This may look like an ordinary 'holiday park'... but behind the electric fence is a dark reality
Max Caruso attempted to enter the heavily guarded compound known as Corella Place, near Ararat, a town in Victoria that has a population of around 12,000 people.
Caruso said he was inspired to investigate the site after watching videos about similar facilities in the US, including Florida 's infamous 'Pervert Park.'
Corella Place isn't a typical detention centre: it's a purpose-built, high-security complex for offenders who have completed their sentences, but are still considered too dangerous to live freely in the community.
Intrigued, Caruso set out to locate Corella Place for himself and documented the journey on his YouTube channel.
During his visit to the town, Caruso spoke to several locals, many of whom expressed discomfort about living near the facility.
'They can come out of there, and walk straight out the gate,' one man said, voicing concerns about how freely the residents can move despite being under surveillance.
Another local believed he had passed the complex multiple times, but still wasn't entirely sure where it was located.
Caruso and a friend eventually drove out of town and followed Warrak Road to the site.
The pair were stunned to discover how close the facility was to the Hopkins Correctional Centre, a men's prison.
Taking in the view of what he dubbed 'the Pervert Prison', Caruso remarked on how comfortable the facility appeared.
'These people aren't even living that badly,' he said, pointing out the neat, uniform housing.
'This is basically a holiday park for them where they can hang out with their own kind and be protected from the rest of society.
'I thought it would be like a super accessible place, and you'd be able to walk in and see it. That is not the case.'
The facility, surrounded by an electric fence, was heavily guarded, and the pair were quickly noticed by security.
They were approached by someone in a van who questioned them about what they were filming.
Caruso replied they were filming content for his YouTube channel, claiming they were just capturing footage of the surrounding farmland.
But the reality of how restricted the area quickly became clear.
Caruso said he risked being charged if he moved closer, and the pair left the site.
Frustrated by the tight security and lack of access, Caruso vowed to return.
'We drove five hours just to look at a wall,' he said.
Operated under Post Sentence Orders (PSOs), Corella Place residents are monitored around the clock, wear GPS ankle bracelets, and have restricted access to phones and the internet.
Leaving the premises usually requires an escort.
Dubbed the 'Village of the Damned,' the facility was designed to manage high-risk individuals post-release, keeping them isolated under strict conditions until their PSOs expire or are revoked.
According to Victoria's Post Sentence Authority, as of June 30 last year, 123 people were under PSO monitoring.
Ninety of them are under surveillance for serious sex offences, 20 for violent offences, and 13 for both.
Over the years, Corella Place has housed some of Australia's most notorious offenders, including Robin Fletcher, the self-styled 'paedophile witch', who has remained under supervision at the facility since 2006.
Among others is Theo Briggs, who raped a woman at knifepoint in 2009 while children were in the home.
He escaped in 2016 but was later recaptured.
In 2013, high-risk offenders Sean Carmody-Coyle and David Gregory Byrnes escaped the facility and were found 23km away.
Carmody-Coyle managed to escape again in 2014, riding off on a mountain bike armed with knives before being caught the following morning.
In 2018, child sex offender and inmate Gregory Paul Sedgman died at Ballarat Base Hospital after he overdosed on prescription medication at Corella Place.
A review into the incident in 2022 found the death could have been avoided, leading to an overhaul of medication storage in the facility.
It was revealed Sedgeman had taken more than he was initially prescribed, after an inmate distracted officers.
'If appropriate oversight of Mr Sedgman's case management occurred … his increased risk of substance abuse may have been dealt with more effectively,' the report said.

Only in Rose Bay! Rolls Royce and Mercedes collide head-on in late night HORROR crash
A young woman will face court after allegedly crashing her $600,000 Rolls-Royce into a Mercedes in Sydney 's eastern suburbs while drunk. A chauffeur was seriously injured during a high-speed head-on collision about 3.30am on Saturday at New South Head Road in Rose Bay. NSW Police alleged LanLan Yang, 23, veered onto the wrong side of the road, slamming into a Mercedes van being driven by 52-year-old George Plassaras. Mr Plassaras, a well-known local chauffeur who runs Dakota Limousines, operates a service frequently used by celebrities and personalities including radio star Kyle Sandilands. Following the incident, he was allegedly trapped in the wreckage for up to 30 minutes as horrified witnesses rushed to call Triple-0. The injured man could be heard yelling for help inside the crushed vehicle, as emergency crews from NSW Police Rescue and Fire and Rescue NSW worked to free him. Paramedics treated him at the scene before taking him to St Vincent's Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition with hip injuries. It is understood he underwent surgery later on Saturday. The crash was captured on nearby CCTV which appeared to show Yang's luxury SUV crossing into oncoming traffic before the violent collision. She allegedly stepped out of the mangled Rolls-Royce, returning to the driver's seat, then checking on Mr Plassaras from the passenger side of his van. Moments later, she could allegedly be seen running from the scene, only to return about a minute later with another person. Police said Yang failed a roadside breath test and was arrested at the scene. At Waverley Police Station, she allegedly refused to undergo a breath analysis. Yang was charged with causing bodily harm by misconduct, being in charge of a motor vehicle, and refusing or failing to submit to breath analysis. She was granted conditional bail and ordered to surrender her passport. Under the strict conditions, she has been banned from driving a car and must remain at her Waverley mansion between 8pm and 6am daily. New South Head Road was closed for several hours following the crash, with both severely damaged vehicles towed to a police holding yard for forensic examination. The front of Mr Plassaras' Mercedes was flattened, while Yang's Rolls-Royce was so damaged that its make and model were almost unrecognisable. Yang is scheduled to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on August 15. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Sophia Rose farewelled by loved ones after her tragic death
A three-year-old girl who was stabbed to death by her mother has been farewelled by loved ones just two days before her fourth birthday. Sophia Rose was killed by her mother, Lauren Ingrid Flanigan, on the front lawn of their home in Moore Park Beach, in Queensland, on May 26. Her younger siblings, aged one and two, were inside the home at the time. Flanigan, 32, was charged with her daughter's murder but died after being found unresponsive inside her Brisbane jail cell. She never entered a plea. Sophia's funeral service was held in Victoria on Saturday, where her father Jai Ruane, 39, and her siblings have since relocated. 'Instead of celebrating Sophia's fourth birthday, we're having a funeral,' Mr Ruane told the Courier Mail. 'A funeral that shouldn't be happening, as there is supposed to be systems in place to protect children but that clearly failed.' He said Sophia's birthdays were always special occasions for the family. Her first birthday involved a lavish cake, her second was celebrated twice, and her third was crowned with a fairy-themed party. 'Now, this weekend's going to be a big event, but it's not a birthday,' he said. Mr Ruane last saw his daughter two weeks before she died. His job as a fly-in-fly-out miner meant that his trips home to his family wee intermittent. He recalled holding her hand at their local zoo and a Hungry Jack's lunch. It was an otherwise ordinary day, he said, but now one he will never forget. Mr Ruane still has a drawing the three-year-old made for him that day. Attendees at Sophia's funeral were asked to wear a 'touch of pink' in honour of the little girl's favourite colour. Mr Ruane remembered his first-born as a real 'girly-girl' with a 'strong character' and a curious, social nature. The grieving dad has since relocated to Victoria with his two other children because of the 'memories' attached to the Queensland home. They now live closer to Mr Ruane's siblings and their children. Queensland Corrective Services said in June it would review how Flanigan died despite being assessed as high-risk and requiring close monitoring. It's understood she had been placed in a specialised unit for high-risk prisoners known as the Crisis Support Unit at Brisbane Women's Correctional Centre. Asked about Ms Flanigan's death, a spokesperson for Queensland Police told Daily Mail Australia a report would be prepared for the coroner. 'Due to this no further comment can be made at this time,' they said.

Woman allegedly stabs colleague with scissors in attack at InterContinental Sydney hotel
A woman has been charged with attempted murder after she allegedly wielded scissors in a stabbing attack against her co-worker in a luxury hotel in central Sydney. Emergency services were called to the InterContinental Sydney on Macquarie Street at 2.20am on Saturday after reports of an assault. Police found a 30-year-old woman with stab wounds to her upper body, police said. She was treated by New South Wales Ambulance paramedics and taken to St Vincent's hospital where she was due to undergo surgery today, chief inspector Gary Coffey said. A 27-year-old woman was also injured after attempting to intervene and was also taken to St Vincent's Hospital. Sign up: AU Breaking News email A 31-year-old woman was arrested at the hotel and taken to Day Street police station where she was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder and assault, police said in a statement. All three women worked together at the hotel, Coffey said. He said the attack weapon was a pair of scissors and that the incident unfolded in a back office area out of public view. 'At this stage, we're unable to confirm the exact motive for this crime, other than all three persons involved in this incident are co-workers,' he told reporters on Saturday morning. 'I'm not exactly sure of the circumstances which led up to the attack, but you would have to think that there was some sort of … dispute, this morning in the work environment.' When asked whether the attack was 'frenzied', Coffey said it was – and that it was 'lucky that things didn't escalate worse than that'. A spokesperson from InterContinental said no comment would be made. The 31-year-old was refused bail to appear before Parramatta local court on Sunday.
