Ben Stokes ruled out of crunch final Test against India
The injury is a muscle tear that will require six to seven weeks to fully repair, with Stokes prioritising his fitness for the upcoming Ashes series.
Stokes' absence is one of four changes made to the England squad for the Test at The Oval, where England currently leads the series 2-1.
Jacob Bethell will come into the side to bat at number six, replacing Stokes.
Liam Dawson, Jofra Archer, and Brydon Carse have also been replaced by Gus Atkinson, Jamie Overton, and Josh Tongue in a refreshed bowling attack.

Just a few weeks before the Euros began, Keating was cleared of drugs charges after Greater Manchester Police dropped them. Keating and her mother, Nicola, were charged last June with possession of the Class C drug nitrous oxide. They both pleaded not guilty and the charges were dropped in June. "I'm relieved the charges have been dropped — as I've always said, I did nothing wrong," Keating told the BBC. "It's been a difficult time, but I've always known the truth. Now I'm just looking forward to focusing fully on the Euros and spending time with my family." Keating did not play at the Euros with Hannah Hampton starring as first-choice goalkeeper, but she was an important part of the squad and was part of the jubilant celebrations that took place after they returned to the UK. A victory parade took place on Wednesday in front of more than 50,000 fans, with England captain Leah Williamson stating: "I'm holding back tears. I've been crying all down The Mall. "This is unbelievable, this is probably one of the best [things] we have ever been a part of, so thank you for coming out. "There are many ways to win a football match. And we repeatedly did it the hard way, but you can see how much we care about playing for England and how much we love it." Chloe Kelly added: "It feels so good to stand side by side with each and every one of these girls. It's so ******* special. It's incredible to stand here today with a winners' medal around our necks and I'm so proud to be English."

The new scheme, which will cost fans £25 per match, will see supporters unable to land away match tickets the chance to watch United from the international suite at Old Trafford. The £25 admission includes one free drink as well as a portion of food in what sources feel represents a value-for-money experience. Season ticket holders now have the chance to buy tickets to stadium screenings of the first three away games of the season, at Fulham, at Manchester City, and at Brentford. It was revealed on Wednesday that the Cincinnati Bengals had cut running back Zack Moss, following an official announcement from the team. Moss, 27, was previously on the non-football injury list pertaining to a neck injury that cut his season short in 2024. Moss' wife, Jessica, had previously taken to social media to talk about 'one of the hardest weeks' after Moss returned to the Bengals' training camp. Then, after the running back was officially cut from the side, Jessica returned to TikTok to open up about the brutal decision. In a video posted on the platform, she said: 'I'm on my daily walk with my two kiddos after finding out that my husband was just released from his job. 'For those who don't know, my husband is a running back for the Bengals and I received a text from him this morning saying that he was just released by the team. 'This wasn't super surprising news to me because he is injured - he's recovering from a neck injury. For those who don't know, neck injuries are very severe, especially in the NFL. 'Obviously the team had their reasons for releasing him or whatever but 'lack of talent' isn't one of them. He's a great pass blocker, one of the reasons that Cincinnati wanted him. But anyway, I wasn't going to let that keep me in a bad space'. In a previous video that Jessica posted, she revealed that Zack had been suffering from 'scary symptoms' as a result of the injury. 'He is recovering from an injury from last season. He fractured his neck and he is not completely healthy yet. He then re-structured his deal for a contract worth $1.7m in 2025. Cutting him leads to the Bengals eating a $1.88m dead cap penalty, but will net Cincinnati $1.2m in cap savings. Moss' return from injury coincided with an already-packed running back room at Paycor Stadium. Jessica, who wed Zack in October 2022, is often seen supporting her husband at training Moss' absence led to the rise of Chase Brown, a 2024 draft pick, as one of the best young running backs in the NFL.
