Spartan Race announces new Trifecta Weekend at Al Ain Zoo
To be held from October 11-12, 2025, the event will feature all three signature race formats across the weekend, allowing competitors to earn the Trifecta medal at one venue.
Both open and competitive heats will run for the Sprint, Beast, and Kids races.
Spartan Middle East brings obstacle course racing to Al Ain Zoo
The race schedule includes the Sprint 5K, featuring a 5km course with 20 obstacles. The Super 10K presents a 10km course with 25 obstacles, whilst the Beast 21K covers 21km with 30 obstacles.
Kids races will offer courses of 1km for ages 4-6, 1.5km for ages 7-9, and 3km for ages 9-14.
Participants can earn a Spartan Trifecta by completing the Sprint, Super, and Beast within a calendar year.
The weekend format allows racers to complete all three races over two days, earning a commemorative Trifecta medal alongside individual race wedges.
The course will run through Al Ain Zoo's grounds, positioning obstacles amongst elephants, giraffes, and other wildlife.
This marks the first time a Spartan race has taken place within a zoo environment.
The Abu Dhabi Sports Council supports the event, continuing a partnership that has promoted obstacle course racing across the emirate.
Abu Dhabi hosts the annual Spartan World Championship, which attracts over 6,000 participants and has contributed to the sport's growth in the region.
Isla Watt, Director of Spartan Middle East, said in a statement: 'We are incredibly excited to bring a full Trifecta Weekend to a venue as spectacular as Al Ain Zoo. The combination of our challenging races and this stunning natural environment creates a truly memorable event. We encourage participants and their families to make a weekend of it, explore the garden city of Al Ain, and experience a Spartan event like no other.'

It feels like they've taken real feedback seriously and built the game around what the players actually want.' 'Fun, not frustration' Not everyone is in it for the wins. For UAE-based content creator Bibi Zumot, FIFA has always been more about comfort than competition. And in FC 26, he sees a smoother, more player-friendly experience. 'The gameplay feels more fluid… especially the dribbling and passing. It doesn't feel as clunky or frustrating as previous years,' he says. 'I've been playing since 2012, and this is the first time in a while it looks like a true upgrade.' For Saqr_fut, an Emirati content creator, tournament organizer, and M7 Esports partner, FC 26 is under a massive spotlight — and not just because of the gameplay trailer. 'After FC 25, the whole community had complaints — bugs, gameplay issues, broken mechanics. EA even showed those complaints in the teaser for FC 26, which is rare,' says Saqr. But acknowledging criticism is only the first step. Expectations are high and patience is thin. 'People are saying it looks faster, better, more responsive. Fans are excited. But if the problems continue, this could be the last chance. A lot of players might leave the game for good.' Sultan Khalifa, a lifelong fan of the series, says the upcoming release represents more than just a technical upgrade. 'Every year we hope for improvements, but FC 26 just feels… different. The presentation, the atmosphere — it feels more alive,' he says. Sultan is particularly drawn to Career Mode, where EA has introduced Manager Live, a dynamic hub with rotating challenges inspired by real-world football. But for him, the soul of the game lies in the social moments it creates. 'It's always been about playing with siblings and friends, the late-night matches, the banter. That's what makes this game special.' And then, there's also the return of Brazil football team which has been absent in previous editions due to licensing issues. 'I might not play with them personally, but it's huge. Brazil is football. Their history, their style, their energy — having them back just makes FC 26 feel more complete.' With esports viewership on the rise in the UAE and regional tournaments gaining traction, EA SPORTS FC 26 launches into a highly engaged, increasingly vocal market. For creators like 88K and Saqr, it's about pushing EA to be better. And this time, it seems like EA is actually listening. 'We are players too,' said John Shepherd, EA SPORTS FC VP & GM, in the official announcement. 'This year brings an overhauled gameplay experience… and a Career Mode that comes alive through evolving challenges.' This initiative is held in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and under the umbrella of Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP). In attendance on the opening day were Saeed Al Dhaheri, Destination Management Department Director at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, Tareq Al Bahri, General Manager of International Vision Sports Management; and H.E. Kenneth Milimo Nganga, Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the UAE. Day one featured matches in the professional divisions through to the semi-final stage. Athletes delivered intense and high-level performances in front of an enthusiastic audience, with many grabbing their spots in the finals and a chance to earn 2,000 AJP ranking points along with lucrative cash prizes. 'We witnessed outstanding performances today from competitors in the professional divisions. Their advanced techniques and vast experience reflect years of dedication to the sport.' Abdullah Saqr Abdullah, an athlete from M.O.D Academy competing in the 85 kg professional division, said, 'We began preparing for this championship well in advance, knowing it would be a high-level and brand-new competition that demands great focus. That raises the level of challenge, especially as we aim to earn as many ranking points as possible. The matches today have been extremely competitive, with a large number of participants, which pushes us to give even more to secure victory.' The official championship shirt was unveiled during a press conference at ADNEC Centre Al Ain yesterday, and the championship continues tomorrow (Saturday), with action set to intensify as the youth and amateur divisions get underway. The final day promises to deliver even more excitement, with the playoffs and finals determining the top names in global grappling.
