Sg Linggi poised for ecotourism spotlight
The Melaka Chief Minister said the Sungai Linggi Eco Cruise is expected to be launched on Sept 1 and will be promoted as a fresh tourism product for the state.
'This is a brand new package – one on a classically themed boat – offering a river journey and showcasing Sungai Linggi's natural beauty,' he said after launching the state government's monthly assembly at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh here yesterday.
The event is organised by the Melaka River and Beach Development Corporation (PPSPM).
Ab Rauf said PPSPM will also be rolling out other new tourism products.
He said the Melaka sea cruise, featuring island-hopping and snorkelling packages, as well as a premium cruise experience, are among the latest attractions.
'Additionally, two more products under PPSPM will soon be introduced in Jasin, namely the Sungai Rambai Eco Cruise and a boat service at Tasik Chinchin.
'These packages are designed to highlight the scenic charm of Melaka's rivers and lakes,' he said.
Commenting further about the Sungai Linggi Eco Cruise, Ab Rauf said visitors can look forward to an hour's river cruise from the mouth of Sungai Linggi to the Telok Berembang jetty, with meal packages also available.
'This new attraction will offer a relaxing cruise experience complemented by dining options for visitors,' he added.

Melaka waives business licence fees for 1,300 petty traders hit by storm
MELAKA: The Historic Melaka City Council (MBMB) is offering a special incentive in the form of a three-month exemption from business licence fees to 1,300 petty traders under 10 main organisers following a recent storm. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the measure will be implemented when they apply for the renewal of their MBMB licences later. He said this involves 500 petty traders at Jonker Walk, Uptown Klebang Walk (280), Uptown Pahlawan Walk (195), Medan Samudera, Floating Market and Vintage Night Market (80 each). "In addition, Tun Teja and Harbour Street Market (50 petty traders each), Tun Mamat Kampung Morten (40), and Taman Bunga Merdeka (30). "The state government is very concerned about the difficulties faced by the traders and hopes this step will ease their financial burden and help revive the business operations affected," he said in a Facebook post here tonight. He added that in the spirit of solidarity, the state government also called on all organisers involved to consider offering additional incentives at their respective levels, such as a one-month site rental discount or any other form of appropriate assistance. "We stand together through hardship and ease. This is the caring Melaka that always puts the people first," he said.— BERNAMA

Melaka Rebrands Lohan Guava As MelGuv
MELAKA, June 29 (Bernama) -- The Lohan guava (GU16), a fruit synonymous with Melaka, has been rebranded as MelGuv, short for Melaka Guava. Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the rebranding marks a transformation and adds value to the state's agricultural sector, especially with the growing production of MelGuv. "MelGuv has a distinct flavour that is both sweet and crunchy, setting it apart from guavas grown in other regions. The largest plantation of MelGuv is located in Pulau Gadong. "Last year, 1,139 metric tonnes of the fruit were produced over 80 hectares in Melaka," he told reporters after closing the Melaka Agrofest 2025. Also present was the state Rural Development, Agriculture, and Food Security committee chairman, Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh. He said commercial guava cultivation in Melaka began in 2023, with annual production now exceeding 1,000 metric tonnes and continuing to grow each year. In conjunction with the three-day agrofest that began on Friday, 15,000 MelGuv fruits were distributed to visitors. Ab Rauf also reported RM1.05 million in sales and 41,842 visitors over the first two days, with attendance expected to rise on the final day. He added that the agrofest remains a vital platform to strengthen the agri-food sector, having evolved from its original form as the Farmers, Livestock Breeders, and Fishermen's Day, introduced in 1983.
