was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2016 and said he had been taking the medicine as part of his treatment for alopecia. 'After studying the case, we have established that I tested positive because I unintentionally took a hair loss prevention medicine containing a banned substance,' Alvarez said in a social media post yesterday. 'The disciplinary procedure is currently under investigation and subject to confidentiality, so I am provisionally suspended and am not authorised to make any further public statements. 'I would like to say to all of you that I very much regret this situation but, with the support of the club, I am working on my defence in the belief that I will be able to return to the field of play as soon as possible.' Uefa said they would not comment on the case until a final disciplinary decision had been made. Bilbao threw their full support behind Alvarez, who came through the club's youth academy and has made 257 appearances in all competitions for the senior team.

Russia claims Ukrainian drones hit training centre at Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant

(AP pic) KYIV : Ukrainian drones attacked a training centre at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant on Sunday evening, the Russian-installed administration of the Russia-held plant in Ukraine said on Monday. 'The enemy used three unmanned aerial vehicles,' the administration said on the Telegram messaging app. It added that 'no critical' damage was recorded. Reuters could not independently verify the Russian report. The report comes a day after the United Nations nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, said that it had heard hundreds of rounds of small arms fire late on Saturday at the plant. Russian forces seized the Zaporizhzhia plant in the first weeks of Russia's February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Each side regularly accuses the other of firing or taking other actions that could trigger a nuclear accident. The station, Europe's biggest nuclear power plant, is not operating but still requires power to keep its nuclear fuel cool. The plant's Russia-installed management said in its statement that the station 'continues to operate normally, with all necessary safety precautions in place.'
