Sony's profit rises on robust performance for music, films and games
Annual sales were virtually unchanged, inching down to 12.957 trillion yen (£66 billion) from 13.020 trillion yen.
One area that lagged among Sony's sprawling businesses was the financial segment, where revenue stalled.
But its film division and its imaging and sensor solutions segment did well.
Among the films that fared positively at the box office for the fiscal year through March were Venom: The Last Dance, featuring the Marvel Comics superhero, and Bad Boys: Ride Or Die, an action comedy in which Will Smith and Martin Lawrence come back in their popular police roles, the fourth instalment in the series.
Sony, which makes the PlayStation console and game software played on that machine, also marked healthy results in the gaming business.
Its music operations, which also held up, include recordings, streaming services and music for games.
The top-selling recorded music project for the latest fiscal year globally was SZA's SOS Deluxe: LANA, followed by Beyonce, Future & Metro Boomin and Travis Scott.
For the Japan music business, the top-seller was Kenshi Yonezu's Lost Corner album, followed by offerings from Stray Kids and Six Tones.
For the January-March quarter, Sony posted a 197.7 billion yen (£1 billion) profit, up 5% from 189 billion yen in the same quarter in the previous fiscal year.
Sales were 2.6 trillion yen (£13.3 billion), down 24% from 3.48 trillion yen.
Sony is forecasting a nearly 13% drop in profit for the fiscal year through March 2026, to 930 billion yen (£4.75 billion), on 11.7 trillion yen (£61 billion) sales, down 2.9% on-year.
Sony stocks lost 3% in Tokyo morning trading.

Channel 4 announces new lifestyle shows including railway series with Si King
The four-part series, which has a working title of Top Of The Stops, will follow King, 58, as he explores the more than 2,600 train stations that make up the UK's railway system, meeting the people that keep the structures operating. Spector, 67, said: 'It's hard for people to make good dietary choices when what they're sold as 'healthy' food, in my view, can hardly be defined as food at all. 'I passionately believe that even quite modest changes to our diet can have a big impact on our health, and I cannot wait to get started on this new series where I'm going to try and change people's lives by changing what they eat.' Elsewhere, design expert George Clarke will offer help to homeowners facing design dilemmas in a new programme titled George Clarke's Kitchen Vs Garden. Clarke, 51, will be joined by garden design expert Luke Millard for the programme, which follows homeowners facing design dilemmas. Clarke said: 'This is a show that will inspire and help viewers to see the space they have in their homes differently. 'I know that the decisions involved in refurbishing them can be overwhelming so I'm excited to lend my expertise to help our renovators, and the viewers at home, to make the most of their spaces and create environments they'll love for years to come.' George Clarke's Kitchen Vs Garden starts on Wednesday August 13 at 8pm on Channel 4. Top Of The Stops will be available to watch on Channel 4 later this year and What Not To Eat will be broadcast in 2026. However, the original judge awarded just a £400,000 payout following a pre-nuptial agreement that stated the pair would keep their own assets. This came to £325,000 after he was made to pay his wife's legal fees. During an appeal, Simon claimed he was a victim of "gender prejudice", and that the agreement had been invalidated by Jenny failing to disclose around £48m in assets when he signed the document. Advertisement His lawyer said: "Had the positions been reversed, it is very unlikely that he would have... so ungenerously assessed the needs of a wife after a six-year relationship." A judge has ruled that this amounted to "fraudulent" behaviour, invalidating the agreement. While Jenny did disclose around £18m in assets, she failed to disclose an additional £47m.
