Its outer casing feels solid, with easy access to connectors, which is in line with most modern PSUs. However, where things get interesting is the internal design, specifically with the cooling solution.
Be quiet! Has opted for the inclusion of a 140mm Pure Wings 3 fan for cooling on the Power Zone 2 750w. Known for their near-silent running capacity, the Pure Wings 3 fans are designed specifically to create more air pressure and cool the PSU faster. I was a bit skeptical of the system when first reading about it; however, after testing it, I have to confess, I'm quite impressed. The system can, in essence, run without active cooling for everyday productivity and some gaming.
This is achieved thanks to the more rugged and higher quality capacitors and power converters that have been specially adjusted to accommodate higher temperature thresholds. It might sound like sales jargon at first read, but in testing, I found the semi-passive operations of the Power Zone 2 to be quite impressive.
Thanks to the variable speed motor on the Pure Fans 3, even when under load, the PSU only spins that fan up to the necessary RPM settings needed to cool the unit. This allows for greater control of power efficiency and longevity out of the cooling system. It's a smart engineering feat that has been implemented exceptionally well.
