Anthony Edwards, Adidas are releasing new football cleats
Prior to his arrival as the NBA's next rising superstar, Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards also had dreams of making highlight-reel plays on the gridiron. Being a standout football player from a young age, it comes as no surprise that Anthony Edwards could manage becoming a dual-sport athlete, but given his massive success in The Association, he'll have to keep dreaming about a life out on the field. This upcoming season, Edwards and Adidas will partner for an upcoming signature football cleat.

During the NFL season, we saw a huge uptick in the trend of players wearing customized sneakers-turned-cleats during their games on Sundays. Eagles' Jalen Hurts was consistently rocking the newest Air Jordan footwear on the field, while players like Stefon Diggs and Tyreek Hill continued to show out with their custom creations.
Minnesota Vikings' receiver Jordan Addison was actually the first player to bust out a custom pair of Adidas AE 1 cleats as an homage to his fellow Minnesota star Anthony Edwards. The shoes seamlessly made the transition to the football field and now, Adidas has plans to release the cleats to the public.
Adidas AE 1 Football Cleats
After building a reputation as 2024's hottest basketball sneaker of the year, the shoes eventually made their debut in other sports like baseball and football. This upcoming football cleat will use the Adidas AE 1 'Stormtrooper' as a base for the upper, complete with Adidas Football cleat technology along the outsoles.

We see a neon green Adidas logo along the back heel, true to the original sneaker release. The shoes will continue to feature a mesh boot underneath the molded TPU upper, so wearers should be getting all the performance capabilities on the field as they would have on the basketball court. The cleats will be done in the same TPU material and offer a seamless transition from the upper down to the outsole.
The Adidas AE 1 football cleats are expected to debut June 2026 and will come with at a retail tag that is still to be determined. Expect the shoes to become available on Adidas as well as Adidas Football retailers all over the country.

Liverpool plan Diogo Jota memorial sculpture at Anfield and tribute emblem on playing shirts
Liverpool have unveiled plans for a memorial sculpture at Anfield as the focal point for a permanent tribute to Diogo Jota. Arne Slot's players will wear a 'Forever 20' emblem on their shirts and stadium jackets for the duration of the 2025-26 season and the LFC Foundation, the club's official charity, will launch a grassroots football programme in Jota's name. The memorial — including flowers, shirts, scarfs, hats, works of art, flags and banners — has been gradually removed by club staff over the course of the last week, separated and safely stored. Liverpool are yet to commit to a specific design but a No 20 is among the options mooted. In the meantime, a temporary area of reflection has been created outside Anfield's Main Stand so supporters can continue to pay their respects. During the pre-season tour of Asia, the players will take to the field with a specially designed 'Diogo J 20' patch on their shirts. Floral tributes will also be laid before kick-off at the friendly matches in Hong Kong, Yokohama and Anfield. The 'Forever 20′ emblem will feature on the bottom seem of the players' new kit following the switch from Nike to Adidas on August 1. Supporters wanting to honour the Portugal international by having 'Diogo J 20' printed on the back of their shirts can get it done in club shops or via the official online store with all profits going to the LFC Foundation. The main commemoration, including a special fan mosaic and a minute's silence, is planned for the first game of the Premier League season against Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday August 15. Liverpool announced earlier this month that they were permanently retiring the No 20 shirt at all levels of the club in memory of Jota, who scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for the club.

How Liverpool can afford to sign Alexander Isak this summer
Liverpool have been very active in the ongoing summer transfer window. The Reds broke their club transfer record when they brought in Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £116.5 million. Jeremie Frimpong, Armin Pecsi, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili and most recently Hugo Ektike have also arrived at Anfield, taking their spending to £269m so far. Given their big outlay this summer, it appears Liverpool will not be able to sign Newcastle United's Alexander Isak. The Merseyside titans communicated their interest in Isak, but with Newcastle adamant the player was not for sale, they did not submit a formal bid. The latest is Isak is actively pushing to leave Newcastle, but there are doubts whether Liverpool's finances allow them to spend a huge fee for the Sweden international. However, the Reds' supporters will be absolutely delighted to hear that their club can afford to spend another £200m and still be compliant with the PSR rules. This is according to the Daily Mail (July 26, Page 104) who estimated their total income this year at £385m. Liverpool have been frugal in the previous three transfer windows. Unlike the other big clubs, they signed only one player (Federico Chiesa) for £10m last summer. Winning the Premier League last season means Arne Slot's side banked £174.9m in prize money and around £83.8m for their run to the last 16 of the Champions League. Furthermore, their kit deal with Adidas, starting on August 1, is reportedly worth more than £60m per year. Liverpool have already raised £66m with the sales of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarrel Quansah, Nat Phillips and Caoimhin Kelleher. They could further boost their spending power if they manage to sell Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz. It becomes clear Liverpool can afford to sign Isak, but it remains to be seen whether they can tempt Newcastle into selling their best player this summer.

Boston Celtics alum Sam Vincent named Libyan National Team coach for 2025 FIBA AfroBasket
Former Boston Celtics point guard Sam Vincent has been named the head coach of the Libyan National Team for the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket, per a release from FIBA. The event, the 24th edition of the FIBA Africa Championship, will take place from this August 12 to August 26 this summer, is the men's continental basketball championship series played by all of the senior national teams of Africa, and is played once every four years. Vincent, drafted by the Celtics out of Michigan State with the 20th overall pick of the 1985 NBA Draft, won a title with Boston in 1986 during his two seasons with the Celtics. He would later play for the Seattle SuperSonics, Chicago Bulls, and Orlando Magic before finishing his playing career in Greece. The East Lansing, Michigan native has also had a successful coaching career, working both abroad and in the NBA and collegiate ranks. With Libya, Vincent builds on prior experience coaching on the continent, having previously led the Nigerian Women's National Team to their (and the inaugural African team) to win their first Olympic game in 2004.
