Elderly Malukazi stalwart recognised as Unsung Hero

Adam's story began in Malukazi where he was born and raised. His love for soccer emerged in school and he quickly distinguished himself as a talented and disciplined player.
His passion for soccer led him to play for Protea Power at age 14, where he honed integral values of teamwork and perseverance. He represented Clairwood and Natal High Schools and was selected for the Mid-South Coast and Isipingo District Football Association (IDFA), serving as captain during his 10th year with the IDFA Southern Natal Soccer Board.
While the talent was clearly there, he made the tough choice to forgo a professional contract due to financial constraints. His love for sport never diminished, though, and he is still playing and coaching in the Isipingo Junior Soccer Academy after three decades. There, he keeps fit and imparts his wisdom to flourishing football talents.
He plays for Isipingo Soccer Veterans in the golden oldies league and plays matches for the over-60 side.
He said that he maintains his fitness through training and coaching children at the academy.

'I play and exercise with them. God willing, I plan to keep this up for as long as I can,' said Adam. He encouraged young players to embrace the outdoors and play sport.
'Your mind and body will thank you. It is not just about staying fit. It is about building friendships, learning discipline, and the joy of pushing your limits while having fun. Balance screen time with active play,' he advised.
Outside of sport, Adam has dedicated his life to uplifting his community. He was a founding member of the Malukazi Feeding Scheme, through which he ensures food security for vulnerable families. He converted part of his family's property into a clinic to provide much-needed healthcare to his community. Adam also played a pivotal role in establishing a school in Malukazi to promote fair access to education.

He wrote: 'It was one fat party from mid-evening to the next afternoon. I enjoyed the company of let's say, more than one woman. 'The girls were really up for it .. Hope School learner represents SA at World Boccia Championships in Egypt
In a powerful display of perseverance and passion, Sheena Nonhlanhla Hwami, a learner at Hope School in Westcliff, proudly represented South Africa at the World Boccia Africa Regional Championships in Cairo, Egypt, held from July 29 to August 3. Played indoors on a smooth court, the game challenges players to throw or roll coloured balls as close as possible to a small white ball, the jack. It demands not only physical control but also sharp strategy and focus. Players are grouped into classes BC1 to BC4, with Sheena competing in the BC3 category, which includes athletes who use assistive devices to play. Born with muscular dystrophy, Sheena has never let her condition define her. She first encountered boccia in primary school, though she admits it took time to fully grasp the rules and spirit of the game. It was only in high school that her passion truly took root. 'It wasn't easy at all,' she shared. 'But determination, consistency, and hard work became my priorities. This accomplishment is the result of that effort. I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have been given and for the words of encouragement: 'Never give up. You never know how far you can go; just keep pushing forward.' At the Cairo championships, Sheena made her international debut. Despite a tough opening match against fellow South African Elanza Jordaan, which ended in a loss, Sheena bounced back with impressive composure. In her second game, she secured a narrow but inspiring 3–2 win over Tunisia's Ben Laou Lina. 'Reaching the point where I could represent my country was a proud moment for me,' said Sheena. 'The fact that I could do it again reminded me of what I'm capable of.' Sheena's journey is just beginning, but her spirit and success already speak volumes.
