Economic Key09-03-2025
Stellantis N.V. today unveiled STLA AutoDrive 1.0, the Company's first in-house-developed automated driving system, delivering Hands-Free and Eyes-Off (SAE Level 3) functionality.
STLA AutoDrive is a key pillar of Stellantis' technology strategy, alongside STLA Brain and STLA Smart Cockpit, advancing vehicle intelligence, automation and user experience.
STLA AutoDrive enables automated driving at speeds up to 60 km/h (37 mph), reducing driver workload in stop-and-go traffic and giving back valuable time.
Ideal for commuters in dense urban areas, STLA AutoDrive will allow drivers to temporarily engage in non-driving tasks such as watching a movie, catching up on emails, reading a book or simply looking out the window, reclaiming valuable time.
'Helping drivers make the best use of their time is a priority,' said Ned Curic, Stellantis Chief Engineering and Technology Officer. 'By handling routine driving tasks, STLA AutoDrive will enhance the driving experience, making time behind the wheel more efficient and enjoyable.'
The system is designed for simplicity: when traffic and environmental conditions align, drivers are notified that STLA AutoDrive is available. Once activated by a physical button, the system takes control, maintaining safe distances, adjusting speed, and managing steering and braking seamlessly based on traffic flow.
STLA AutoDrive continuously monitors its surroundings through an advanced suite of sensors to ensure high-precision awareness and reliable operation, even at night or in challenging weather conditions such as light rain or road spray. To maintain consistent performance, an automated sensor-cleaning system keeps critical components clear for optimal reliability and functionality.
Stellantis engineers have refined STLA AutoDrive to react quickly and naturally, ensuring that the system feels smooth, predictable and human-like in real-world conditions. Whether maintaining safe following distances or adjusting to merging traffic, the system operates seamlessly to provide a confident, stress-free drive.
At higher speeds, STLA AutoDrive offers the convenience of Adaptive Cruise Control and lane centering functions in Level 2 (hands-on) and Level 2+ (hands-off, eyes-on) modes.
Built on a scalable architecture, STLA AutoDrive is ready for deployment and can be adapted for global markets across Stellantis branded vehicles, ensuring a smooth rollout as commercial strategies align with market demand. The system is also cloud-connected, enabling continuous enhancements through over-the-air updates and real-time data integration for optimized performance.
STLA AutoDrive complies with applicable regulations in supported markets and requires drivers to remain seated, belted and ready to assume control when prompted. It also respects regional laws on driver conduct, including phone use restrictions.
STLA AutoDrive is designed as an evolving platform, with ongoing research and future advancements potentially capable of unlocking:
• Hands-Free and Eyes-Off operation at higher speeds, up to 95 km/h (59 mph).
• Enhanced off-road automation for select models.
With its focus on safety, flexibility and long-term adaptability, STLA AutoDrive represents Stellantis' next step toward more intelligent, comfortable and intuitive driving experiences.

Al-Sisi reviews progress on local manufacturing, urges deeper self-sufficiency

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met on Monday with Lieutenant General Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Chairperson of the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI), to review the progress of strategic civil and defence industry projects designed to strengthen domestic manufacturing and localize advanced technologies, according to a presidential statement. Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy said the meeting highlighted AOI's initiatives across multiple sectors, including transport, clean energy, medical supplies, and wood products, as well as its ongoing efforts to expand military production for the armed forces and boost exports. Abdel Latif outlined the AOI's strategic vision, which focuses on industrial modernisation, developing skilled human capital, advancing scientific research, and forging partnerships with major local, regional, and international companies to reinforce Egypt's position as a regional manufacturing hub. The AOI chief also announced that production has begun on the Citroën C4X in cooperation with global automotive group Stellantis, with an annual target of 7,000 vehicles and a cumulative goal of 28,000 over four years. Production of the new Jeep Cherokee is scheduled to start in September 2024, alongside the Toyota Fortuner SUV at a planned annual output of 1,200 units. In addition, AOI is expanding into electronics, with new production lines for laptops, tablets, smartphones, prepaid electricity meters, and routers aimed at meeting domestic demand and reducing reliance on imports. The meeting also covered AOI's clean energy initiatives, including the manufacture of advanced solar panels and the development of a solar power station in Uganda as part of Egypt's contribution to the Nile Basin Initiative. AOI is further investing in smart digital marketing platforms to broaden its reach in both local and regional markets. On human capital development, Abdel Latif highlighted the organisation's education and training programmes through its technology and engineering academies, vocational institutes, and international collaborations, such as with the International Institute of Welding in Italy. President Al-Sisi commended AOI's achievements and called for continued efforts to expand domestic production, reduce costs, and enhance competitiveness. He also stressed the importance of minimising imports in key sectors to cut the trade deficit and save foreign currency, while urging greater coordination among government ministries, the private sector, and national industrial institutions to unlock Egypt's full manufacturing potential.

US tariffs help push Jeep owner Stellantis into big loss - Economy

Jeep owner Stellantis said on Monday it suffered a massive loss in the first half of the year, when it felt the first impact of new US tariffs and took a massive charge following a change in US laws. The 2.3-billion-euro ($2.7-billion) net loss in the first half of the year came as sales in North America continued to slump, down 25 percent by volume in the second quarter year-on-year. The carmaker, whose stable of brands also includes Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat, said first-half net revenues dropped 12.6 percent to 74.3 billion euros, according to the preliminary and unaudited results. Sales of vehicles fell by six percent in the second quarter year-on-year, after having dropped nine percent in the first three months of 2025. Stellantis said "the early effects of US tariffs" had a 300-million-euro negative impact and disrupted its plans to boost its struggling performance in North America. Automakers have struggled to respond to US President Donald Trump's new US tariff of 25 percent on imported cars that are not largely made within North America. The company, which also owns the Chrysler, Dodge and Ram Truck brands, paused production at some plants in Canada and Mexico in April as the tariffs went into force. Stellantis said the sharp drop in North American sales volume was "due to factors including the reduced manufacture and shipments of imported vehicles, most impacted by tariffs," as well as lower sales for corporate fleets. Restructuring charge Stellantis also took a 3.3-billion-euro charge, which it said was "primarily related to programme cancellation costs and platform impairments, net impact of the recent legislation eliminating the CAFE penalty rate and restructuring". Trump's massive tax and spending legislation, approved earlier this month, removed the penalties for not respecting the so-called CAFE fuel economy targets, meaning automakers can produce and sell more higher polluting cars in the United States. The company said it was in the early stage of taking action to improve performance and profitability, with new products expected to deliver a larger impact in the second half of 2025. Stellantis suspended its financial guidance in April due to the heightened uncertainty generated by US tariffs. Analysts at finance group ODDO BHF said a drop in sales was widely expected and noted that new chief executives often clean house by passing new provisions or restructuring charges. Company veteran Antonio Filosa took over as chief executive in June and immediately launched a management shake-up. Filosa headed up the North American region that accounts for most company profits and whose struggles last year precipitated the sacking of Carlos Tavares, and has retained responsibility for the region. While the overall six-percent drop in sales volumes was in line with analyst expectations, according to ODDO BHF, the 25-percent drop was double the 12 percent foreseen by analysts. Shares in Stellantis fell 2.1 percent in morning trading on the Paris stock exchange, which was 0.4 percent lower overall. Stellantis said it would release audited first half results on July 29 as scheduled. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

Stellantis Halts Development of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology Program

Stellantis today announced its decision to discontinue its hydrogen fuel cell technology development program. Due to limited availability of hydrogen refueling infrastructure, high capital requirements, and the need for stronger consumer purchasing incentives, the Company does not anticipate the adoption of hydrogen-powered light commercial vehicles before the end of the decade. As a result, Stellantis will no longer launch its new range of hydrogen-powered Pro One vehicles this year. Serial production was scheduled to start this summer in Hordain, France (medium-sized vans) and Gliwice, Poland (large vans). 'In a context where the Company is mobilizing to respond to demanding CO2 regulations in Europe, Stellantis has decided to discontinue its hydrogen fuel cell technology development program,' explains Jean-Philippe Imparato, Chief Operating Officer for Enlarged Europe. 'The hydrogen market remains a niche segment, with no prospects of mid-term economic sustainability. We must make clear and responsible choices to ensure our competitiveness and meet the expectations of our customers with our electric and hybrid passenger and light commercial vehicles offensive.' This decision will not impact staffing at Stellantis' production sites. R&D activities related to hydrogen technology will be redirected to other projects. The current state of the hydrogen segment also presents financial challenges for various stakeholders. In this context, Stellantis has initiated discussions with the shareholders of Symbio to evaluate the current market consequences and to preserve the best interests of Symbio, in line with their respective obligations. تم نسخ الرابط
