Man gets RM500 fine for letting friend die from treatable wounds
Magistrate Amalina Basirah Md Top also ordered the accused, Oon Tien Yue, be jailed for a month if he fails to pay the fine, The New Straits Times reported.
Oon negligently failed to seek medical treatment for Law Mun How, 37, in a manner that endangered the latter's life at a house in Jalan Perdana 6/5, Pandan Perdana, between 10.33am on June 20 and 7.50pm on June 22.
The victim, who was seriously injured after allegedly being assaulted, had been sleeping in a car in front of the accused's house from June 14 to 20.
On June 22, the accused brought the victim into the house, but left him in the living room without seeking treatment.
A post-mortem on June 23 revealed that the cause of death was infected wounds, with bacterial infection in body tissues, including the skin and muscles.
Deputy public prosecutor M. Ramanathan Alias Ashwin urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence due to the seriousness of the case.
Oon, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency, saying he is responsible for the care of his elderly parents.

Nilai police probe RM1.4m scam after businessman falls for fake app investment
SEREMBAN, July 22 — A businessman suffered losses of over RM1 million after falling victim to a non-existent online investment scheme in April. Nilai police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said the police received a report from the man, in his 50s, at 4.22 pm yesterday at the Pantai police station. 'The victim claimed he had dealings with an individual who offered the scheme on April 29 and was attracted to invest after being promised high returns. 'He was then instructed to download a mobile application called 'CDT MAX' before transferring money into seven different bank accounts provided for the investment. A total of 15 transactions were made, amounting to RM1,449,750,' he said in a statement. Abdul Malik added that the victim realised he had been scammed when he was asked to make additional payments in order to withdraw his so-called investment profits. Local man dies after being crushed by 4WD during repair job in Miri workshop
MIRI, July 22 — A local man has died after he was crushed by a four-wheel-drive vehicle while performing maintenance work at a workshop located behind a petrol station at Piasau here yesterday. Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed the incident in a statement, saying a police report was lodged at the Miri Central Police Station following the fatal accident. 'The case is being investigated as a sudden death report (SDR),' he said, adding that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He urged members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation. Kite string slices motorcyclist's neck in freak accident on MRR2 near Kepong park
KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 — A motorcyclist was injured in the neck after being ensnared in a kite string while riding along Jalan Lingkaran Tengah 2, heading towards Sri Damansara near Kepong Metropolitan Lake Garden yesterday. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said that in the 6pm incident, the 27-year-old victim was riding his motorcycle in the middle lane when his body snagged a kite string, which cut his neck before the string snapped. 'The victim then stopped by the roadside and sought treatment at a polyclinic in Selayang for rope friction burns to his neck,' he said in a statement here today. Mohd Zamzuri said the case is being investigated under Section 80 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for placing objects across the road, obstructing traffic. Earlier, a 41-second video recorded by the victim went viral on social media, showing an injury to his neck caused by a kite string.
