2024 Season Review
Franklin is coming off his most productive season to date. He totaled 173 tackles, which was the most in the NFL of any defender. He also set a career high with 15 quarterback pressures, four sacks, and two interceptions.

The end result was Franklin making his first Pro Bowl, along with being named a second-team All-Pro.
Like any player, Franklin has areas of his game that can improve. According to PFF's metrics, he had a missed tackle rate of 11.6% last season--which ranked 43rd among linebackers--and quarterbacks were efficient when targeting him in coverage, with a completion rate of 87% and a passer rating of 105.5.
Looking ahead to the 2025 season
I believe this new-look Colts defense under Lou Anarumo will really benefit Franklin.
In this scheme, there is going to be a greater reliance on defensive backs. In turn, I anticipate that this will mean more opportunities for Franklin to play closer to the line of scrimmage, which is where he is at his best. The more aggressive scheme should result in more opportunities to get after the quarterback as well.

I also really like the pairing of Jaylon Carlies with Franklin. Carlies, a former college safety, brings a needed coverage presence to the linebacker position. This element will pair well with Franklin's skill set, again allowing him more flexibility to do what he does best, operating near the line of scrimmage.

Deion Sanders health update: Colorado coach expected to return to job soon

A new video posted by his son shows Colorado football coach Deion Sanders walking gingerly at his estate in Texas less than a week before he's expected to make his first public appearance since April. In the video posted by Deion Sanders Jr., Sanders Sr. received a visit from rapper Lil Wayne, one of several friends who have come to see him as he battles an unspecified health issue that has kept him out of the spotlight and away from his job in Boulder. The list of well-wishers has included former NFL players Michael Irvin and Adam 'Pacman' Jones, as well as Colorado Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. 'Deion's doing good,' Jones said in an interview with BetOnline posted this week. 'I think he got another week at home before they get started. He'll be there. He'll be ready to go.' BIG 12 QB RANKINGS: Experienced signal-callers headline 2025 season Sanders, 57, is scheduled to appear in Frisco, Texas on July 9 as part of the annual preseason Big 12 Conference media days. It will be his first appearance on the job since April before he retreated to Texas and missed several events this summer, including Colorado's annual high school and youth football camps in June. He also canceled a speaking appearance in Florida on June 8 and wasn't able to make it to Hunter's wedding in Tennessee May 24. Sanders previously said in an interview with former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel that he had lost 14 pounds and that 'what I'm dealing with right now is at a whole 'nother level.' He has a history of blood clots in his legs, which previously led to the amputation of two of his toes. It's unclear if that is related to his recent sabbatical. Sanders said he'd provide an update at a later date. 'Thanks to everybody that has been praying and sending good thoughts and prayers his way,' Jones said. Arik Armstead on what sets Jacksonville Jaguars' Liam Coen apart from other coaches

Jaguars' DT Arik Armstead recently explained how Liam Coen differs from other coaches that he has had. Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Arik Armstead is about to enter his 11th season in the NFL. But even with all that experience under his belt and operating under different coaches, in different schemes, and in two organizations, there is something unique about how Liam Coen does things, as Armstead recently highlighted while appearing on 'First Things First.' "I would say for me, it's the openness to communication," Armstead said. "The openness to listen to your players. It's very open. It's like, what do you guys think? How can we make things better? More conversations. We're texting. Me and Josh Hines-Allen went to dinner with Liam about a week after you got hired. I never went to dinner with any of my head coaches, even though I've had some great relationships with head coaches, I never went to dinner, especially a week after being hired." Since Coen was hired, he's used the phrase "players over plays," and other coaches, like offensive coordinator Grant Udinski, have echoed that sentiment as well. Like any play caller, Coen--and Anthony Campanile on the defensive side--have core principles that their scheme is built around. But to truly get the most out of the team they have, it's about molding the respective offensive and defensive systems to the skill sets that are on the roster in order to maximize the talent that is there. Accomplishing that begins with learning what each player does well, and a key part of that is the communication element to make sure that each player is comfortable executing what is being implemented. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how good a play looks on paper; if the players aren't confident in what's being called or put in a position to execute it properly, the chances of the play being successful are significantly reduced. "So it's very open," Armstead added. "Like I said, they want to do things right, and we all have a lot to learn and grow. But I'm very excited for the trajectory that we're headed."

Former NY Giants Star Makes Strong Statement on Possible Comeback

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Jason Pierre-Paul's career with the New York Giants took an unexpected turn during the 2015 offseason. As the star pass rusher celebrated the 4th of July holiday, he ended up dealing with a career-altering injury, which sidelined him for a while. Pierre-Paul's incident wasn't career-ending. In fact, he continued playing for years after, despite dealing with a constant setback. He even continued to produce at a high level throughout his post-Giants era. Pierre-Paul didn't play at all during the 2024 NFL season. When he suited up for the New Orleans Saints in 2023, he appeared in just one game. While it might be assumed his playing days are in the rearview, the veteran recently revealed that he's still training and waiting on a potential comeback. Jason Pierre-Paul #90 of the New York Giants in action against the Kansas City Chiefs during their game at MetLife Stadium on November 19, 2017 in East Rutherford, New Jersey."I can still do it," Pierre-Paul told ESPN recently. If Pierre-Paul can make it back to the New York Giants for a second stint, he would be thrilled. "I think that'll be dope. Tremendous," he added. "To go back somewhere where my career started ... the fans know me and know the type of player that I am. I'll always be that type of player and just give 'em everything I got, which I know it'll be more than enough." Coming out of South Florida in 2010, Pierre-Paul was drafted by the Giants with the 15th overall pick in the first round. In the five years leading up to the incident, Pierre-Paul accounted for 285 tackles, 73 hits on the quarterback, and 42 sacks. When he returned to the field in 2015, Pierre-Paul appeared in just eight games. He added one sack and 26 tackles to his resume. For the final two years of his run with the Giants, Pierre-Paul combined 121 tackles, landed 29 hits on the QB, and collected 15.5 sacks. In 2018, Pierre-Paul was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent four seasons there, registering 171 tackles and 33 sacks. Since his run in Tampa, he had short stints with the Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints, and the Miami Dolphins. It's unclear if Pierre-Paul will get a chance to suit up again at 36 years old after spending the last season off the field, but the veteran defensive lineman is confident he can get back out there and produce at a high level. He hopes the Giants see that and bring him in to finish his career there. For more New York Giants and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
