Listen to article
Pakistan and China reaffirmed their "ironclad" friendship and all-weather strategic cooperative partnership as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir concluded a series of high-level meetings with Chinese political and military leadership in Beijing on Friday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the visit underscored the growing depth of politico-military ties between the two nations and their shared resolve to advance regional peace and stability.
During his meetings with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, discussions focused on the evolving regional and global political landscape, connectivity under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and the need for coordinated responses to shared geopolitical challenges.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over the depth of bilateral engagement and reiterated their commitment to sovereign equality, multilateral cooperation, and long-term regional stability.
The Chinese leadership lauded the Pakistan Armed Forces as "a cornerstone of resilience" and a "vital contributor to peace in South Asia."
China, Pakistan seek to deepen defence ties
On the military side, Field Marshal Asim Munir met General Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), General Chen Hui, Political Commissar of the PLA Army, and Lieutenant General Cai Zhai Jun, Chief of Staff of the PLA Army. The COAS was presented with a guard of honour at the PLA Army Headquarters, symbolizing the longstanding camaraderie between the two armed forces.
The engagements featured detailed exchanges on defence and security cooperation, including counterterrorism collaboration, joint training, defence modernisation, and enhancing institutional linkages. Emphasis was laid on improving operational interoperability and strategic coordination to counter hybrid and transnational threats.
The Chinese military leadership expressed full confidence in the strength of the bilateral defence partnership and acknowledged Pakistan's pivotal role in promoting regional peace.
Field Marshal Asim Munir appreciated China's consistent support and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to further expanding military-to-military cooperation across all domains.
Meanwhile, according to the Chinese State news agency, Vice President Han Zheng hailed China and Pakistan as "ironclad friends and all-weather strategic cooperative partners," adding that the bilateral relationship is marked by "high-level mutual trust, solidarity through challenges, and a shared future."
Han said China is willing to work with Pakistan to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, deepen the all-weather friendship, expand all-round cooperation, and accelerate building "a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era."
Field Marshal Asim Munir noted that developing friendly cooperation with China is the consensus of the entire Pakistani society. He said Pakistan supports China's three global initiatives and "firmly stands with China."
The military, Munir said, is ready to further implement the leaders' consensus and continuously deepen the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China.

Trump's remarks on stopping Pakistan-India war 'reopen old wounds' for Modi: PM Shehbaz
Listen to article Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that every time US President Donald Trump talks about stopping the Pakistan-India war, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'wounds are reopened'. "US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that we stopped the war. When the US president says that we stopped the Pakistan-India war, Modi's wounds are reopened," he said while inaugrating Pak Business Express and newly upgraded passenger facilities at the Lahore Railway Station. During his address, PM Shehbaz also paid tribute to Pakistan's Armed Forces for their resilience in the four-day conflict with India, which he described as 'short but highly dangerous.' He praised the military's technical superiority, the Air Force's internal innovations, and the Army's use of Al Fatah missiles. 'India believed Pakistan could only rely on nuclear deterrence, but conventional warfare supremacy has shattered that myth,' he said, reaffirming his commitment to the nation's security. He added that our nuclear assets are guarantors of national security, and the enemy does not dare to look at us with an evil eye. 'From a warm welcome to well-mannered receptionists, renovated CIP lounges, upgraded passenger waiting rooms, and a fully refurbished train with modern European-style dining and sleeper berths, the change is truly gratifying,' he said. The PM hailed the digitisation of the ticketing system, the introduction of Wi-Fi facilities, and the outsourcing of services to improve efficiency and professionalism. "These services are for the common masses, not just a privileged class. This is a step towards turning railways into a best-in-class transportation system for both passengers and cargo freight," he added. PM Shehbaz commended the Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, the Railways secretary, and chairman for their efforts, while also acknowledging the previous contributions of former minister Saad Rafique, highlighting his "16 months of dedicated service" to the Railways department. He further stressed the need for punctuality and transparent outsourcing of railway land and services, aiming to turn these assets into profitable ventures for the nation. He also underscored the importance of continuing the transformation of Pakistan Railways across the country, from Peshawar to Karachi, Rohri, and Quetta. He also revealed that the Railways had earned Rs93 billion, installed escalators for differently-abled passengers, and improved cleanliness and punctuality across stations. Profit-taking grips bourse, KSE-100 drops over 1,400 points
After initial buying momentum, profit-taking gripped the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), causing the benchmark KSE-100 to settle with a loss of over 1,400 points on Tuesday. The market kicked off trading on a positive note, pushing the KSE-100 Index to an intra-day high of 140,331.01. However, profit-taking was observed in the final hours of trading, dragging the benchmark to an intra-day low of 137,636.37. At close, the benchmark index settled at 137,964.81 level, a decrease of 1,415.24 points or 1.02%. In a key development, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb left for his second visit to the United States in two weeks to finalise a trade deal with Washington, his office said late on Monday. The trip comes after Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Friday that the U.S. and Pakistan were 'very close' to a trade deal that could come within days. 'A final discussion on the Pakistan-US trade dialogue will take place during the visit,' the finance ministry said in a statement, adding that a trade agreement will benefit both countries. On Monday, PSX saw modest upward momentum, fueled by investor interest in cement and technology stocks ahead of the monetary policy announcement and key corporate earnings. The benchmark KSE-100 Index gained 172.77 points, or 0.12%, to close at 139,380.06 points Internationally, Asia shares eased on Tuesday while the euro nursed its losses as investors pondered the downside of the US-EU trade deal and the reality that punishing tariffs were here to stay, with unwelcome implications for growth and inflation. The initial relief over Europe's 15% levy quickly soured when set against the 1% to 2% that stood before President Donald Trump took office. Leaders in France and Germany lamented the outcome as a drag on growth, pulling down stocks and bond yields across the continent while slugging the single currency. Trump also flagged a 'world tariff' rate of 15% to 20% on all trading partners that were not negotiating a deal, among the highest rates since the Great Depression of the 1930s. A further risk to world growth came from a sudden spike in oil prices after Trump threatened a new deadline of 10 or 12 days for Russia to make progress toward ending the war in Ukraine or face tougher sanctions on oil exports. The air of caution saw MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan slip 0.7%. Japan's Nikkei eased 0.8% while Chinese blue chips fell 0.1%. This is an intra-day update
