10 funniest, saddest and most unhinged Reddit college football fan expectations
Every year, fans enter the season with high expectations, and most of the time, they find themselves disappointed. But those expectations aren't always sky-high. Some of us out here are simply asking for the bare minimum.
While the Georgias and Ohio States of the world have a national championship-or-bust mentality every year, most fanbases just want a product that doesn't entirely embarrass them. Unfortunately, that's often too much to ask.
In a recent thread posted on Reddit, college football fans were asked for their season-long expectations for their teams, and answers ranged from delusional to pathetically low. Here are some of the funniest season-long expectations, according to r/CFB.
1. This Florida State fan is too embarrassed to say
FSU is coming off a stunningly bad 2-10 season that featured just one FBS win, a five-point victory over Cal. Florida State hopes to bounce back this fall, but the fanbase is obviously pretty wary.
2. Washington State fan preaches to the choir
The Cougs lost coach Jake Dickert, offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and quarterback John Mateer after an 11-win season last fall. But frankly, the vast majority of college football fanbases probably share this sentiment.
3. A Virginia Tech fan down bad
Hey, Hokies, if it makes you feel better: Your 2025 season expectations are (roughly) the same as Alabama's!
4. Mississippi State fan just wants to get back to .500
You know, a late-December trip to Memphis doesn't sound all that bad, does it?
5. This Florida fan would take either extreme
Billy Napier shored up his position with a late run last season, but this Gators fan would be happy to see either a CFP-caliber team or Napier's head on the chopping block.

6. LSU fan thinks it's put up or shut up time for Brian Kelly
Given the fact that his three predecessors each won national titles, the clock is ticking in Year 4 for Brian Kelly, and even a "birth" in the playoff may not be enough to satisfy this Tigers fan.

What has Luke Fickell done to this once-proud fanbase?
8. Penn State fan thinks it's time for a title game appearance
The Nittany Lions are a clear national championship contender entering the season, and it seems anything short of at least reaching the CFP title game would be a disappointment for a program that has struggled to get over the hump.
9. Iowa fan flying too close to the Sun
Look, to be fair, South Dakota State transfer Mark Gronowski gives Iowa potentially its best quarterback in years, so this one isn't entirely irrational. But ask yourself, dear reader, are you willing to bank on a successful offense on a team coached by Kirk Ferentz?
10. Michigan still lives rent-free in this Ohio State fan's head after a national title
Ohio State won its first national title under Ryan Day, but the Michigan loss still clearly bothers this fan quite a bit.

Detroit Lions injury report: Taylor Decker off PUP, Dan Skipper dealing with ankle injury
Taylor Decker practiced Sunday for the first time this training camp but the Detroit Lions still are shorthanded on the offensive line. The Lions activated Decker off the physically unable to perform list Sunday. The Lions also are dealing with injuries in their secondary, where Campbell said cornerback Terrion Arnold will miss time with the hamstring injury he suffered last week. Arnold pulled up grabbing his hamstring in the Lions' intrasquad scrimmage and sat out the preseason opener along with the rest of the team's starters. Backup cornerback Khalil Dorsey remains on the physically unable to perform list recovering from the broken leg he suffered last season and starters D.J. Reed and Amik Robertson have missed time with injuries this summer. Campbell said Arnold could return mid-week. "It's not a major hamstring," he said. "This is a low-grade but we're trying to be smart with it." Tight end Kenny Yeboah also will miss Sunday's practice for personal reasons. Sleep on Austin Bashi\u00a0at your own risk after UFC on ESPN 71
LAS VEGAS – Austin Bashi met the media Saturday after his first-round submission win over John Yannis at UFC on ESPN 71. Yannis (9-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) stepped in on short notice to take on the highly touted Bashi (14-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and was a big underdog at the UFC Apex. Bashi showed why when he got his first UFC win with a standing rear-naked choke with about 90 seconds left in the opening round. Bashi was supposed to fight Francis Marshall for his sophomore UFC outing until Marshall pulled out not long before the event. The 23-year-old Michigan-based featherweight said all he cared about was making sure he stayed on the card – and didn't care who the opponent was going to be. Bashi was a heavy favorite when he came through and earned a contract on DWCS this past September. He then was expected to make a splash in his official UFC debut when he took on Christian Rodriguez in January. But as a 3-1 favorite, Bashi dropped a decision for the first loss of his MMA career. He said that experience helped set him up for Saturday's win – and what he wants to happen going forward. 'After that last fight, I saw who my true supporters were, and I saw who was sleeping on me – and there were a bunch of people sleeping on me,' Bashi said at his post-fight news conference. 'This was to prove something to myself – not really to the world, but to prove something to myself how hungry I am and how bad I really want it.' James Franklin predicts historic season for Penn State running back duo
Following the 2024 college football season, which saw Penn State reach the semifinal of the College Football Playoff, there were some questions as to which of Penn State's dynamic running back duo would return. Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen each could have explored other options, be it the NFL or a potential transfer destination to no longer share the backfield. But then a funny thing happened. Both running backs decided to run it back in Happy Valley in 2025. There was much rejoicing, especially from head coach James Franklin. "I thought one of those guys would decide to declare for the NFL and the other one would come back," Franklin said during his Big Ten football media day press conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday afternoon. He was not alone in thinking one of the two would be playing football somewhere else this fall. It may still be surprising for many to see Singleton and Allen each suiting up in the blue and white once again. Singleton and Allen each rushed for 1,000 yards last season (Allen rushed for a team-high 1,108 yards and Singleton rushed for 1,099 yards) during Penn State's playoff run. Even with the benefit of playing in a total of 16 games last season (12 regular season games, the Big Ten championship game, and three College Football Playoff games), Penn State received terrific production from its top two running backs, who have embraced playing together as a cohesive combo since their arrival as standout freshmen. Being able to bring both back for another season is nothing to overlook, especially behind Penn State's beefy offensive line. "[When] you talk about taking some of that production, we've got two great running backs," Franklin said during Big Ten media day. "You know as well as anybody Penn State from a historical standpoint at the running back position, been a ton of really good players. It's amazing to me that both Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen have a chance to be the all-time leading rushers in Penn State history, 1 and 2, and they've been sharing carries their entire career." When the 2025 season kicks off for Penn State (Aug. 30 vs. Nevada), Singleton will already be Penn State's 10th all-time leading rusher with 2,912 career rushing yards. Right behind him on the list is Allen with 2,877 career rushing yards. Penn State has seven players in program history who have rushed for at least 3,000 career yards. It could take just one game for that number to increase. And yes, the top spots on the all-time list are attainable for Singleton and Allen. Evan Royster is Penn State's all-time leading rusher with 3,932 yards. Saquon Barkley is second on the list with 3,843 career rushing yards. Will Allen and Singleton be the new kings of the Penn State rushing record book by the end of the season? It is entirely possible and would be a remarkable feat.
