Jeremy Clarkson ‘not enjoying farming this week' after bovine TB found on farm

Leader Live2 days ago
The TV star, 65, said he is also dealing with 'a very sickly calf', and discovered that one of his puppies had died on Friday morning.
On Thursday, he wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that a pregnant cow had contracted the disease on his farm near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire.
Bad news from Diddly Squat. We've gone down with TB. Everyone here is absolutely devastated.
— Jeremy Clarkson (@JeremyClarkson) July 31, 2025
Speaking to Times Radio Breakfast, he said: 'It's awful, it is awful. You have a test every six months on the cows and then you sort of become blase, it's a hypothetical threat.
'And then the vet looks up, as he did yesterday lunchtime, and said 'I'm really sorry this one's failed'.
'So that means we're now locked down and it's just dreadful, absolutely dreadful.'
Cattle which fail a TB test, or animals that have inconclusive results for two consecutive tests, are classed as 'reactors', and must be isolated and slaughtered.
Clarkson added: 'It's only been not even 24 hours since I found out and it occupies my mind. Well it was occupying my mind but I got up this morning and found one of my puppies has died.
'And we've got a very sickly calf. Honestly, farming? I'm not enjoying it this week.'
Asked in the comments of his X post about the prize bull called Endgame, which Clarkson bought recently for £5,500, he said: 'His test was 'inconclusive'. I couldn't bear it if we lost him.'
In a follow-up post, he said: 'The farm is NOT shut. We just can't buy or sell any cows.'
Bovine TB is recognised as a problem which devastates farm businesses and is mainly spread through close contact when cattle breathe in droplets of mucus containing Mycobacterium bovis bacteria exhaled from an infectious animal.
Badgers can carry the disease and culling has long been a part of the Government response to the crisis, despite criticism from wildlife and animal welfare campaigners, such as Queen guitarist Sir Brian May.
The Government said in June it will not be extending the badger cull and retains its commitment to end the practice before the next election.
Oxfordshire is an 'edge area' for bovine TB, meaning it is a buffer zone between high risk and low risk areas – so most herds are subject to six monthly TB tests by default.
There have been several cases in the area of Oxfordshire near to Diddly Squat Farm in recent weeks, according to ibTB, a mapping platform for the disease in England and Wales.
The every-day running of Clarkson's farm is documented in a Prime Video series, which first aired in 2021, and brings to light common problems faced by British farmers.
Clarkson has become a vocal supporter of farmers and attended a protest in London against the Government's move to introduce inheritance tax on farmland in November 2024.

Iconic TV channel axe all UK production after almost three decades as it becomes latest casualty of streaming

END OF AN ERA Iconic TV channel axe all UK production after almost three decades as it becomes latest casualty of streaming I USED to love going to my best mate's house to watch MTV when I was a kid in the Nineties because my parents were too tight to pay for extra TV channels. But youngsters now won't be able to do the same, as I'm told MTV UK is the latest casualty of social media and streaming. 4 MTV UK is the latest casualty of social media and streaming Credit: Alamy 4 Stars including Emma Willis got their big breaks in telly thanks to the station Credit: Alamy 4 Cat Deeley presenting on the beloved channel 4 Kelly Brook appearing on MTV UK Credit: Supplied My insiders said the station has been axed in all but name after bosses quietly closed the UK production arm of the channel. MTV spin doctors insist the station 'will still have a presence', but concede they will no longer be making original music content. Instead, generic US shows will be aired alongside the usual rolling music videos. Notable cancellations include original series Gonzo and Fresh Out UK. As well as being a huge blow to British music, it's also a major loss to up-and-coming presenting talent. Stars including Kelly Brook, Emma Willis and Cat Deeley all got their big breaks in telly thanks to the station. READ MORE ON MTV NO SHOW MTV AXE two huge Geordie Shore spin-offs - leaving cast fuming Greg James and Joel Dommett also hosted on the channel earlier in their careers. My source said: 'Everyone at MTV is gutted. To say there has been a bloodbath of cuts would be an understatement. 'Staff have been left in tears as some have been there for decades. "Those that are left fear more doom and gloom could be around the corner.' It comes after the EMAs — the European answer to the famous VMAs — was axed for this year in another cost- saving measure. A spokesman said: 'MTV UK is sunsetting local series Gonzo and Fresh Out UK, beginning this month. 'We are deeply grateful to our hosts Jack Saunders and Becca Dudley, the talented artists who have been a part of these series, as well as the teams who brought them to life. Watch emotional moment Ozzy Osbourne speak about amazing life with Sharon in resurfaced moment from The Osbournes as rocker tragically dies 'Fans can continue to enjoy global music shows like the MTV VMAs, STANS and Ozzy Osbourne: No Escape From Now on MTV and Paramount+, alongside digital music content on our MTV UK social channels.' I know nothing can ever stay the way it was . . . but this just makes me want to go back to the Nineties.

We're ditching the UK for Thailand – we can't wait to leave this ‘miserable' life, all we do is work to pay bills

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A UK FAMILY have set their sights on Thailand after growing tired of the British lifestyle. The Smiths cited the rising cost of living, crime, and the school system as their main motivations for ditching life in the Midlands. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 TikTok user Dale Smith explained why his family are leaving the UK for a new life in Thailand Credit: TikTok / @ Dale Smith told 1.9 million TikTok viewers about his family's upcoming move. He explained that he found a variety of factors have made the UK "not a nice place to live any more". The HGV driver and his wife Kim, 36, are moving with their children Noah, 10, and Molly, eight, in November. They said they want to break away from their monotonous routine and start a new life abroad, embracing the "beautiful scenery" and "incredible food" Thailand has to offer. "I feel like life is just flying by, you wake up on a Monday, you're fed up and you can't wait for the weekend – you're wishing the days away," Dale said. He added that the cost of living is continuing to rise while the UK streets are now "a state". Despite an increase in income following a change in work, Dale said all his extra money is "just going to bills". He compared the never-ending cycle to "banging your head against a brick wall". The couple's children are also excited for the move, eager to begin homeschooling life and leave the British school system. Dale and Kim plan to focus on English and basic maths, as subjects their children enjoy such as history, video editing, and photography. I fled the UK for sunny Dubai - life back home is miserable & no-one has any cash The TikToker added that he hopes his children will "learn new languages and learn about new cultures". He also pointed out that the "terrible" English weather is another push for the family to move abroad. "England is just a miserable place and we're just tired," he told his audience. The family plan to move across the globe with just "nothing but a bag of clothes" and use their savings to support them. They are also in the process of selling their three-bedroom home, their 2015 Ford Focus, and most of their possessions. How easy is it to move abroad? Brexit means British citizens now have to apply for visas to move to countries within the EU. While some countries residency restrictions are easier than others, here's what you need to do at home before moving: Notify HMRC about your upcoming move. Let your local authority know and provide a forwarding address. Contact your mortgage and utility providers and bank before leaving. If you have paid enough UK national insurance contributions, you can qualify for a state pension abroad - contact the International Pension Centre. You can sign up to the Royal Mail's redirection service. If you have outstanding student loans, contact the Student Loans Centre. If you have children, give due notice to childcares and schools. Dale added that he and Kim have been doing "loads" of research around visa applications, flights, and places they want to visit. He revealed that the they will travel to Bangkok for one week before moving down the coast to Hua Hin. The family will then stay at the scenic beachside district for a few months. Dale has been posting the family's journey on TikTok and YouTube, under the handle @ He described the upcoming new chapter as exciting but scary. More on living abroad Most expats surveyed claim living abroad is one of best decisions they've ever made. And the five things one British expat misses the most about life at home. Another family ditched the UK for Spain, and are loving the sun and relaxed culture. One British couple described themselves as "burnt out zombies" before moving to Bali. Another family left the UK for Cyprus and say they work half as much while still affording a home.

Tom Holland hints he would play Bond amid 007 rumours

has hinted that he would play James Bond after 007 rumours, saying: 'We'll get there one day.' The Hollywood actor and star of Spider-Man responded to speculation that he might play the world's most famous spy by saying: 'We'll get there one day.' Holland, 29, added that for 'every young British actor, it's the pinnacle of working in our industry'. The Londoner is among several actors tipped for the role of 007 following Amazon's takeover of the franchise. These include: Jacob Elordi, the Australian who starred in Euphoria and Saltburn; Aaron Pierre, star of Rebel Ridge, the 2024 American action thriller; and Harris Dickinson, who acted opposite Nicole Kidman in Babygirl, the erotic thriller. Holland admitted in a conversation with his friend, Gordon Ramsay, that he was aware there were rumours he might become Bond. When the celebrity chef asked Holland about the role on his YoutTube channel this week, the actor smiled and said: 'Listen, there's speculation at the moment. We'll keep it to a minimum for now. We will get there one day.' He was asked by Ramsay: 'Can you imagine what's going to happen to your life if you do? First of all, you'd love that opportunity, right?' Holland replied: 'Dude, I mean every young British actor, it's the pinnacle of working in our industry. I already consider myself to be the luckiest kid alive. I could never have dreamed to have the career that I have.' Dune director takes over Denis Villeneuve, the acclaimed Canadian film-maker behind the Dune franchise, will direct the new Bond film. However, the lead role is yet to be cast. The movie is being co-produced by Amy Pascal, who works closely with Holland on the Spider-Man movies. It has been reported that Amazon, which is making the 26th Bond film, wishes to cast a younger Bond for the next film. Daniel Craig, the British actor, starred in five of the spy films between 2006 and 2021, beginning with Casino Royale and ending with No Time to Die. Earlier this year it emerged that Amazon had secured creative control of the James Bond franchise, prompting fears among fans and in Hollywood that the new 007 actor would be American. However, last month Variety magazine cited sources close to the film saying that the studio and producers were interested in casting a British actor under the age of 30. Glasgow filming Meanwhile Holland is currently filming the latest Spider-Man film in the streets of Glasgow. The city centre is being redesigned in the image of New York, with US flags draped on its famous buildings, as filming gets under way for the new Marvel movie, set for release next year. The film stars Tom Holland as the titular character and Holland's girlfriend, Zendaya, as Michelle Jones 'MJ' Watson. A number of American-style vehicles have been spotted near the Scottish Event Campus, including New York Police Department-labelled cars, buses, and food vans. Filming is expected to last until the middle of August. It will be the fourth instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man franchise, and creators have said it will change the tone of the previous three movies, which were released in 2017, 2019, and 2021.
