Sushil Kedia's ‘overreacted' apology after office vandalised over Raj Thackeray post
While saying that he had 'overreacted', Kedia stated that he was withdrawing his statements. 'My tweet happened in the wrong state of mind under duress and stress and now it is being manipulated to serve the interest of those who are looking to gain from this controversy,' the investor said.
He further said that the post had been made 'under pressure' after incidents of 'violence inflicted over those who do not know Marathi'.
'I realised I must take back my over-reactions and withdraw… I accept my mistake and request apology…' Kedia said. He further said that he hoped the 'environment' improves so that the Marathi can be accepted 'with ease'.
Kedia's Worli office was vandalised by unknown persons after he challenged MNS chief Raj Thackeray, while asserting that he would not learn Marathi. He then approached the Mumbai police after receiving threats on his post.
'I don't know Marathi properly even after living for 30 years in Mumbai & with your gross misconduct I have made it a resolve that until such people as you are allowed to pretend to be taking care of Marathi Manus I take pratigya I won't learn Marathi. Kya karna hai bol?' Kedia had said in his earlier post.
Following this, some individuals threw stones at his office in the morning, while raising slogans in support of MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Marathi.
The incident comes in the backdrop of a Marathi vs non-Marathi row in Maharashtra. Amid the row, Maharashtra Chief Minister Fadnavis on Friday said that the state government would not tolerate 'hooliganism in the name of language'.
Fadnavis was addressing the incident of violence in Thane's Bhayander, wherein a group of men wearing MNS scarves beat up a stall owner for not speaking in Marathi.

BJP objects to Minister not holding meeting over shortage of sand, laterite stones; threatens to intensify agitation
Objecting to Minister in charge of Dakshina Kannada district Dinesh Gundu Rao not holding any meeting with elected representatives to find out a solution to the shortage of sand and laterite stones in the district, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) threatened on Saturday that it will intensify its agitation to make the construction materials available to people. Addressing reporters here, Satish Kumpala, president of BJP Dakshina Kannada unit, said, 'Sand and laterite stones should be made available to people under the ambit of law.' Mr. Kumpala said that Mr. Rao spent a whole day in Mangaluru on Friday without discussing the matter related to the shortage of sand and laterite stones with MLAs, MLCs, and other elected representatives. Though the BJP had held protests over the shortage of construction materials and the matter was raised in the Karnataka Development Programme Review Committee meeting, Mr. Rao was not bothered to hold any meeting to find out a solution. If not, the party would intensify its agitation. Bharat Shetty said that the sand in question is thick and rough, which is not suitable for plastering of buildings. Dr. Shetty said that people need fine sand for construction purpose and claimed that they were not getting sand through the App. He said that Mr. Rao and U.T. Khader, Speaker of Legislative Assembly, have held meetings in Bengaluru on their own to discuss the matter without taking MLAs and MLCs of the district into confidence. To Be Taught Or Not: Fadnavis Vs Raj Thackeray Over Teaching Marathi In Maharashtra Schools
Raj Thackeray criticized CM Fadnavis for prioritizing Hindi over Marathi in schools and urged respect for Marathi culture and local youth in job opportunities. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray on Saturday attacked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis amid the ongoing language row and said the latter thinks about how schoolchildren can be taught Hindi but gives no thought to how those coming from outside to work in the state can learn Marathi. Addressing the Peasants and Workers Party foundation day event in Panvel, Thackeray also dared the state government to arrest those who protest against projects under the Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill. 'The chief minister of Maharashtra thinks about how schoolchildren can learn Hindi. But the CM does not think about how people, who come to Maharashtra for work, can learn Marathi," Thackeray said in the presence of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, who also addressed the gathering. His remarks come after Fadnavis reiterated that Marathi must be compulsorily taught in Maharashtra, and they have already made it mandatory. 'I firmly believe that Marathi must be compulsorily taught in Maharashtra, and we have already made it mandatory," he said. Thackeray also said there is no thought for 'bhoomiputra" (sons of the soil) and 'Marathi manoos" (Marathi speaking populace), and a terrifying example of it is the Raigad district. He further pointed out that the land is being taken from farmers, and asserted that industries in the state cannot be built on the tombs of the Marathi manoos. 'If you want to bring industries, you have to do it by respecting Marathi manoos. You cannot do that without it," Thackeray said. The MNS chief also asked how one can be dubbed parochial if one talks about their state. The remarks come days after Raj and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray shared a political stage last month after nearly two decades to celebrate the rollback of two contentious GRs on the three-language policy and 'imposition" of Hindi for students of classes 1-5. Referring to Raut and Sena (UBT), the MNS chief said 'two saffron flags" are furling on a red stage (the colour of PWP). Thackeray addressing the gathering also assumes significance as the NCP (SP), Sena (UBT) leaders, who are part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, were also present on stage. Referring to Raigad's rapid urbanisation, with satellite cities like Navi Mumbai and Panvel, Thackeray expressed concern that the land of farmers is being acquired, often with the involvement of local Marathi middlemen. Mumbai BJP unit likely to get new president ahead of BMC polls
The Mumbai unit of the BJP is likely to get a new president ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls in October/ November this year. At present, the Mumbai BJP president post is held by Ashish Shelar, who is the Maharashtra minister for Information and Technology, and also Cultural Affairs. Highly placed sources in the BJP said, 'At the internal meeting with top leadership, Shelar conveyed to the party that he would like to step down as the Mumbai BJP president.' Shelar had earlier served as Mumbai BJP president from 2013 to 2019, before holding the office again from 2022. He was inducted as a cabinet minister in the Devendra Fadnavis-led Mahayuti government in December 2024. A senior party functionary requesting anonymity said, 'The central and the state BJP units have made up their mind to appoint a new candidate for the Mumbai BJP president role. Several names are in the reckoning, including Amit Satam, Pravin Darekar, and Atul Bhatkhalkar.' In July, the BJP formally appointed former minister Ravindra Chavan as its state president. The party, it has been learnt, is in the process of finalising candidates for the new team under Chavan. A source said that with growing proximity between estranged cousins Uddhav Thackeray, chief of Shiv Sena (UBT), and Raj Thackeray, head of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, over the Marathi plank, the BJP wants to make sure it has a Marathi candidate heading the Mumbai BJP unit before the BMC polls. The source added that the party will do a balancing act by giving adequate representation to local North Indian and Gujarati leaders in the Mumbai team. In the last BMC elections held in 2017, the BJP and the undivided Shiv Sena fought against each other despite being partners in the ruling coalition in the state. The Shiv Sena won 84 seats, two more than the BJP, which finished at 82. After the elections, the BJP gave outside support to the Shiv Sena to form the board at the BMC.
