"Nice Shirt": US Border Patrol Mocks Arrested Migrant Wearing American Flag T-Shirt

Washington:
An illegal immigrant was arrested by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Friday in New York. But it wasn't just the arrest that caught attention. The T-shirt he was wearing stole the spotlight.
The federal agency on X (formerly Twitter) said that they have arrested an illegal immigrant at the Peace Bridge in New York. CBP also mocked him for wearing a T-shirt featuring the American flag.
"Nice shirt! But it doesn't erase the fact that you entered the country illegally, the agency wrote.

CBP further mentioned that the unidentified man also has a prior criminal history, including multiple DUI offences and a misdemeanour assault charge. The post concluded, "Criminal illegal aliens have no place in the US."
The arrest comes weeks after US President Donald Trump said that more people should be deported, especially from areas like Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York.
In a Truth Social post, he wrote, "I have directed my entire Administration to put every resource possible behind this effort."
The government has implemented a two-track plan, one focused on arrests and deportations, particularly of individuals with criminal records, and the other encouraging self-deportation through voluntary registration programs.
The government has also introduced the CBP Home app, which allows migrants to notify authorities of their intention to depart the country. This means they can leave the country without facing arrest or detention. In addition to this, the government assists eligible migrants in booking flights and offers a $1,000 exit bonus.
Last week, the federal agency arrested 361 illegal immigrants during raids at two marijuana farms in Southern California, according to the New York Post.

Gangs of midnight: Spate of burglaries rattle residents, baffles cops

Jaipur: From villas to apartments to donation boxes, burglars across the city are striking with growing boldness—smashing windows, cutting wires, and vanishing into the night. While the loot piles up, police responses in many cases have reportedly boiled down to one line: "Be cautious. A gang is on the prowl." In one of the most alarming incidents, six masked intruders—clad only in undergarments, in the fashion of the notorious "kachha-baniyan" gang—tried to break into a house in Ganesh Nagar under Muhana police station limits on Tuesday midnight. Armed with torches, the gang scaled the compound wall and peered into the house, accidentally waking an elderly woman sleeping in the hall. She raised the alarm. In response, the gang shattered two windows and began pelting stones. But as the family shouted back, the masked men fled into the night. It wasn't a one-off. On Tuesday in Mahapura under Bhankrota police station, three men armed with a long stick cut through the barbed wire fence of a gated apartment complex and casually wandered through the compound. A few houses away, another resident reported gold coins missing after a break-in by unidentified burglars. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The break-ins stretch across the city's map—and escalate in boldness. In Kanota, on July 28, an FIR reported a house stripped clean: gold and silver jewellery, three mobile phones, a sewing machine, and Rs 28,000 in cash gone in one sweep. In Shivdaspura, thieves broke into a Hanuman temple, dragged the donation box outside, smashed it open with a crowbar, and made off with offerings and silver ornaments. Even public infrastructure hasn't been spared. In Jyoti Nagar, thieves reportedly stole decorative lighting from the Bharat Jodo Setu bridge. The FIR, filed on Wednesday, hints at how deep the rot runs. And yet, in one reported case, when residents went to lodge a complaint, officials allegedly advised them to "be careful" and "lock your doors"—suggesting that even police acknowledge a pattern but have few answers. While police claim surveillance and patrols are being intensified, residents say the problem continues. Supriya criticises delay in road repairs in Hinjewadi despite CM's assurances

Pune: NCP (SP) working president and Baramati MP Supriya Sule on Saturday expressed disappointment over the lack of progress in road repairs in Hinjewadi and surrounding areas, despite assurances from chief minister Devendra Fadnavis at a meeting held on July 10. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Supriya reminded the state govt that the CM promised necessary decisions for road improvement would be made within 15 days. "It has been more than 20 days, and no visible action has been taken. The road conditions remain the same — full of potholes, making it extremely difficult to drive," she said. She also raised concerns over the overall state of civic amenities in the area. "Not just roads, but several basic facilities are in a poor state. The govt must honour its commitment and act within a definite timeframe," she said. Her office told TOI that a formal letter will be sent to the chief minister's office regarding the issue. Taiwan to face economic risk as US mulls semiconductor tariffs under Trump proposal: Think tank

ANI Taiwan is bracing for a significant economic challenge as US President Donald Trump threatens to impose a tariff on semiconductors, according to the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (CIER), reported by Focus industry is central to the island's exports and overall economy. Information and communication technology (ICT) products account for over 70% of Taipei's exports to the United States, according to the CIER. CIER President Lien Hsien-ming told CNA on Friday that Taiwan's dependence on semiconductors is notably higher than that of other countries. "He said compared with other countries, the semiconductor industry carries a heavier weighting for Taiwan in terms of industrial and economic development. In 2024, Taiwan recorded a trade surplus of $73.9 billion with the United States, up from $47.8 billion in 2023, largely driven by strong American demand for AI servers and semiconductors during the ongoing artificial intelligence boom. "I think Trump really cares about a trade deficit resulting from purchases of high tech gadgets such as semiconductors," Lien said, referring to a US investigation launched in April under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, targeting ICT products--especially semiconductors--as part of a possible new tariff regime."As ICT products make up more than 70 percent of Taiwan's exports to the US, a tariff on semiconductors could have a bigger impact on Taiwan's economy than the 20 percent blanket tariff the White House announced Thursday," Lien newly announced blanket tariff rate was lowered from 32%, previously suggested by Trump on April response, President Lai Ching-te said the 20% tariff was provisional and that Taiwan would continue negotiations with the US to secure a lower rate. Taiwan's negotiating team will also address the semiconductor issue directly with their American counterparts. Lai's statements reflect a growing focus within the Taiwanese government on the potential threat posed by a targeted semiconductor tariff."Lai's remarks show the government is focused on a possible tariff on semiconductors as such a levy could threaten Taiwan's economy," Lien said, according to the Focus Vice President Chen Shin-horng echoed Lien's concerns, saying that based on current US negotiation tactics, targeted tariffs on specific industries like semiconductors are likely to be steeper than general blanket added that Trump appears to be leveraging Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act as a strategic tool to push for major foreign investments in the the US may be aware that foreign chipmakers are unlikely to launch new production facilities in the short term, tariffs could still be phased in gradually.A tariff under the clause could be set at a lower level at the beginning and gradually increased over the next two to three years, Chen Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC), currently investing $65 billion in Arizona with an additional $100 billion pledged, has already warned the US government that proposed tariffs on Taiwanese semiconductors could significantly undermine demand and disrupt its investment strategy."New import restrictions could jeopardize current US leadership in the competitive technology industry and create uncertainties for many committed semiconductor capital projects in the US, including TSMC Arizona's significant investment plan in Phoenix," the chipmaker wrote in a letter to the US Department of Commerce in May, according to the Focus Taiwan. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said in late July that results of the ongoing investigation will be announced within two weeks, ahead of any final decision on semiconductor tariffs.
