Shara Magomedov says Marc-Andre Barriault's pressure will give him a 'predatory feeling'

USA Today2 days ago
ABU DHABI – Shara Magomedov thinks Marc-Andre Barriault's forward-pressure is tailor made for his style.
Magomedov (15-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) takes on Barriault (17-9 MMA, 6-8 UFC) in a middleweight bout on Saturday's UFC on ABC 9 (ABC, ESPN, ESPN+) main card at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
Magomedov will look to rebound from his first-career loss to Michael Page at UFC Fight Night 250 in February.
"I never really was worried about that zero as possibly my fans were worried about that zero and the fact that I was undefeated," Magomedov told reporters including MMA Junkie in Wednesday's media day. "It just happened that I lost, but we understand what happened, we kind of draw our own results from that, we learn from that and keep moving forward."
Barriault has shown to be a kill or be killed type of fighter, with his past nine fights ending by stoppage. He was able to snap a three-fight losing skid with a brutal knockout of Bruno Silva just two months ago at UFC 315.
"Bullet" thinks Barriault's style caters to his.
"I like when I get pressured in that way because once I see that danger, once I see him coming towards me, I get some sort of predatory feeling," Magomedov said. "Like a feeling of trying to liquidate this pressure, this danger that's coming towards me so, this way it pressures me to show all my aspects that I have to dismantle this threat that's coming towards me."
Magomedov will look to pick up right where he left off prior to losing to Page.
"I'm pretty sure with this victory and maybe two, three more fights that I'm going to be right there, right back at the top of the division," Magomedov said. "Potentially I'll be breathing already in the back of the top five if I show one, two good finishes, and I'll be right there. I'll be in the talks to potentially get the rematch."

UFC vet Lorenz Larkin explains why he won't compete in bareknuckle boxing

Lorenz Larkin isn't done with MMA just yet, but he's open to trying a few different things. Larkin has competed in multiple major MMA organizations throughout his career, including UFC, Bellator, Strikeforce, and PFL. Now with no ties to any major MMA promotion at the moment, Larkin has already tested his skills under the Karate Combat banner and sees boxing in his future as well. To be clear, Larkin is only interested in traditional, gloved boxing. Bareknuckle boxing, which has become a popular avenue for former ex-UFC fighters, is of zero interest to "The Monsoon." "Nah, man. ... If a fighter gets into a fight in the street, it's gonna be quick," Larkin told MMA Junkie Radio. "The fight's gonna be over, done deal, because the other guy doesn't know anything. They have bare hands, that fighter is probably going to punch him two times, if that, and it's gonna be over. But, you get two guys having a training camp that are going to go in and fight each other, with bare knuckles? No. I'm good off that. "The percentage of cuts is like, I don't know – I would like to know that statistic in BKFC. Like what is the percentage of people getting cut? It has to be like 80 percent. Eighty-five percent." Larkin hopes to get a deal done with Misfits Boxing soon so he can challenge himself in the sweet science, but his most recent venture into karate worked out well in his first appearance. At Karate Combat 56, Larkin won a unanimous decision against Buddy Wallace. He likes the contractual setup with the promotion because he was able to work out a deal that allows him to compete in other combat sports, with no exclusivity. Larkin, 38, started his pro MMA career in 2009, and doesn't intend to hang up the gloves soon. However, once he feels the game catching up to him, he will promptly call it a career. "I always told myself, once when I fight and I feel like these guys are too fast for me and I just can't keep up, then that's my time and I'm not scared to be like, 'That's it,'" Larkin said. "I'm not trying to chase anything. But you know what? Especially in my last three fights, have been like young killers and I'm sparking those guys. ... I've got good guys behind me, I'm training smart, and I'm not taking damage."

USC women's basketball lands top recruit Saniyah Hall. Why she picked Trojans

Southern California women's basketball team has landed another top recruit. Saniyah Hall, the top female high school basketball recruit in the class of 2026, according to ESPN's rankings, has committed to play for USC after receiving offers from nearly 30 schools, including UConn, UCLA, South Carolina, North Carolina and LSU. The 16-year-old made the announcement on ESPN's "NBA Today" on Friday, saying, USC "felt like home." "It's such a blessing to be in this position, but I think I truly found my home, and I'm ready to tell the world where I'm going," she said before revealing a Trojans shirt underneath her jacket. "I am headed to the University of Southern California. Go Trojans! Fight on." Hall's announcement comes on the heels of her gold medal win with Team USA at the FIBA Under-19 World Cup. She was named MVP after averaging 19.9 points and 6.4 rebounds, shooting 52.6% from the field and 39.3% on 3-pointers. She scored 25 points vs. Australia in the gold-medal game. Her 19.9 points per game may have set a USA U19 record, but Hall said she's proudest of her defense: "I had a lot of steals that game and a lot of blocks." She'll join a Trojans squad that is assembling elite talent under coach Lindsay Gottlieb. McDonald's All-American Jazzy Davidson, the third overall recruit in the 2025 class, who competed alongside Hall on the USA U19 team, also committed to play for USC. The Trojans were 31-4 last season and lost to UConn in an Elite Eight game after superstar Juju Watkins went down with an ACL injury during the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Hall said Gottlieb and her teammates led to her choice to commit to USC. On Friday, she said, "I love all my teammates. The girls there are so fun to be around definitely Lindsay (Gottlieb)... she's definitely there to support me and I've built a relationship with her. She's a great coach." The Ohio native will finish her senior season of high school basketball at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio. Last season, she played for Montverde (Florida) Academy and averaged 20.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.4 blocks. Hall signed an NIL deal with Jordan brand earlier this month. During her announcement, Hall said, "I don't have anything to prove. I just go out, play basketball. I let my game do the talking. Actions speak for themselves."
