RIYADH — Fahad bin Nafel, president of Al Hilal Football Club, announced on Tuesday he will not seek a new term, bringing an end to a record-setting six-year tenure that cemented his legacy as the most successful president in the club's history.
In a statement posted on his official X account, Bin Nafel reflected on his time at the helm, writing: 'Every journey has a final station... I hand over the leadership of this great club just as it was handed to me or even better, God willing.'
Bin Nafel expressed full support for the incoming president and emphasized his decision stems from a desire to open the door for new leadership to continue Al Hilal's progress.
'I announce today my absolute support for the next candidate for the presidency of Al Hilal,' he said.
Appointed in June 2019, Bin Nafel led Al Hilal through a golden era, securing 12 major trophies during his 2,233 days in charge, including four Saudi Pro League titles (2020, 2021, 2022, 2024), two AFC Champions League titles (2019, 2021), three King's Cups (2020, 2023, 2024), and three Saudi Super Cups (2021, 2023, 2024).
Under his leadership, the club also reached new heights on the global stage, making four appearances in the FIFA Club World Cup. Notably, in the 2022 edition hosted in Morocco, Al Hilal finished runners-up after a thrilling 5–3 final against Real Madrid.
In the latest 2025 expanded FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, Al Hilal made headlines by reaching the quarterfinals.
The team drew with both Real Madrid and Red Bull Salzburg in the group stage before defeating Pachuca to advance.
In the Round of 16, they shocked global powerhouse Manchester City with a historic win before narrowly exiting the competition against Brazil's Fluminense.
Bin Nafel closed his message by extending gratitude to Saudi Arabia's leadership. 'My sincere thanks and appreciation go to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their unprecedented support for sports and youth,' he wrote. 'With their backing, we dared to dream big and those dreams came true.'
Fahad bin Nafel's departure marks the end of a remarkable chapter in Al Hilal's storied history, one that saw the club become a symbol of Saudi football's rise on the regional and international stage.

Wirtz's Creativity Can Make Up for Alexander-Arnold Loss, Says Slot

Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure to Real Madrid has left Liverpool wanting for creativity but the signing of attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz can help offset that deficiency, the Premier League club's manager Arne Slot said. Liverpool smashed their transfer record in June to sign Wirtz and bolster their attacking options, with the German international having scored 57 goals and provided 65 assists in 197 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen. Wirtz played in a Liverpool shirt for the first time at Anfield on Monday, putting in an impressive performance in the Merseyside club's 3-2 win over Athletic Bilbao in a pre-season match. "I think there's always room for improvement in every department. Like I said, we've added a few, in my opinion, extra weapons. So, Florian (Wirtz) has a lot of creativity in the final third," Slot told reporters, according to Reuters. "We've lost with Trent (Alexander-Arnold) a lot of creativity from the back. Trent's crosses and picking out runners was so special – I think Flo has this quality as well in a totally different position. "But he brings that creativity, the pace of Hugo (Ekitike), the pace of both full-backs – Milos (Kerkez) and Jeremie (Frimpong) today." Liverpool, who won the Premier League to secure a record-equaling 20th English title, have been busy in the transfer market as they look to build on last season's success. Slot said it was crucial to strengthen the squad. "Our competitors are not sitting still," he added. "Not only they try to improve as well but they have also made a lot of signings, like we all have done. So that's why it's going to be a very interesting Premier League in the upcoming year again." Liverpool take on FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the Community Shield on August 10, before beginning their Premier League title defense against Bournemouth at Anfield on August 15.

The Riyadh club posted a photo of their captain on social media platform X with the caption: 'Salem Al-Dawsari took part in group training after completing his rehabilitation program.' Al-Dawsari scored the opener in the 22nd minute of that match and was named Man of the Match before being forced off in the 76th minute. His absence meant missing the remainder of Al Hilal's campaign, which included a historic 4-3 extra-time win over English champions Manchester City in the round of 16, followed by a narrow 2-1 quarter-final exit to Brazil's return comes at an ideal time for the Saudi national team, with just two months remaining before the AFC playoff qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
