BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood reflects on 'exhausting' project 'couldn't do it'
Back in 2015, BBC Breakfast fans were delighted to witness Carol Kirkwood join the cast for Strictly Come Dancing. The 63-year-old partnered with professional dancer Pasha Kovalev, with the pair departing the contest in week seven.
Now, a decade following her stint on Strictly, the BBC presenter has reflected on her time on the dance floor during a chat with Gary Davies on Radio Two.
When questioned if she maintains contact with the other celebrities who participated the same year she competed, Carol disclosed she does, particularly with Jeremy Vine.
She added: "I remember Jeremy and I were standing in what was called Claudia's Tower looking down, and Helen George, who was also in that year, was doing the most beautiful, elegant Waltz.
"I turned to him and said, 'Jeremy, we might as well just enjoy the short time we're going to have on this show,' and we did!"
Nevertheless, the BBC presenter admitted it was challenging balancing dancing on Strictly whilst continuing weather forecasts for Breakfast each morning, reports the Express.
She continued: "When you look back on it, you think, 'I can't believe I did that'. It was joyous, it was really hard work because I was working Monday to Friday, doing Breakfast at the time.
"So I was exhausted doing it, but Pasha Kovalev, my partner, is a gent as well and a really, really nice man."
Carol disclosed that during rehearsals, she'd confuse her left and right legs with Pasha, making light of the circumstances.
The 63-year-old shared: "He'd make me laugh, sometimes I'd say, 'Pasha, I can't do this, I haven't got this' and he'd say, 'Oh don't worry, you'll get it tomorrow'. Just chilled!"
When questioned about her dancing prowess, Carol quickly dismissed the notion, jesting that she was akin to a 'cart horse'.
At present, Strictly enthusiasts are on tenterhooks, keen to discover which celebs will be gracing the dance floor this year.
Whilst the official lineup is still under wraps, speculation is rife online, with Dani Dyer, Stacey Solomon, Ashley Cain, and Paul Brunson being touted as potential contestants.
However, fans will need to exercise a bit more patience for the official line-up, anticipated to be unveiled in the upcoming weeks.
Strictly Come Dancing is set to return this Autumn on BBC One, with BBC Breakfast available for viewing on BBC iPlayer.

Jobson added that while Harry's mother, the late Princess Diana, also authorised a tell-all autobiography about her time in the royal family, she did not make any profit from the memoir. He said: "She didn't monetise it for herself. He made a fortune out of it." In Spare, Harry mentioned Queen Camilla on more than 60 occasions, often branding her as "the Other Woman". He also accused the Queen of being "dangerous" and leaking negative stories to the press, allegedly "sacrificing him on her personal PR altar". He also pondered whether she would become his and William's "wicked stepmother" before her marriage to Charles, as they continued to grieve the loss of their mother. Prince Harry also referenced his brother Prince William on several occasions, detailing instances throughout their childhood and their ongoing rift. He even made claims that the brothers had a physical altercation. In his bombshell interview with the BBC back in May, Harry said that "some members of my family will never forgive me" for writing his memoir. But he added: "It would be nice to have that reconciliation part now. If they don't want that, that's entirely up to them." Royal expert Jennie Bond also believes that it will be difficult for Princess Anne to forgive Prince Harry if the peace talks come to fruition, given his 'extreme disloyalty' to the Firm since he quit royal life and relocated to California. Bond told the Mirror: 'To Anne, loyalty is paramount, and I suspect she feels that Harry has been extremely disloyal to his father, his brother and the monarchy. She might well find that hard to forgive.'

Antiques Roadshow expert Hilary Kay met a guest whose father worked on the Titanic and survived the sinking of the vessel Antiques Roadshow's Hilary Kay had an eye-opening encounter with guests whose father, Sidney Daniels, was employed as a plate washer on the Titanic at the age of just 18. Sidney was one of the survivors of the tragic sinking and his offspring brought along a letter he penned to the beloved BBC programme. Recalling the fateful night, his daughter stated: "It was a Sunday, he was sound asleep, there was a banging and shouting and it was the night watchman. They were all a bit bleary-eyed because at first they thought it was a drill. "It wasn't until he got up on deck, there were hardly any people around at first and then officers came and turned to him and said, 'Go to these cabins'." She then explained how Sidney had been tasked with waking sleeping guests on the ship, as she went on: "Of course it was hard to wake people, they were asleep. Some reacted in different ways. One or two said 'What does this young man know? He's 18, the boat is unsinkable, we're not going up on deck'. "Others were saying, 'We've got children, they're going to get a chill if they go up on deck'. So he helped the children with the lifejackets and ushered them up on deck." Hilary chimed in on the episode which was re-aired on Sunday night: "You can imagine the scene of chaos and despair because people realised there weren't enough lifeboats." Sidney's son replied: "That was his job, to try and get people into the lifeboats and the water was rising all of the time. When all the lifeboats had gone, the water was up around his knees and he thought, 'It's time to go'. "So he dived off the side of the boat, swam away from it, came to a lifebelt and to my Dad's mind, it was too close to the boat, he was afraid when the boat went down, the suction would take them down so he said to this chap, 'It's no good here, let's swim away'. "Apparently this chap followed him and they just kept swimming. He said he saw a star in the sky which he thought was his mother and swam towards this star and eventually came to this life raft which was upside down and managed to cling onto that." "When he was on there, he said, 'I'm tired, I want to go to sleep,' and the chap next to him said, 'Don't go to sleep lad, if you do, it will be your last'. "So they sat there singing hymns trying to pass the time away." The duo had brought along a letter which had remained tucked inside Sidney's uniform pocket when he leapt from the Titanic, the Express reports. Hillary, clearly stunned by the letter, began to speak about the artefact's significance and value: "It's an extraordinary item and anything related to Titanic has this extraordinary effect on people. It is an extraordinary moment to behold something which is so linked into an extraordinary moment in history." She estimated its worth, saying: "We're talking about around £10,000, is the realistic value."

BBC Strictly major shakeup as two new stars confirmed for 2025
Two fresh faces are joining the BBC Strictly pro cast this year as new pictures show this year's lineup heading to rehearsals. The countdown to the next series of BBC Strictly Come Dancing is now well and truly on, with the pro dancers being confirmed for series 23. After much speculation over the past week about who will hit the famous dance floor in the autumn, rumours were circulating about the latest round of celebrities set to take part, and which pros will return. New dancers were being tipped for the next season, including So You Think You Can Dance star Alexis Warr and Australia's Dancing With The Stars season three's Julian Caillon, and now it's been confirmed by BBC bosses they are part of the 2025 line-up. An official announcement on Instagram reads: 'Please welcome our two new Strictly Professional Dancers! Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon join the Strictly Come Dancing family when the series returns this autumn on #iPlayer." As the news was revealed, the new pros were spotted heading to BBC rehearsal studios in London alongside the likes of fan favourites Gorka Marquez, Nancy Xu, Kai Widdington, Nadiya Bychkov and last year's winner, Dianne Buswell. Co-star Neil Jones was quick to reply to the official announcement online as he sent well wishes to his new colleagues. He said: "Oh @julian_caillon it was going so well until you said Chelsea FC but anyway. Welcome to the fam and @alexis_warr it's a pleasure to welcome another redhead see you both in rehearsals." Nancy Xu added: "Welcome to the family can't wait to start it!!!!! @alexis_warr @julian_caillon. And Luba Mushtuk said: "Congratulations @alexis_warr @julian_caillon. Exciting times ahead!!!!! Looking forward to meeting you both very soon." Gorka soon chimed in as he said: "Welcome to the team guys! @alexis_warr @julian_caillon." Karen Hauer added: "Welcome to strictly!! @alexis_warr @julian_caillon." Also pictured making their way to rehearsal studios were Michelle Tsiakkas, Lauren Oakley, Amy Dowden, and Johannes Radebe. As the dancers got back to work, Amy revealed on Sunday night that she was feeling "grateful" to be returning for her ninth year on the BBC dance-floor. The Welsh star was forced to withdraw early during last year's series due to an injury following a gruelling cancer battle in 2023. Amy, 34, underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy after receiving her breast cancer diagnosis in 2023. In a post to her 705k followers on Instagram, Amy said: "Feeling grateful, grounded, and SO excited for @bbcstrictly rehearsals to start tomorrow. "Year 9 – let's go!" The show is set to get into swing in September and rumoured celebrities set to take part include Stacey Solomon, Paul C Brunson, Dani Dyer, Ashley Cain, and Angellica Bell.
