Meteorologist Carol Kirkwood addressed a common misconception about her appearance on BBC Breakfast, following a discussion about potentially stepping back from her duties
BBC Breakfast 's weather presenter Carol Kirkwood has revealed she has no help with her on-screen wardrobe choices, contrary to what viewers might assume. The 63-year-old was seemingly taken aback by the assumption of her having a stylist, and humorously described her fashion decisions as her "own mistakes".

During an appearance on BBC Radio 2 's Tracks Of My Years, host Gary Davies said: "You just look like summer has arrived, every single morning, you do and that's why I think we all love you."

Curious about her outfit choices, he then asked: "How do you decide what to wear every day, is this all you or do you have a team?".

Carol responded with a chuckle: "You're having a laugh, a team to sort out my outfits?
"No, it's all me and often it's what's ironed, what's washed and what's clean, 'Lovely, that'll do', because it's not a fashion show for me.

"I don't want to be what you talk about rather than the weather, because my job is the weather and it's an important message, so, nobody helps me, they're all my own mistakes."
Carol also expressed her affection for her role and colleagues, both on and off-camera, adding: "We've known each other for donkeys years, so it's real friendship that you're witnessing."
Since joining the BBC Breakfast crew in 1997, Carol has become the programme's longest-standing current presenter.

Her expertise in meteorology has been recognised with multiple accolades, including a TRIC award for best TV Weather Presenter in 2003, 2008, 2009, and consecutively from 2012 to 2017.
The meteorologist has also received Royal recognition from Princess Anne.

In November 2015, she was reportedly honoured with an Honorary Fellowship by the Princess Royal for her "contributions to broadcasting" at Inverness College.
That same year, viewers got to see a different side to her when she competed on Strictly Come Dancing, with former show professional Pasha Kovalev.
During the competition, she was praised for efforts, though finished in 10th place.

Meanwhile, Carol recently made it clear that she has no intention of retiring any time soon.
When asked about the possibility of stepping back, she told Radio Times Magazine: "Don't say that; you'll get me sacked! And I love my job; I can't imagine not doing it.
"There will be a day, obviously, when that happens, but for now I still love the weather. Each day is different, you know?
"We're an island, and the weather changes all the time, so it's always interesting."
BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.

BBC Radio 2 announces huge schedule shake-up as Ozzy Osbourne honoured

BBC Radio 2 has made a huge change in honour of Ozzy Osbourne and listeners can tune in on Friday night from 11pm to hear the stations tribute to the Black Sabbath rocker BBC Radio 2 has made a huge change in honour of Ozzy Osbourne. The Black Sabbath rocker died earlier this week at the age of 76 after battling numerous health issues and now the flagship radio station has decided that Shaun Keaveny's Radio 2 Rock Show on Friday at 11pm will be entirely devoted to the Prince of Darkness himself. ‌ Some of the icon's best known work includes Paranoid, Iron Man and Changes, and the programme will spend its night time slot looking back at some of those classics. ‌ What's more, the special will also take a look at Ozzy's solo career, which, after years of success with Black Sabbath, began in 1980 with the single Crazy Train and saw him right through to 2022, when he released what became his final album Patient Number 9. ‌ Listeners will also be able to hear Ozzy's very own choice of Rock God which he recorded for Johnnie Walker's very first Radio 2 Rock Show back in June 2018, and excerpts from interviews with the man himself chosen from the archives. Listeners can tune in from 11pm, and the show will also be made available on BBC Sounds. ‌ Ozzy died just days after he had performed his farewell gig at Villa Park in his hometown of Birmingham. News of Ozzy's death broke on Wednesday evening, and it came after a number of health woes for the legendary music star. The family statement announcing his death read: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love." We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis." The family message was preceded by a location stamp, that read: "Birmingham, England July 22, 2025" - revealing that Ozzy made it back home for one last time. He is survived by his wife Sharon and their children Jack, Aimee, Kelly as well as Jessica, Louis and Elliott from his first marriage. ‌ Taking to Instagram hours after his broadcast, BBC Radio 1 DJ Jack Saunders said of his idol's passing: "As I was on air tonight, the news broke that we had lost one of the greatest showman the world of metal and music has ever seen. The bands and artists that dare to fly the flag in the name of rock n roll do so because Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath did first. He was a blessing to music. Rest In Peace the Prince Of Darkness." Sharon responded: "Jack thank you for your tribute to Ozzy tonight, bless you." Meanwhile, Sir Elton John, a close friend of Sharon and Ozzy, also shared a moving tribute. ‌ Rocket Man hitmaker Sir Elton John shared a picture of himself and Ozzy, and wrote: "So sad to hear the news of @ozzyosbourne passing away. He was a dear friend and a huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods - a true legend. He was also one of the funniest people I've ever met. I will miss him dearly. To Sharon and the family, I send my condolences and love." An air ambulance landed close to Ozzy's Buckinghamshire mansion at around 10:30am on Tuesday, and medics spent hours attempting to revive the Black Sabbath musician. A local resident said they became alarmed after noticing the helicopter in the quiet village and saw it landing close to Ozzy and Sharon's mansion. They told the MailOnline: "All of us were talking about it and wondering what had happened. We immediately feared it may be for him as he was known to be in fragile health. When we heard later that night that he had died it confirmed our worst fears." A spokesperson for Thames Valley Air Ambulance said: "We can confirm that our helicopter was dispatched to provide advanced critical care at an incident near Chalfont St Giles yesterday." The chopper took off from RAF Benson in Oxfordshire and arrived after just 15 minutes. The red aircraft is used to treat patients requiring the most critical care. Today, Ozzy's sister told the Mirror how she was glad he was able to die in England, after he had been yearning to return home, having spent two decades in Los Angeles.

Carol Kirkwood, 63, confesses there is 'no such thing as a perfect romance' after revealing her plans to retire and travel Europe with her husband Steve Randall, 49

has confessed there is 'no such thing as a perfect romance' after revealing she plans to retire in two years and her and travel Europe with her husband Steve Randall. The BBC weather veteran, 63, married police officer Steve, 49, in December 2023 - nine years after her divorce from property developer Jimmy Kirkwood. And now she has admitted that she thinks there is no such thing as the 'perfect romance' as she opened up about her divorce to the Daily Mirror. She told the publication: 'I feel sad when relationships break down. I was married before, and we got divorced, and it's always sad when that happens. 'But, of course, there isn't such a thing, I don't think, as the perfect romance - where you're never going to fall out or have cross words. Of course you are, that's life.' Carol and Steve - who have a 13-year age gap - got hitched in an 'intimate' wedding ceremony in Buckinghamshire in December 2023. Her comment comes after she revealed she hopes to retire in as little as two years so she can drive off into the sunset with her policeman husband. The TV star has been a fixture at the BBC for 27 years but has said she is planning a change of scene for her and Steve when she turns 65. Discussing her retirement hopes, Carol, who is also a published author, said: 'We fell in love with Majorca, which is where we went so I could research my fifth novel, Meet Me at Sunset, about a woman running away from a shattered love affair. 'Steve and I plan to escape and travel for some time when we retire, perhaps in a year or two. 'We'll travel in a camper van or get in the car, cross over to France and then just drive.' Carol, from Morar, Lochaber, was married to property developer Jimmy but the pair split in 2008 after 18 years of marriage, with the divorce finalised in 2012. She recently made a cheeky comment when asked about her second marriage, telling one newspaper: 'Love is lovelier the second time around. No disrespect to my first husband, but this is better.' Carol, who was on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015, began her career at the BBC as a secretary before cross training with the Met Office and joining BBC News in 1998. She appears regularly across all of BBC Weather's output on both radio and TV and is the main weather presenter on BBC Breakfast. The TV star also spoke about the age gap in her relationship, stating it makes no difference to her. She told Saga Magazine: 'Steve is 50 this year. Other people's opinions about an age gap don't matter - I don't feel he is younger than me.' She also said she believes that meeting him was fate. She said: 'We were at a function neither of us wanted to go to. It was a Sliding Doors moment - if I hadn't gone, we would never have met.' Discussing her relationship in another interview, she said: 'Love is lovelier the second time around. 'The wedding was the most perfect day. Storm Gerrit was raging outside and we didn't even notice. 'It was about us getting married rather than having a big, fancy wedding. We had no guests and wrote our own vows. 'When you are older, you know more what you want.'

'Exceptional' new ITV crime drama is a must-watch and now available to stream free

Under the Bridge, which premiered on Hulu in April, is now available to watch for free on ITVX and has been airing on ITV1. A new TV drama has just landed on UK streaming platforms for free, and it's essential viewing for true crime enthusiasts. The programme has been hailed as "phenomenal" as it appears to be a must-watch for those looking for their next binge. ‌ Under the Bridge, which debuted on Hulu back in April earlier this year, has now arrived on ITVX and is also currently airing on ITV 1. The eight-episode series is based on the book of the same name, penned by the late journalist Rebecca Godfrey. ‌ The programme explores the devastating true story of Reena Virk, who was brutally murdered in 1997 after attending a party, with seven teenage girls and one boy connected to Reena's killing. ‌ Under the Bridge tells the tale through the viewpoints of Rebecca, portrayed by Riley Keough, and police constable Cam Bentland, brought to life by Lily Gladstone, reports the Mirror. The show has attracted numerous glowing reviews online, with viewers particularly praising the stellar performances from the Under the Bridge cast. ‌ One fan shared their enthusiasm online, writing: "I have to say I am surprised this show has negative reviews, I thought it was phenomenal and one of the only tv shows I have given a 10/10. I have trouble focusing watching new shows and I sat through this like a hawk." Another viewer remarked: "Incredible show. Binged it all at once. Javon plays Warren impeccably. He really pulled me into the show with his portrayal of Warren G," whilst a third noted: "VERY emotionally wrenching and sociopolitically absorbing. Phenomenonal cast and music." Someone else commented: "Under the Bridge is an exceptional limited series that tells its story with remarkable impartiality, giving depth to both the victims and the perpetrators." ‌ Another viewer described it as "painfully hard to watch" but acknowledged that viewers will feel "compelled to finish" the series, which boasts "outstanding" performances and screenplay. The official synopsis for Under the Bridge reads: "Under the Bridge is based on acclaimed author Rebecca Godfrey's book about the 1997 true story of fourteen-year-old Reena Virk (Vritika Gupta) who went to join friends at a party and never returned home. ‌ "Through the eyes of Godfrey (Riley Keough) and a local police officer (Lily Gladstone), the series takes us into the hidden world of the young girls accused of the murder - revealing startling truths about the unlikely killer." Meanwhile, another good spot on ITV and another crime thriller series has been hailed for its "riveting" acting. TV critics have been unable to pull themselves away from the programme, which many say is "addictive". ‌ Starring in the lead role in Code of Silence is Strictly Come Dancing star Rose Ayling-Ellis as Alison Brooks, a deaf civilian who is drafted in to assist a major police investigation; with all their hopes pinned on her ability to help aid their search. "Alison Brooks' lipreading skills pull her into the police's investigation of a dangerous gang, but her undeniable connection with criminal Liam Barlow threatens everything," the official synopsis reads. The series, which is now available on ITV and aired on the channel in May, has been given a perfect score of 100% by critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Although some feedback is mixed, it appears the one thing in common is that everyone could agree they couldn't stop watching.
