India and England are set to lock horns in the third of five Tests at the iconic Lord's, the venue that had recently hosted the ICC World Test Championship Final, a few hours from now. It's been a short turnaround for both teams, with the second Test at Edgbaston having concluded on Sunday.
Given how things unfolded there, with India dominating England throughout the game since they recovered from a wobbly 211/5 on the opening day, it would be safe to assume that the Shubman Gill-led visitors will be the more upbeat of the two teams at the 'Home of Cricket'.

As is their wont, England announced their playing XI on the eve of the match, well before the toss, with senior pacer Jofra Archer set to make his first Test appearance in over four years after being drafted in place of Josh Tongue. Incidentally, it was against India – in February 2021 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium – that Archer had made his last Test appearance.
But what of the Indian team? Are they likely to tinker with their combination, especially one that leveled the five-match series with a ruthless 336-run victory in Birmingham?
At least one change confirmed for Gill and Co
As things stand right now, India are set to make at least one change to their playing XI, with captain Gill having confirmed Jasprit Bumrah's participation in Lord's Test during the post-match presentation at Edgbaston. And given the circumstances as well as past history, that is likely to be India's only change for the third Test.
With Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj having collected the bulk of the 20 English wickets that fell in the second Test, it would make sense for Bumrah to replace Prasidh Krishna, who had been expensive at Headingley as well as Edgbaston.
The other areas of concern are Karun Nair at No 3 and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy at No 6. Nair has been getting off to promising starts so far this series, but hasn't been able to convert any of them, his highest being 31 at the batting paradise that was Edgbaston.
Reddy, meanwhile, hardly contributed with bat or with ball in the same match. The Andhra cricketer, however, is the better batter when compared with Shardul Thakur, the other seam-bowling all-rounder in the squad who was dropped after a poor show in Leeds.
With Bumrah, Siraj and Akash suddenly appearing a potent three-pronged pace attack, and Ravindra Jadeja among the more economical bowlers in the ongoing series, Team India will be better served with Reddy in their lineup than Thakur.

Which also means left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav might have to ferry drinks for a while longer, since Sundar proved handy with the bat down the order at Edgbaston.
As for Nair, he is likely to get another shot at Lord's and might even be retained for the fourth Test at Old Trafford. However, while top-order batter B Sai Sudharsan, who was benched after making his Test debut at Headingley, has his entire career ahead of him, Nair might not get too many opportunities beyond the current series – his first for India in eight years.
India predicted playing XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.
England playing XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Shoaib Bashir

Virat Kohli unlikely to attend England vs India Lord's Test despite staying so near; 'He has daddy duties to attend to'

Lord's is star-studded on Day 1 of the third Test between India and England. From legendary Sachin Tendulkar to West Indies' Chris Gayle and Australia's Brett Lee, the iconic venue in London is witnessing who's who of the cricket world come together to witness the younger generation take on the big shoes left behind. However, there's one such absence that's being dearly felt - Virat Kohli. Having retired from Tests just before the India vs England Test series, Kohli is currently residing in London. In fact, the St. John's Wood, where Kohli reportedly resides, is just nearby the Lord's cricket ground. But if one goes by his recent admission, the former India captain is happy staying away from cricket for the time being. Dinesh Karthik, a former teammate of Kohli, spilled the bad news. During commentary, Karthik was asked by former England cricketer Michael Atherton if there is any chance of Kohli giving a visit at Lord's during the ongoing Test. The Indian answered in negative. 'He is near Lord's. That's where he lives. But don't think so. He has daddy duties to attend to,' replied Karthik. However, just 48 hours ago, Kohli was caught on camera at Wimbledon 2025 during Novak Djokovic's win over Alex De Minaur in a thrilling Centre Court clash. The next day, the 36-year-old was present at a charity event organised by former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh in London, which had the entire Indian team, Tendulkar and others. While Kohli has retired from Tests and T20Is, Kohli's return in India jersey was scheduled for August against Bangladesh in ODIs. However, with the tour being cancelled till next year, Kohli will next be seen against Australia in October-November as India play three ODIs and five T20Is in an away tour.

IND vs ENG 2025: 'Whatever I have seen …': Sachin Tendulkar on Shubman Gill's captaincy, sends heartfelt Guru Purnima message

Sachin Tendulkar and Shubman Gill NEW DELHI: As the iconic five-minute bell rang at Lord's to signal the start of the third India-England Test, it was none other than cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar who stood proudly on the balcony, performing the honour. But Tendulkar wasn't just making headlines for tradition. He also took the moment to applaud India captain Shubman Gill 's impressive leadership while marking the occasion of Guru Purnima with a touching tribute. Live Score: India vs England, 3rd Test Speaking about Gill's captaincy, Tendulkar said, 'He's been good. He's very calm and composed. And I strongly believe that the rest of the 10 players also react to what he is doing. Whatever decisions he's taken, they've been measured, well thought of. His batting is complementing that as well. If a captain is in good form, it makes a huge difference on decision making.' Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Tendulkar further praised Gill's form, saying, 'He's been batting brilliantly. Normally, the opposition looks to find weak areas in your technique, but at this point, it's been remarkable. Whatever I have seen, it's been special.' Former CSK bowler Deepak Chahar makes surprise appearance at India nets at Lord's Reflecting on India's comeback after their opening Test loss, he added, 'I'm very happy with the way we came back in the second match. In the first, there were a few dropped catches - and as my coach used to say, 'catches win matches'.' On the occasion of Guru Purnima, the Master Blaster offered gratitude to all mentors: 'I'd like to wish all the Gurus - thank you for everything you've done for us. We value your contribution.' Tendulkar's day at Lord's was made even more special as his portrait, painted by Stuart Pearson Wright, was unveiled at the MCC Museum. Reflecting on the moment, he said, 'In 1983, when India won the World Cup, it was my first introduction to Lord's. Today, with my portrait going up inside the Pavilion, it feels like it's come full circle.'
